The cops were deployed to my address for complaints from neighbors about a load car that comes and goes from my house, which is my friend. Well it just so happens to be the same address that my brother lives at and he has a warrant, which in my eyes the court looks upon differently. He’s a drug addict, and his charges all stems from drugs. Well they sent him to a rehab facility, and considering he has a kidney disease which produces multiple kidney stones a year; its a little hard for him to remain in the program without opiates. The court sentenced him to 1 year at a rehab facility, well hes been in the program for 3 years because of his periodic stones, btw they’ve show up in CT and MRI scans so he wasn’t faking it. I just think they should send him to a facility that specializes in these type of ordeals. To help him break the addiction while still being able to take his medicine, because once your addicted it’s hard to take them as prescribed. Well i guess i got a little off topic it’s just a frustrating ordeal to handle. Anway I’d like to know if you can actually get in trouble for that. He’s my friend and I’d be damned if aanynes going to stop him from coming over I don’t care what time it is.

Hello, I have been having a TREMENDOUS pain on my left side for 3 weeks now. I do not have insurance so i tried to avoid going to the doctor and since I passed 2 kidney stones back in 98, I figured this one is kidney stones as well (similar pain and locations). I could not bare the pain anymore and headed to a cheap doctor who knew less than I do about kidney stones and simply prescribed me the medicine I recommended to him…What a joke. Anyway, thanks to the internet, i told the doctor to give me flomax and he did. My pain would go away during the day a few days before i started my medication and it would come back at night and early morning, VERY BAD. Ever since i started to take the flomax, I have no kidney stone pain or symptoms. What the heck? While it feels amazing, at the same time it scares me. What is it going on guys? Any ideas?

Doctor also gave me pain medication (oxycodone) and I took only one 3 days ago (the day i got it).

Do you think flomax relaxed my ureter and the stone is no longer pressuring and urine is passing through and that is why it is not hurting anymore? I definitely havent passed the stone..
I will go get ultrasound done sometime soon, but I am just curious what is going on. If any doctors on this site have any ideas and would like to share them. Flomax took the pain away.. hmm…
I am feeling 100% normal, I have no symptoms of anything. I was advised to take the medication for a couple weeks or three and then go get ultrasound to find out the size of the stone. I am assuming this is a stone because it feels like it did last time. What else could be? PLEASE do not tell me to go to doctor and leave at that. I am very well aware of it and I have and I will again if nothing changes.

We live in Hawaii. My husband was seen at the ER August 14th because he couldnt urinate or pass bowels. They did bloodwork on him & gave him pain meds, was going to send him home. When I inquired about the cause, he told us that "if you want, I can send you to the other ER & they can do a CT scan, but you’re going to have to wait long time".

At the 2nd ER, the dr examined my husbands penis & balls. He told us all the bloodwork came back normal & was about to send us home. I insisted that we came there for a CT scan. SO, they finally gave him a CT scan & found a kidney stone & a what appears to be a rectal mass. The dr & nurse explained that sometimes stuff shows up on a CT scan that isnt actually there so he could have cancer, but it could be nothing,& make sure he follows up w/his regular dr & see a specialist. After we informed the dr that my husband didnt have a regular dr established, he recommended us to a dr, who we thought was going to be a specialist. When we called to get an appointment, we discovered that it was an internal medicine dr & to see him, we would have to change our PCP to that dr who is 25 miles away from us. So since that dr wasnt a specialist, we opted to see a PCP that is closer to us, so that whenever my husband needed to see the PCP, it was close (we have QUEST HMSA medical insurance & no cash since my husband is out of work).

We went to Waianae Coast Comprehensive Center & seen DR. LIAO. Worst experience EVER. We could barely understand anything he said when he asked us what ER we went to & what he was seeing my husband for, told my husband he had to lotion & lose weight, then without looking at his paperwork from the ER that I gave him, he left the room. Then the nurse came in & told us to come back in a month for recheck. When I asked the nurse why in one month, she said for recheck. I told her the dr didnt look at his paperwork & explained my husband was in alot of pain & needed to see the specialist right away. She asked me what type of insurance we had & when I told her Quest, she made a face and told me thats why we had to wait a long time. SO naturally my voice raised when I insisted they refer my husband to a specialist immediately & thats when the dr started yelling at us from another examining room to go see another Dr if you dont like it!

We then had to find another PCP. He referred us out to a specialist. We drove there & my husband said that the specialist came in & told my husband that our dr referred him to the wrong specialist, & wrote down information for the urologist. He did not even look at the image of the CT scan or examine my husband. 3 days later, my husband passed a BM with lots of bright red blood. I took him to his Dr & he immediately send us to the emergency room (another different one, not the 1st 2 that we went to). At the emergency room, they gave him pain medication, took a urine sample, & informed us that there was nothing about a rectal mass in my husbands record from the ER. They gave him instructions to follow up w/his PCP & the urologist for his kidney stones and did not examine him or get a sample of his stool. When I asked about what we should do about the rectal mass, they said I dont know. Its weird and confusing because it doesnt say anything about a rectal mass in his report. BUT HE HAS BLOOD IN HIS STOOL! We were then told it could just be from a hemmoroid. Physically & emotionally exhausted & defeated, we went home.

We went back to my husbands PCP the next morning & explained everything that happened w/the specialist & the ER, & the Dr shook his head & then told us to follow up w/the urologist & see if the urologist. When I asked about the rectal mass, they said the urologist can help us because shes a urologist.

I called the ER that told us about the rectal mass & explained everything and they said they cant discuss anything over the phone, but EVERYTHING should be in the report. They wouldnt let me talk to the dr because they said that he couldnt discuss patient info over the phone. They wouldnt tell me his schedule either. I called our medical insurance & they told me to follow up w/the PCP or change PCPs or get a 2nd opinion. We did but because the possible rectal mass is not noted in the report, no one has examined him.

My husbands TDI is pending & no savings. I need to complete a 3 wk class in order to get assistance. BUT I have no cash, bus pass, or gas or family to help. I called the welfare worker & explained our situation & she said there is no way around it, I have to comply w/the class 1st. So I have no childcare & no $ or transportation. We used the pay from my husbands last check to pay our rent & put gas in the car. Now its gone. My phones going to get turned off soon along w/my internet. So then, I wont even be able to call or email!

I dont know what to do about anything. Any positive, educational answers would be greatly appreciated. Please no personal rude comments. I have enough

Hey I’m on a health insurance plan where tier 1 medicine tier 2 and tier 3 costs different. Is potassium citrate(the medicine used to prevent kidney stones) tier 1 , 2 or 3?

I’ve only had morphine once when regular pain killers wouldn’t handle it as I was passing a kidney stone. And it was definately the most powerful pain killer I had ever experienced.

But morphine has been around a long time and does have it’s draw backs. Has modern medicine come up with something better that does not carry as many risks?

I am currently on kidney stone #5 in 3 years..this one has been there for 1 1/2 weeks. My brother doesn’t believe me that it hurts so bad. He says him having mono for a week is way worse than my kidney stone! Haha! Are kidney stones worse for women or men? Is it fair to compare it to being kicked in the balls during that sharp stabbing pain with stones? No guy I know has had one to ask.

I try to compare it as the worst cramps you’ve ever had, plus being stabbed and kicked all at the same time, and STILL doesn’t do it justice!

Also, I keep reading many false things on here. One person said that when you have lithotripsy they put you in a tub of water and shock it out…it has nothing to do with water and they knock you completely out. Stints are something the doctor must put in AND take out, you can’t do it on your own! You should always try to catch the stone, and coffee filters work fine. And no, peeing into that strainer is not the most annoying part of a stone! Sheesh!
I’ve had many kidney stones before so I know what they are (mine are calcium).

It’s good to know that there is at least a medicine out there..I’ll have to ask about it the next time I’m in!

This is a question for the ladies. I was noticing a foul smell so I went to the doctor’s to take a urine test. She prescribed me with medicine before the results came back but I just called today and they said everything was normal. What happens if you take uti medicine with no uti? And any ideas as to what the smell might be if everything is normal?

I was diagnosed with two kidney stones, 9mm and 1mm. The doctor went in with a scope to remove the larger one which was embedded. A stent was placed to keep the tubes open. A week later they took the stent out and to see if there were any more stones and they finished by putting a larger stent in. Five days later I went back to the doctor and they numbed me and took out the stent. Two hours afterwards I was in extreme agony and couldn’t urinate. I called the doctor and he said I was probably having spasms of the urethra and the bladder. By the end of the day, I went up to the ER because of extreme pain. They gave me fluids and pain medicine though it didn’t help the pain. I stayed two nights in the hospital and I was feeling somewhat better and they sent me home. For two days I took things easy, the pain was minimal. On the third day in the morning I passed a large blood clot, which I literally had to pull out because it was stuck. And the severe pain returned. Now I am also vomitting. I called my doctor and he told me to drink plenty of fluids and your either going to get better or worse and that was it. What should I do, I’m even considering going to a differant and better hospital two hours away.

My friend in Europe was told by her doctor to take medicine for urinary tract infection and, when I look at this medicine description in English, I see it is contraindicated during pregnancy. Doctor has tried to scare her into taking the medicine, saying such infection could very possibly go to her kidneys and cause terrible troubles. But if a medicine is worse than the disease, what can be done?!

Please, if anyone knows effective and safe treatment for this ailment during pregnancy, do share! Thank you.

I was in the ER 12 days ago and the stone was high in the ureter, now it has moved all the way down to the urethra and it is attempting to get out or is stuck, I dont know. What I do know is the pain is almost unbearable and I am taking a strong narcotic along with a medicine for nausea. I have seen a urologist, but I have no health insurance so we are trying to manage with pain meds and lots of water, the alternative is surgery, a huge hospital bill and physician bill. I just dont know how much longer i can take this pain…does anyone have ANY suggestions, or is surgery my only alternative at this point?

My one year old poodle has kidney stones. The operation costs 00, but since the Vet is a friend of mine, he is charging me 00. Even so, I cannot afford the operation. My parents say they are thinking of putting her to sleep. This whole situation is very depressing. The Vet gave me some medicine to ease the uncomfortableness but otherwise, I don’t know what to do. Any suggestions?

My husband is on Social Security Disability for a refractory seizure disorder. He receives free medical care and medicine through the Cherokee Nation (he is a Cherokee citizen). He is on the hospital portion of Medicare. He receives better care through the Cherokee Nation (example: ,000 lithotripsy all paid for through the Cherokee Nation, among lots of other things) than he ever did when he was under my private insurance which costs 0 a month addition to cover just him.

Will this new health care reform (if it passes) affect him in any way? Will he be required to purchase insurance? (My point is this would be counterproductive since he already receives free medical care anyway.)

I have been straining my urine for about 3 weeks now and have not found any stones. There were small pieces of bloody tissue…i assume from the stone moving. Is that normal and when should i pass this stone, Like i said it has moved what feels like as far as it can without coming out. the pain comes and goes throughout the day but it is just dull pain. When i try to pee i get a really sharp pain, it takes my breath away and makes me want to scream. I have tried everything. drinking lots of water but it doesn’t seem to be helping.
I woke up yesterday morning and the pain was so bad i could not walk. My boyfriend took me to the hospital and they did a CT scan. As far as they can tell I have a kidney stone lodged where my uiter enters my bladder. I have been advised to wait it out…I am going next week for a second opinion. I don’t see how the Doctors expect me to be able to work with this pain. They did give me pain medicine but as she was writing the prescription she said " this is going to get alot worse before it gets better" Ill keep you posted thanks for the help.

I have been having problems with kidney ,UTI and bladder infections for a couple of months. I took medicine and they still came back and I was still having problems urinating. This past saturday I had to go to the emergency room because I had the worst pain in my right side. The doctors told me that I had a Kidney stone. I have been taking the pain meds perscribed since saturday morning.Today is the first day that I have not taken them. So how long do you think it takes for them to move? Because I have not really felt much pain since I left the hospital.

Or have you ever felt like you were having one? I just felt like I had one like 20 minutes ago! I’m on this medicine for anxiety and it makes me lose my appetite… so I took the medicine but you’re not supposed to take it if you haven’t eaten anything and I did, so I got CRAZY spins, (lightheaded), and vomited three times. I broke out into a sweat and my stomach hurt more than any period cramp or for guys, kidney stones? My dad told me to EAT something so I got a loaf of bread and devoured the whole thing, and it’s like all my symptoms went away! I feel so good again like I just got revived from hell!! I FEEL SO GOOD. Experiences?? I would love to hear them!

Hi,

I have a problem and I don’t know what it’s called or if anyone else has had this problem. The reason I don’t know what it is, is cause the Dr’s. pretty much gave up on me. It started 10yrs ago. First, I have a kidney disease called Medullary sponge kidney. Lots of stones and lots of lithotripsy’s. But that’s not the problem. I started getting severe cramping that led to diarrhea on a daily basis. In 1 month I lost 20lbs. The second month, I lost another 20lbs. The doctors sent me to a gastrointestinal doctor, where he tried to do a colonoscopy. That didn’t go very well. While awake he tried to pump 10 lbs of air into me. I could only handle 1lbs. Why? Cause I was screaming to make him stop. By the time I had got to that doctor, I was going in everyday for IV’s. For re-hydration. Water wouldn’t even stay in me. I would take Imodium3 to 4x a day on a regular basis just to go to pick my son up from school. And even when I would drink water the cramping was so severe that my insides felt like they were bruised. It would take up to 3 days later to feel less bruised. Finally the gastrointestinal doctor sent me to the pain clinic. They put me on 5mg of oxycodone 4x’s a day. And finally I was able to eat and drink anything I wanted. The problem is: I’ve been on pain meds since that day. And when I’ve tried to go off of them, the intense, severe, cramping and bruising comes back. There is no pain like it. I rather have a kidney stone then to have even 1 episode of whatever this is. I’ve gained weight. Lots of it. And I know all I have to do is stop the pain meds and I’ll lose weight. But it’s not worth it. There is nothing in this world worth that pain. I have had to stay in motels because of traveling issues. Cramping in the middle of nowhere, ruining my vacations, missing important dates, everything. And if taking pain meds help keep it at bay, then so be it. But I want to know what it is. And the only way I can get another Dr. to do tests is to go off the medicine and have it start all over again. That’s why I’m hoping someone out there can give me a clue as to what it might be. I don’t think I ever seen blood in my stools except from going so often and being raw. A long time ago, I seen a study that was done where they were talking about the difference between IBS and another disease and the IBS didn’t fit what was happening but the other one said pain meds will stop it. Unfortunately, I can’t find that article any longer. And my new Dr. doesn’t understand why I don’t want to go off of pain meds. So I need help as soon as possible. If he takes me off the pain meds, I would rather die then go through that pain again. I need some information to show him that this is real. The pain Dr. that I had, left the state and is no longer taking care of me. And this new Dr. is anti-pain medicine. Even if it helps. Please please help. I’m running out of time. Oh and I had test done to see if there was an infection or some kind of bug that was causing this and all test came back negative. There is actually a worm that gets into your intestines that can cause problems and they even checked for that. That too came back negative. Thank goodness!!

I really hope someone out there can help me?

Thank you,
Andrea K.

Well, it all started two days ago. I woke up with severe pain in my abdomen, right below my ribs and, like, in my rib cage. As the day progressed, the pain continued to get worse and spread to my lower abdomen. The pain got so bad I couldn’t move, I couldn’t be touched, my so stomach was rock hard, I mean, the bed I was on couldn’t be touched without it making me miserable. I saw a doctor who immediately ruled out pregnancy and appendix, for the time being. She said that since most of the pain was in the lower left side. I was given a medication for cramping, sent home and told if the medicine didn’t help, to go to the ER. The medication didn’t help, but Immodium did. Yesterday, I didn’t feel any pain in my stomach, I did however, have very severe flu-like symptoms, returned to the doctor, no flu, given antibiotics and that’s it. Now, my stomach is beginning to hurt again, centralized in my lower left-hand side, randomly shooting straight across my stomach to the right side. As of right now, it’s very dull but I have a feeling it’s gonna get worse. Should I be concerned about my appendix or kidney stones? I’m out of guesses and don’t really want to go to the hospital if it can be avoided.

About a week ago i used a new shaving cream and shaved in my vaginal area prob a little more then i should have. the next day, my lubia became swollen and sore/itcy and it hurt really bad to pee. The swelling went down after about 5 days. however i still experience the pain when i pee!! its like a burning sensation. Yesterday i noticed i started to get some unusual discharge that constantly continued to flow out. it is white and chunky and has barely a smell to it at all. Im thinking maybe its a yeast infection?!? i dunno…..im still a virgin. i do masturbate tho but i haven’t done that in a while.I have never been to the gynecologist before. i am scared to and im embarrassed to tell my mom about it. I heard that if it is a yeast infection it needs to be treated. so im wondering should i buy an over the counter medicine? I dont want this to get worse damage any part of my body, or cause kidney stones. That would be a disaster. I have had kidney problems in my past. reflux disease was what it was called, i had it when i was 9 now im 20. Help…..what should i do and how soon?

I became an avid believer of proper medical care for years. But later on I have seen how alternative medicine has save people going to the cutting board on too many occasions. For example, supplements can prevent many diseases and even cancer. Most Kidney stones, on the other hand, can be treated by simply drinking a cup of pickle juice everyday. Even pets when my dogs puppies contracted Parvo everyone told me to take them to the vet. I was told the cost would be over 7,000 for Parvo care treatement. The list goes on and on.

I’m only 24 and I’ve had 4 kidney stones. My 1st was March 2004, and my 2nd was November 2008. My 3rd and 4th stones were at the same time in my right kidney, accompanied by a massive infection, because the stones were blocking proper passage of fluids through my right kidney. That was in December of 2009. I haven’t had a kidney stone since, thank God. For people who have this same problem, how are you dealing with this? Did you change your diet? Do you take any supplements? I’m not interested in medicine; I don’t trust Big Pharma. I still have pain pills and anti-nausea pills because I refused to take them. I’m more interested in the all natural route.

I did make changes to my diet. I drink primarily water, no soda, I drink cranberry-grape juice every once in a while, I don’t eat salty foods or put any added salt on my food, etc… I can’t take a multivitamin/multimineral supplement because mineral calicum contributes to kidney stone formation.

So, what do you do to help this condition?

Thanks!! :)

We have been battling with the blood in urine for about a month now and we were told to take her back to the er last tuesday per dr on call because she had a fever with the blood in urine. I didnt think it was related but anyways we get there and they think its a UTI which it wasnt (urine cultures confirmed it) and this time the blood was worse. So we went to the nephrologist again today and I took a sample of the bloody urine since she dosent do it all the time. And she looks at it and said there was def blood (which you could see) and she said there were calcium crystals. The last visit she had blood we could only see with a microscope and some crystals so they sent it off for a calcium level check and it came back elevated. Well this time she seen quite a few of them and then she also had to pee for them today which contained no blood at all but contained crystals but they could not tell what kind they were. So they are sending it for another calcium check that we will know tom what it is.They are also referring her to urologist as well. Should I be concerned with the calcium crystals being in her urine now? Moms day out said she complained of her belly hurting a few times today and she will also leak on her self. Should I be worried? I heard the build up of the crystals could cause kidney stones. We have changed her diet and they are holding off on putting her on medicine because she is only 3.
Thanks. She said sending her to a urologist was not a bad idea so she was gonna refer her to one to see if they had any other input and to check her bladder. I wish I could put a picture up on here. Some people think Im crazy when I tell them her urine has looked like red kool aid before but its the truth.

She didn’t sound all that concerned. What should I do now? Also found out that I have an upper hernia?? It is not an outer one. She didn’t mention surgery. Will the gall stones and hernia cause problems? She is sending me for a diabetic blood test, last time my sugar was up. Some of my family are diabetic.
All of this because I was having trouble with acid reflux!! My stomach has been swelling often and hurting. The medicine was not doing any good. Am I falling apart?? Help! Tell me something to make me feel better.

I’m 35 weeks with my 4th pregnancy and have been dealing with kidney stones. It never got really bad until last night. I felt pain around my left kidney. I was told that I had a cyst on that kidney at one time. The pain was so bad, I couldn’t sleep. I have been prescribed pain medicine for it, but it only worked for about 2 hours and I can only take it every 6 hours. I just kept drinking water and emptying my bladder. I started to feel better at about 2 a.m., but still have some discomfort in my back and a constant sharp stinging pain in my urethra. I still haven’t had any stones come out yet. I was just wondering if the pain and irritation from all this got really bad, could it cause me to go into labor?
I just went to my OB wednesday(Sept 30th).
Some added info that might make a difference: I just peed out a stone that was about 1/16 of an inch in diameter. It hurt bad!
