Hello, I have been having a TREMENDOUS pain on my left side for 3 weeks now. I do not have insurance so i tried to avoid going to the doctor and since I passed 2 kidney stones back in 98, I figured this one is kidney stones as well (similar pain and locations). I could not bare the pain anymore and headed to a cheap doctor who knew less than I do about kidney stones and simply prescribed me the medicine I recommended to him…What a joke. Anyway, thanks to the internet, i told the doctor to give me flomax and he did. My pain would go away during the day a few days before i started my medication and it would come back at night and early morning, VERY BAD. Ever since i started to take the flomax, I have no kidney stone pain or symptoms. What the heck? While it feels amazing, at the same time it scares me. What is it going on guys? Any ideas?

Doctor also gave me pain medication (oxycodone) and I took only one 3 days ago (the day i got it).

Do you think flomax relaxed my ureter and the stone is no longer pressuring and urine is passing through and that is why it is not hurting anymore? I definitely havent passed the stone..
I will go get ultrasound done sometime soon, but I am just curious what is going on. If any doctors on this site have any ideas and would like to share them. Flomax took the pain away.. hmm…
I am feeling 100% normal, I have no symptoms of anything. I was advised to take the medication for a couple weeks or three and then go get ultrasound to find out the size of the stone. I am assuming this is a stone because it feels like it did last time. What else could be? PLEASE do not tell me to go to doctor and leave at that. I am very well aware of it and I have and I will again if nothing changes.

We have a 9 year old Schnauzer, Pepper, who weighs around 10kg (22 lbs). She has been in good health with a good diet and exercise. We think. My family and I have owned many dogs in my life, but I have never had a Schnauzer.

A few months ago after a long walk we noticed a reddish color in her urine at the end of her walk. We were concerned so we took her to a vet, but they couldn’t figure out why. We both thought not enough water in her diet to flush her system. We didn’t see the problem again for a while. Two weeks ago, at the end of her walk, we noticed the reddish color in her urine again. Considering the late hour, we waited until the next morning to take her to the vet. The vet took an ultrasound and found something curious. Then took an X-ray and found that there were crystals in her urine and she has a stone in her bladder. Apparently the stone is rubbing the bladder at the end of her walk causing her to bleed.

So the vet suggested to change Pepper’s food to Royal Canine Urinary S/O to help with the crystals and to try to dissolve the stone. Makes sense. The vet also prescribed her a medicine to give to her twice a day that we thought was something to help dissolve the stone. In a few days she was incredibly thirsty and developed a potbelly. Her mood didn’t change so much other than she just seemed really full all the time, but she still did eat her breakfast and dinner. But the amount of water she was drinking and the potbelly were very concerning. There was also a more panting than usual on a cool Fall afternoon.

A week later at our scheduled check-up. The doctor did another ultrasound and found the stone hadn’t changed. We had him run a blood test to check for heart-worm and any thing else that could be an issue. We found out the the vet had prescribed her steroids to make her thirsty to help flush out the crystals and to try to dissolve the stone. (Note: In Korea, vets are not allowed to disclose the type or name of the medication given to animals in fear of possible future issues on prescribed medication.) So we don’t know and can’t find out what kind of steroid exactly she was given. We also found that the steroid had reacted in a way that gave her the symptoms of Cushing’s disease. Scary. The doctor told us, if she does have Cushing’s disease, then she may only have a few months to live. Devastating.

The vet decided to take her off the steroids and then prescribed another medication to help with her kidney damage from the steroids. What? Not understanding how this seemingly healthy dog with a little blood in her urine could have a few months to live, I started hounding the internet. Trying to find information about steroids, crystals, Schnauzers, holistic diets…everything. The day after the vet visit, Pepper was in good spirits. Happy, playing and interested in our movements. After her dinner, she was still acting the same, until around midnight she projectile vomited. A lot. Mostly water but still a mess. Then the same again this morning.

Our concern now is that the steroid treatment could have brought on symptoms and a possibility of Cushing’s disease, which I do understand is deadly. And a lot more common in Schnauzers. Or the steroids have made her so thirsty that she is over-hydrated. Steroid withdraws and over-hydration can cause vomiting. Right? Other than the excessive water drinking, which is slowing down, and her potbelly, she is acting normal. She is excited to see us when we come home. She was excited and playful when I took her out for a walk. She still does her job, barking, when she hears strange noises outside. Now she is napping and her breathing seems normal. No longer panting like a week ago.

The non-disclosing of the medication and the reasons for the treatment give me great concern. And also make me question the intentions of the vet. For years, I have taken my dogs to the VCA and other hospitals, the amount of information they give to you to monitor your pet on medication is fantastic. Here, if you call another vet they will not question another vets treatment in consideration of their fellow vets. The only paper you walk out with is the receipt from the cash register. Concerning and curious.

Personally I don’t agree with the vet on prescribing the steroid treatment to make her thirsty. Upon more negative findings about steroid use in dogs, if we had known or were allowed to know, I would have never given the steroids to my dog. It is hard to know what to do next. My idea is to monitor her water intake so she isn’t over-hydrating to try to reduce her potbelly. Feed her a little at a time so she doesn’t fill her stomach to much and then end up vomiting. And start her on a good holistic diet to try to break down the stone naturally along with the Royal Canine or Hill’s urinary food.

What are your thoughts on what has happened and what we should be doing?

I have a genetic kidney stone disease, but I am on medication and haven’t had problems for the past 4 years. Can this disease exclude me at all? I’m trying to figure out what to do with my life so if I can’t do it then i need to just cross it out from my mind.

For almost 3 weeks now, I’ve been having the symptoms of a really bad kidney infection. But testing my urine, nothing came up. I’ve been in and out of the doctors almost every day. There’s horrible pain in my lower back on both the right side, and left side. Just normally, they feel about the same, but when the doctors push on my kidneys, the right side is almost unbearable, and the left side is a bit more tolerable. They’ve tried using antibiotics, but only the very strong IV medication has helped, and only for two days. When I have to go to the bathroom, my pelvic area cramps up and I need to go right then. When actually going, I cramp up even worse. It’s take a few minutes to actually start going to the bathroom, so I sit there all cramped. My lower back pain hurts a lot worse in the morning, and feels a bit better as the days goes on. I’ve puked twice now, and I’m always either freezing cold, or boiling. I’ve gotten an ultra sound, but nothing showed up. There’s not blockage, no stones, nothing that looks alarming to the doctors. I’m bruising very easily, and cuts are healing very, very slowly. I don’t have the urge to eat, and I’m constantly tired, even after having a nice 10 hour nights sleep. At night when the pain in my back is keeping me awake, I get a very bad headache and my whole face feels really cold. Then when I put on a sweatshirt I get really hot and start to sweat. I have white blood cells in my urine, but no blood and no bacteria for a UTI. The doctors are coming up with nothing, and I refuse to take Vicodin anymore. Does anyone know what it could be? If I have something to suggest to the doctors, maybe they can go off that and go into more tests to try and figure out what’s going on. Thank you for any help.

Over the last 2 years I have been diagnosed four times with Kidney stones (Calcium). I’m a 42 year old male who is about 40 pounds overweight. I also have a condition called episodic ataxia and am currently taking the drug acetazolamide. I was hospitalized every time b/c I was unable to pass the stones on my own. Either they were too big or they were stuck.

This last trip to the ER my urine tested positive for renal insufficency. I need to get to the bottom of this. The medication I take for the ataxia has a side affect of kidney stones. According to my neurologist I need to go off the meds to stop the stones. According to my urologist, its not the cause of the stones.

Please offer any suggestions. thanks

I found out on Monday that I have kidney stones. For the past 3 days, I have been in overwhelming pain in my right kidney, and since last night, there has been a lot of blood in my urine. I am unsure of whether or not there’s a large stone to pass or just a bunch of little ones because ever since Monday I have passed a lot of little stones that are about the size of grains of sand, but nothing bigger. I also am not taking any pain medication because I got sick off of the Vicodin they gave me.

My question is this: How long will it take me to pass the stone(s), and how will I know I am done for sure? I am just terrified I will go into labor before I get through this, as I am already 37 weeks today.

Please and thanks for all your input =]

Wednesday February 9th late at night I started to feel bad back pain. I went to bed thinking it was just back pain nothing else.

* I had not done anything to my back.
* I had not lifted anything to heavy.
* I had not fallen at all
* I had not been hit at all

Thursday February 10th I woke up early morning in alot of back pain. So much back pain that:

1.) I couldnt put any pressure on my back (meaning i couldnt put my back against anything)

2.) I could not stand up straight at all (I am so bent over and cannot stand straight at all I look like a question mark or the hunch back)

3.) The pain is horrible 10 or higher! Its from my butt to my neck. Most of the pain is lower back!

4.) I was getting sick from the pain (sick as in throwing up, when I move or even when laying still)

5.) The only thing I could keep down was toast.

6.) Nothing can touch my back a tiny bit of pressure makes the pain worse!

7.) I can hardly walk due to the pain in my back and the fact im bent so much

8.) I cannot do anything on my own do to all the pain and being bent so far.

I started calling my doctors about help due to everything heres the info that they have said and tests they ran and test results:

1.) Hospital ran a pee test saying my symptoms seemed like kidney stones.
—Answer came back I do not have kidney stone, but I do have small amounts of blood in my urine (not on period)

2.) Hosptial ran a xray to make sure of kidney stones
— Answer xray came out negative for kidney stones
—- Released from hospital with medication for a possible infection.

3.) Seen my normal doctor she ran a pee test, and checked me out.
—Answer Pee test came out with just small amounts of blood in my urine.
— Answer checking me out she said she thought I had some type of infection taking over my body so she gave me pain medications to cure my infection.
**** Pain medication did not help > actually made me really sick.

4.) Seen a sports care doctor (aka back doctor) They said they could tell I was not in good shape and said it was probably just a musle spasum. But said it was obvious I am not well. They did a xray of my spine.
—- Answer, xray showed my l4 & l5 lumbar are fused together
**** Doctor said maybe that is why I’m in so much pain, they gave me pain medication and set me up for an mri to see if my nerves in my l4 & l5 lumbar are damanged or not.

5.) Pain medication did not help actually made me more sick

6.) February 22nd had my mri done.

7.) February 24th the doctor called and said my mri showed that my nerves are not damaged. But that my disk below my L5 is bulging.
**** They said that would be causing a little bit of the pain but not all the pain im in.
***** THey said they dont know what else is wrong and advised me to see a pain managment doctor.

8.) The doctor gave me pain medication and pain patches to wear but that is all they offered. They said when my pain goes to a 5 and im able to walk more and stand up more then ill have to go through physical therapy > but no idea when that will be.

With all that is said above,
1.) I’m still in alot of back pain
2.) I’m still unable to stand up (still bent downward!)
3.) I’m still getting sick off and on.
4.) Pain meds are not helping at all.
5.) Still unable to have anything touch my back as it adds more pain!
6.) Unable to do anything!

I’m looking for any advice, or ideas to try or even to look into! Anything would be appreciated! I’v delt with this for far to long, and cannot do anything at all! I’d like to have my life back. I’d like to find an answer or a different option to fix the pain issue so i’m able to stand up and have no pain or at least less pain! Right now doctors I’m personally seeing have thrown their hands up in the air and said they dont know and can no longer help. If you could please offer any kind of advice on what I should do or another type of doctor to look into seeing or even tell me something you think it could be so I can look up information on it or anything else I’d honestly with all my heart appreciate it! This has taken over my body, and has taken over my life. I no longer can live a normal life. I’d like to get back to normal and be able to do things again! Please…

Please! And thank you to those who offer any kind of advice or ideas or exc. Myself, and my family are trying so hard but were running out of ideas so I thought id try to get others help at this point. Ill do anything for answers. And maybe you can think of something we havnt or even my doctors havnt!

Thanks again!

i had culture & sensitivity test done on my urine sample the test shows to be "no growth" also i had a stool examination which shows no bacteria , after that the doctor asked me to repeat the urine test , i did , then he told me i had blood in my urine and no bacteria, he transferred me to a urologist , he had a look at my penis (which he didn’t see any symptoms) …then he describe for me doxycycline 100mg for 7 days , my question is if i had chlamydia or any other STD why the Culture test came back negative and no bacteria in my urine , second why there is blood in my urine im sure if the doctor suspect that i had kidney stones he would gave me a different medication but seems he is treating me for SDT coz he gave me doxycycline

I know the actual virus can be passed on since its contagious, but is there bacteria that could be passed on?

My boyfriend knows about me having type 2 H. I took medication to control my 1st outbreak last month. I have only given him oral and he has used a toy on me but he washed his hands RIGHT after. during that time i had no signs of an outbreak and we have never had sex after i found out.

Anywho… 2 days ago he has had symtoms of what seems to be kidney stones, which i read from webmd. No sores or blisters just a walnut sized lump above his groin below his waste. He said its hurt to the touch. And it painful to urinate.although there are no sores present. He went to the emergency room today and he told me the doctor said he has herpes bacteria on his penis. I’ve heard of passing the virus but not bacteria…and ive never heard of those type of symptoms being herpes. I am very confused and very worried. He cant go back and forth to the doctor because he has no health insurance. so if anyone could help me or give me some information on this would be very greatful.

Thank You

My son is 16 yo and is having pain when he goes to the bathroom. He is also having some pain in his stomach(possibly bladder area) and he said his back hurt a while ago. He has an appointment on Friday and is taking some medication right now that turns his urine blue until then. I have had a history of stones myself and have had gout since I was 16 in my big toe. His father had a stone a few months ago .Could he possibly have a stone? He swears it’s not an STD…..I made sure I brought it up. I wasn’t 100% sure how hereditary kidney stones were. Or could it just be a urinary tract infection? And yes, he is already going to the Dr. to be 100% sure. I was just curious what others thought it could be.

I am on thyroid medication.50 levothroxine my thyroid runs low. I have been on this medication for about a year and they said it is working fine. May 6, 2010 I had lithotripsy for kidney stones.
On May 23 rd I started my period in which I hadn’t had one in 5 months started my period and two hours later in the middle of the night I felt chilled got up to change close and passed out.
I woke up and laid on the bed for a hour I felt like I had to go to the bathroom got up and went to the bathroom had diarrhea tried to get up from the toilet and passed out again. I tried to get up from the floor and passed out again. I was told by the doctors that the stones were not gone and were lodged in the ureter and was backing urine into the kidney which was toxic and that and the diarrhea made me pass out. Now My lymph nodes have been swollen off and on and going up into the left side of my head. It feels like something is draining on my left side of my gland in my throat I keep swallowing something. When this gland swells it gives me a light headache and the back of my neck hurts like there is another gland there or something. I also keep having hot flashes night and day. Sometimes it feel like something is lightly crawling on the left side of my head inside.
I have not had the flu or a cold in several years. I Have had some dental work but after all of this medical issues started. Please help me someone. I am 54 years old and don’t know what to do.
I talk to my doctor and he said we will take more lab work in two months. My last lab work had a weird reading saying my WBC is 3.8 L and should be 4.5 or higher. also the absolute granulocyte was 2.1 L should be 2.5 or higher. I have never had any chemo or anything like that.
Please if anyone has any answers for me PLEASE HELP ME !! I am really worried because it has been since May 2010 this has been going on and last week it has come back. One more important detail I feel lightheaded and dizzy all the time even while laying down.
Please help ! Thank you !

I am positive I have a kidney stone at this point. I went onto WebMD and all the symptoms and stuff matched plus my father had surgery for kidney stones when he was around my age as well. I just have a question.. How much does it cost to get tested? I dont have insurance for small things like this, only catastrophe insurance that covers me if I have to do surgery or something that costs over 5000$. I know they will want to do an x-ray and IVP tests and all that but I’m wondering how much all of this will cost including medication? Thanks

Hi, I am a 21 year old female. Since I was very young I have had digestive system problems. Whenever I eat my GI tract gets upset. Some foods upset it more but it’s not consistent and hard to keep track of. Almost every single bowel movement I have had since I was a little kid has been diarrhea. I urinate very little only two, maybe three times a day and my urine is always yellow because I lose so much water from diarrhea. Last year I had kidney stones. I get very fatigued easily.

I am sick of living with these symptoms so I recently saw a gastroenterologist and had a colonoscopy. My colon was fine and the biopsies came back fine. Blood tests came back fine except for a little "inflammation" whatever that means. The doctors said it was not irritable bowel syndrome, colitis, or celiac disease.

I have an appointment with the gastroenterologist soon and he is going to put me on a medication. Since IBS, celiac disease, and colon diseases have been ruled out I am wondering what else it could be.

I realize there are a million diseases of the digestive system but I was hoping somebody could narrow it down to just a few given my symptoms and the fact my colon is fine.

Thanks.
I was not abused or anything like that. I am stressed but I doubt this is stress linked because even as a little kid I always had diarrhea and during days/weeks/months when I’m not all that stressed I still have diarrhea.

So my cat went to the vet 5 weeks ago, after constantly going to the bathroom and also licking her butt, to be diagnosed wrong with a skin infection then 1 week later with a Urinary Tract infection. Then 2 weeks later after being on medication for 2 weeks ended up being rediagnosed with a uti, but also examined her for possibly having cancer plus many other options, all tests showing negative. We are at the point of being low on funds and still having this problem. If any suggestions are out there please inform.

And where do you give the shot?
Thanks to all who were concerned about my cat (Taz thanks you too). This is a medication that was prescribed for him earlier. My sister lived with me then and handled his care. Our vet has been closed the last couple of weeks due to ill health (we live out in the country). The folks on Yahoo Answer are pretty quick to respond so I was trying to get it in him as quickly as possible. I’ve had several cats over the years and all but one lived to be 15 or older (Taz is 10 now) so I am not an irreponsible pet owner (the duh’s really aren’t necessary). Thanks again for the concern of my cat’s well being. :)

I recently went to the Emergency room and it turned out I had a 4mm kidney stone. I was in so much pain that when my grandmother came to pick me up I told her to take me to the emergency room. I did not know it was a kidney stone at the time. My question is, is it better to go to the Emergency room or would Urgent Care be adequate for treatment?
They gave me torodol (or something with a name like that) and nausea medication. I could barely move at the time because of the pain. I was there almost 8 hours total, so I was glad to have the medication. The stone passed the next day. I was just

Well, it all started two days ago. I woke up with severe pain in my abdomen, right below my ribs and, like, in my rib cage. As the day progressed, the pain continued to get worse and spread to my lower abdomen. The pain got so bad I couldn’t move, I couldn’t be touched, my so stomach was rock hard, I mean, the bed I was on couldn’t be touched without it making me miserable. I saw a doctor who immediately ruled out pregnancy and appendix, for the time being. She said that since most of the pain was in the lower left side. I was given a medication for cramping, sent home and told if the medicine didn’t help, to go to the ER. The medication didn’t help, but Immodium did. Yesterday, I didn’t feel any pain in my stomach, I did however, have very severe flu-like symptoms, returned to the doctor, no flu, given antibiotics and that’s it. Now, my stomach is beginning to hurt again, centralized in my lower left-hand side, randomly shooting straight across my stomach to the right side. As of right now, it’s very dull but I have a feeling it’s gonna get worse. Should I be concerned about my appendix or kidney stones? I’m out of guesses and don’t really want to go to the hospital if it can be avoided.

I’m a 25 yr old female. I’ve been having problems with frequent urination and urgency. My urologist thought it was overactive bladder. I was put on medication and that problem seemed to slow down. Then I started having other problems. I would get these weird muscle spasms in my vagina and urethra. And now I experience pain in my back and side. I went back to the dr and they found a trace of blood in my urine. So now she thinks it’s kidney stones and I’m scared to death. The only thing I ever drink is water so now I’m drinking more to try to flush it out. I go for an ultrasound on Friday and am scared to death. I’m not ready to go through this.

My husband has been having severe pain on the left side..just about the abdomen…and towards the back.
He has a ‘kidney stone’ history ,but this time too the doctor says the same.Though he is on medication ,yday night also he got severe pain and had to be given severe pain killers shots .
I am worried if the doc just went by our words of past history of kidney stone cause he didnt even physically check him once(the scan and xray reports didnt give enough clues on the issue ..even to the doc)
Can this be any other issue ?
i saw a general physician and then a urologist.
justnow enquired from the urologist,he says that the pain indicates that the stone is coming down.but i am seriously worried.

Yesterday, the weather was pretty hot and I didn’t drink enough water or any liquid for that matter as much as I should have. Today, I had my typical morning coffee, and after I had my lunch with a cup of water, my left kidney started hurting really bad. Sharp pain and when I went to go urinate, eveytime I "pushed" to pee, it would hurt. Since then, I’ve been drinking water non stop with some cranberry juice, the pain has gone down, no more sharp pain, but there is a throbbing pain that I cannot ignore, the only part that I’m in pain is from that abdominal pain where my left kidney’s at. Is this for sure kidney stones or what do you think? Are kidney stones so common that they can just "wither" away without any medication or surgery? I’d appreciate any info or insight. Peace.

Ok guys I’ve searched the internet hi and low and I want to know your opinion! I’m going to a specialist for this already, but its taking so long to get answers (hard to get into and at the moment just getting lots of tests ordered every time i go to see her) and this has been doing my head in for A LONG TIME. I want to know if anyone has been through this and/or knows whats going on.

For YEARS i have had pain when urinating. As the years have gone on, my symptoms have been more and closer between. The symptoms seem to be less obvious the more water I drink. Sometimes if I get slack with drinking water, the pain gets so sharp and intense i have to sit in an extremely hot bath to make it feel like its not there, flood my body with water, there will be blood in my urine and eventually – after about 6 – 8 hours – the pain goes away. I also have a long history of vaginal problems too – thrush, bacterial infections, general discomfort, thick discharge.

Before I go on, I am female, 20, fit and healthy, eat well, wipe properly when I go to the toilet, hygenic, drink cranberry juice. I am on the contraceptive pill (have had all these problems before pill) and I am anaemic which i am treating with Ferro-grad C.

It turns out I have Ureaplasma. I’ve been on two rounds of Doxycyline (1 week each) and one round of Erythromycin for 12 days. Neither medication has worked.

But is this my problem? My doctor thought kidney stones… but nothing has come up in neither contast and non contrast CT, or ultra sounds. Nothing wrong at all in fact.

She is now talking of putting me to sleep and sticking some tube up my urethra and seeing if i some urethral divaticulam or something?? Apparently the tubes are the wrong size and they don’t even make them anymore, and now I am freaking out cos she has found one of the last 3 in perth and wants to do it herself. Sounds awful!

Someone help me I’m over it. I’m upset :(
