A few months ago I had A kidney stone show up in an annual sonogram. The stone was not obstructing anything so I have not had any pain or symptoms. It was about 5 to 7 millimeters. I have only one kidney so my doctors wanted me to have the shock therapy which I did exactly two weeks ago with a stent. I have been straining and not seen any stone fragments passing. The stent was removed three days ago and I had an x-ray. The stone was split in three fragments.

How long should it take for this stone to finally pass?

I was diagnosed with two kidney stones, 9mm and 1mm. The doctor went in with a scope to remove the larger one which was embedded. A stent was placed to keep the tubes open. A week later they took the stent out and to see if there were any more stones and they finished by putting a larger stent in. Five days later I went back to the doctor and they numbed me and took out the stent. Two hours afterwards I was in extreme agony and couldn’t urinate. I called the doctor and he said I was probably having spasms of the urethra and the bladder. By the end of the day, I went up to the ER because of extreme pain. They gave me fluids and pain medicine though it didn’t help the pain. I stayed two nights in the hospital and I was feeling somewhat better and they sent me home. For two days I took things easy, the pain was minimal. On the third day in the morning I passed a large blood clot, which I literally had to pull out because it was stuck. And the severe pain returned. Now I am also vomitting. I called my doctor and he told me to drink plenty of fluids and your either going to get better or worse and that was it. What should I do, I’m even considering going to a differant and better hospital two hours away.

It was in the upper 1/3 rd of the right ureter. It was crushed under GA using urethrogenic laser lithotripsy. A stent had been placed between the rt kidney and the bladder. Even after 1 week, I feel urge for frequent urination and bladder does not empty completely it seems. Doctor said that was because of the stent. Can a qualified urologist give an advice on this condition please.

I am a 23 year old female with 2 kids I went to the hospital early friday morning after being woke up at 1 20 am with crazy pain in my side back and tummy. I knew it was my kidneys cause I had a problem with them when I was pregnant with my daughter, however when I was preg with my daughter they could not do anything about them cause I was preg and after I delivered I had no issues so all was forgotten well after my daughter I have had one more child since and no issues untill now. I went to the ER and they did a CT scan and found 3 small and 1 12mm stone in my left kidney and a small stone in my right. However the large stone in my left kidney was stuck at the bottom of my kidney and causing damage to my kidney as I could not pass urine. They did the laser stone removal an placed a stent in that surgery was finished at midnight friday leading into sat, they sent me home saterday afternoon, and told me the blood in my urine would be less and less over the next day and would start to be orange coloured instead of bright red well it is not bright red anymore it is dark red and they did not send me home with any pain killers and asprin or anything else are just taking the edge off. I have to go see the Urologist on wen afternoon but I am not sure if I should go to a clinic or try to get into my doc tomorrow or even go back to the hospital before that, it just still seems like alot of blood. anyone have any advice or had this themselves????

Yesterday my brother had lithotripsy with a stent placed. He was told to remove the stent himself on Wednesday. Is that a common practice-to have the patient remove his own stent? His Urologist is 1.5 hrs from his home, so I’m thinking that’s why. I’ve just never heard of that and I’m afraid from him. Does anyone know anything about this practice?

I have a 7mm stone that might pass. Tried lipotripsey but didn’t work. I have a stent in me now. I hope this thing will release when the stent gets taken out. When this boulder hits my bladder, will it hurt to pee it?

I just had lithotripsy and a double j stent was placed. I had very bad kidney reflux so I was taken to the ER last night to have a foley catheter in. That was very painful. I just woke up at 3 am and have a real urge to pee. I am not sure if I am supposed to somehow just let the urine leak out, or if I can actually push urine out like you would normally when you take a pee. My right kidney is hurting pretty bad so i am drinking water, which makes me want to go more, but I just want to know if I can push?I don’t know if having this catheter is really a better choice then dealing with the intense kidney reflux/pain when urinating. thanks.

In april I was diagnosed with kidney stones. I had left side pain on and off for a year. In that month it got worse and I had to go to the ER. I had to go through lithotripsy to get it to pass. A few weeks later I was put back into the hospital after having a fever for a week and actually in the hospital it reached 103. They said it was a infection from the stent. Since the surgery my left kidney has been pain free. Now my right side has been having the same problem, just not as bad to where I have to go to the ER. I got xrays and an IVP done recently and they told me I had small stones but they are not big enough to be causing pain. They said it is probably my actual back from lifting at work. I know its not from work bcuz I hadn’t worked in 3 days and I woke up that morning of my appt. and the pain was there. Plus it doesn’t feel like a muscle it feels internal. My question is, if its not my right kidney, what other internal organs would cause right side back pain?

Couple of weeks ago, he prescribed me another 2 weeks worth of meds to try and make it easier for my kidney stones to exit the kidneys. I’m still cramping, though not as bad as I was at one point. I’m just really anxious about the whole thing. He said if these meds don’t work that he will want to put a stent in both ureters ( I think ) to help the larger stones pass.
What should I expect with that procedure? I’ve read a few things here and there online but I would prefer to hear from people who have gone through this.
He was also considering lithotripsy at one point too. Do they sedate you for either procedure? Hospital stay? Normally, I’m not so spastic about these things but the very thought of any type of surgery upsets me.

What is the normal time limit to deal with a stone? It seems to me I’ve been getting the run around and the doctors are playing the "lets bill the insurance as much as we can" routine. I have had the stone for 3 months. Last month the doctor put a stent in, and scheduled me for a lot of appointments throughout the month which seemed very unnecessary (how’s your pain? ok you can go, see you on [date]). So now after an entire month of attending the appointments I’ve now been scheduled for lithotripsy.

The stone has been suck in my ureter since the beginning, and it is too large to even think about passing (nearly 10mm). The pain at this point is severe and unbearable (painkillers don’t work). However, the doctor shrugs it off and says its from the stent (since my culture showed no infection and the xray showed the stent in place). I can barely function and am missing classes one right after the other from hurting so much.

It’s currently November 5 and the "scheduled" lithotripsy is November 17 at this point I’ll be lucky to make it that long. I requested numerous times that the doctor just "take it out", but he refused to do so as he thought lithotripsy was the best option.

Is it normal to have to wait so long for this procedure, or have I been given the run around because I’m a teenager far from home with no parent to stick up for me?

Thanks to all those who reply!

Last Friday I had the shockwave treatment for a 6mm kidney stone. Was still in pain the following Wednesday so I went back in and there was a 3-4mm stone stuck in my urterer. They decided to do a procedure to go up thru my bladder to grab the stone then they put in a stent. I was told to remove the stent on my own on Friday (Today) Everything went fine. Didn’t have any pain with the removal and now that I’m sitting up for the day the pain in my kidney is back….BAD! Could this just be because the stent was in for a few days so everything is irritated. I took some oxycodone about 10 minutes ago to help with the pain. It feels like I still have a kidney stone. Has anyone else experienced the pain after the stent was removed? I feel like I want to put heat or ice on it but I’m not sure which one would help most. Please any advice would be greatly appreciated.

A couple weeks ago I found out that I had a kidney stone, and since then I have been missing lots of school. I was constantly in a lot of pain from the kidney stone, and I was gone Friday because I had it removed and they put a stent in, which is causing me even more excruciating pain. It’s been barely 2 months since school has started and I have already missed 7 days of school. I’ll be missing tomorrow and I’m sure I won’t be in school a lot this week, plus I might miss more days next week when I get the stent removed. I am falling behind in my classes and have an incredible amount of work to catch up on. It is overwhelming me so much and most of my teachers haven’t even given me my makeup work yet, and some of them are making me feel rushed with everything. A friend of mine told me about the 504 plan, and I was wondering if I could qualify for that so that missing so much school wouldn’t interfere with my grades & that I would have enough time to make up everything. Do you think I will be able to qualify for the 504 plan? Also, would having a 504 plan prevent me from getting into really good colleges?

And once it was removed they put a stent in. I have been having kidney pains for three days. They gave me vikoden and I take 3 at a time and it doesn’t take the pain away. But if I’m sleeping or laying down comfortable the pain tends to go away. Is this pain normal? I’m really scared somethings wrong.

It is called Ureteroscopic stone removal. It is to remove kidney stones. They go in through the urethra and pull out the stone and then they put a stent in place. I am looking for someone else who has had this done.

i am needing to have a lithotripsy performed for a kidney stone and my urologist wants to leave a stent in for about a week after the procedure. i have finals coming up around this time and need to know, for anyone who has been through this, how much did it affect your ability to go out? will i be able to focus on my tests? i’m pretty good at handling pain/discomfort.

About 1 1/2 year ago, I had surgery for a kidney stone removal and they placed a stent which I removed one week later at the doctor’s office.

Since that day, I have had a slight discomfort while urinating. I feel no pain when I urinate, but I feel like it takes a longer than usual time for me to start urinating. Sometimes I stand in front of the toilet, try to start urinating, and have to wait about 3-4 seconds before I actually start urinating.

I have been like this ever since I had my stent removed. Is this normal or should I check myself out in case it could be something else?

my bf has had kidney stones a number of times, but only twice since I’ve known him, which is all within the last year. Back in June, he had an attack on a friday afternoon and I spent most of the evening in the ER with him. He was suppose to take his youngest son and ex gf to the airport the next morning, but if he didnt pass it before then, he was going to have me take them and i didnt like her. so he kept drinking and peeing and finally passed it at like 2 in the morning. he said it hurt bad when it came out, compared to some of his other stones, he yelled! I was pretty horny that night and after he passed it and got into bed to get a few hours of sleep, I kept him up and we have sex instead. he got his stone analyzed and they told him it was a calcium stone. it was the size of a dried pea, which i guess explains how painful it was. afterwards he went in for some tests where put that scope or w/e it is up his weiner and he ended up with a stent being put in. so we didnt have sex for awhile after that. not much longer, I found out that I was pregnant which means i got pregnant after he passed that stone. so with a new baby on the way, he was saying he wanted to record the birth of our baby when the times comes. we argued about it a lot, so i suggested that if he’s going to record me giving birth, then i should record him passing a kidney stone. to my surprise, he agreed to it. he said he’d like to have a clip of him standing over the pot peeing out a stone. so on sunday, he had another stone and i recorded it on via my cell phone camera like he wanted to. i captured his face and then just focused on down both as he peed. its basically a video of a man standing over the toilet, holding his penis with his foreskin pulled back and peeing. a small stone pops out into the strainer. thats it. also, my gf said that having a baby with an older man, such as my bf and add in the stone problems, will be bad for the baby. his other kids seem healthy.
