What causes blood and protein in urine?

Kidney Stone Symptoms
My Dr. has already ruled out kidney stones from CT scan and any type of infection from a urine culture. Other symptoms include visibly seen blood after urinating, flank pain, pelvic pain (right side) and nausea. Also at the same time I was also diagnosed with Bronchitis. My dr. doesn’t feel that the bronchitis is realated to the urine issue. Are there any other tests I should ask for? What else could cause this?
Also, I’m a 25 yr old female, with no history of frequent UTI’s or stones. The only pre-exhisting condition I have endometriosis.

First of all, there are lots of things that can cause this and most or not a big deal and don’t require treatment. Having said that, there are some serious things that can cause it also and they should be ruled out.
To find the cause of hematuria (Blood in urine), or to rule out certain causes, the doctor may order a series of tests, including urinalysis, blood tests, kidney imaging studies, and cystoscopic examination.
Urinalysis is the examination of urine for various cells and chemicals. In addition to finding RBCs, the doctor may find white blood cells that signal a urinary tract infection or casts, which are groups of cells molded together in the shape of the kidneys’ tiny filtering tubes, that signal kidney disease. Excessive protein in the urine also signals kidney disease.
Blood tests may reveal kidney disease if the blood contains high levels of wastes that the kidneys are supposed to remove.
Kidney imaging studies include ultrasound, computerized tomography (CT) scan, or intravenous pyelogram (IVP). An IVP is an x ray of the urinary tract. Imaging studies may reveal a tumor, a kidney or bladder stone, an enlarged prostate, or other blockage to the normal flow of urine.
A cystoscope can be used to take pictures of the inside of the bladder. It has a tiny camera at the end of a thin tube, which is inserted through the urethra. A cystoscope may provide a better view of a tumor or bladder stone than can be seen in an IVP.
Here are also several diseases and disorders that can drive the protien counts high in the urine – research them on the net and see if any of them fit your circumstances.
Amyloidosis
Bacterial pyelonephritis
Bladder tumor
Congestive heart problems (inadequately perfusing the kidneys)
Diabetic nephropathy
Glomerulonephritis
Goodpasture’s syndrome
Heavy metal poisoning
Lupus erythematosus
Malignant hypertension
Multiple myeloma
Nephrotic syndrome
Nephrotoxic drug therapy
Polycystic kidney disease
Acute nephritic syndrome
Complicated UTI (pyelonephritis)
Hemolytic-uremic syndrome (HUS)
Interstitial nephritis
Medullary cystic disease
Membranoproliferative GN I
Membranoproliferative GN II
Membranous nephropathy
Necrotizing vasculitis
Post-streptococcal GN
Rapidly progressive (crescentic) glomerulonephritis
Reflux nephropathy
Renal vein thrombosis

Hello,
Im sorry to hear about your condition. I know you had mentioned you had endometriosis, and with that it is difficult to become pregnant.. But If there is any chance … have a pregnancy test.. ectopic pregnancy can cause slight to heavy bleeding, pain on one side.. and a general feeling of being unwell…also you may think youre not pregnant due to bleeding…pregnancy tests can also read negative..so its best to have a blood test..HCG..COUNT.. Also…you may want to double check rectal bleeding…you may have hemmrroids…and constipation…causing pain and bleeding..Are you taking any type of aspirin or aspirin product..? If so this may cause thinner blood and much easier bruising and bleeding… Sometimes Stones are not readily apparent on a cat scan… you may want to ask for further evaluation with an Ultra sound or MRI.. Also..blood work is extremely helpful..You may want to ask for a CBC.. Which is a complete blood count..and Kidney function tests..such as BUN…CREAT.. Kidneys act as a washing machine and they should not allow protien thru there filtering system..protien is too large…check your urnine for protien..last but not least….Be in touch with your gynecologist…for a pap smear…and vaginal check..It is a possiblity you may have an irritated cyst…or other tissue that bleeds out when urinating…Well I know this answer is long..but I hope it helps you…and I wish you all the best with your health now and in the future…Carrie…aka care4meallways@yahoo.com One more thing .. If youre taking any medication..check the side effects…some medications change the color of urine…good luck

Friend, your all of the sypmtoms are explained by endometriosis, except protein loss in urine, but you should mention the level of protein, if you have 1+ or 2+ than no need to worry.

Yeah, I had a similar result. Have you taken a creatinine clearance test, or blood tests to test for an autoimmune disease? Your protein output will be better accounted for through a 24-hr collection.
Since you have bronchitis (an upper respiratory infection), you should make sure you’re checked for IgA Nephropathy. It is often first diagnosed/flares after a respiratory infection. Basically, it’s when your immunoglobins stick to your kidneys, which can cause their function to decline over time.
I don’t mean to scare you. It could just be strenuous exercise. Kidney disease affects 1/9 Americans, so more people should be aware of it!
Hope this helps! Good luck!
