I’m 15 and just found out 2 weeks ago that I have a kidney stone. Its been hurting for a while, enough to send me to the er. But now that they know what it is I don’t want to go to the er. They gave me hydrocodone 5/500 or something and I took one earlier cause it was hurting but then it started hurting again real bad a few minutes ago so I took another with hardly any(if any) relief. I’m have a lithotripsy next Thursday. This is painful now and I just wanted to knowwhat parts will hurt. I know the lithotripsy will make me sore but how does it hurt when they start passing? Where does it hurt? When will it start? Does when it come out hurt or just moving from my kidney down the tube? I’m so scared. And what can I do to relieve the pain? Thanks, hope y’all had a great new years and holidays.
The doctor said its the size of a marble. I heard that too. Just what can I do to relieve it?? I mean I hate this! And I’ve been having pains for 2 or3 years.
I’m finding that sitting in a tub of hot water with the water hitting directly where is hurts is helping. And I’m trying to drink lots of water but I throw most of it up.

I passed a kidney stone a year ago (my frist one) then I found out I had another one and had a lithotripsy. I am experiencing some back pain in my lower right side but my urine isn’t changing colors at all. I also am having some nausous moments too but no vomiting. Can someone please tell me what this sounds like? Its been bothering me for 4 days now and can’t get to my doctor until next week. I just want to know if it sounds like I have a stone in my kidney working its way down or if it sounds like something else. Thank you

im 16 and i have a 2 cm kidney stone. in the last few months ive had two rounds of Lithotripsy and had stents put in my kidney.

it hurts insanely right after i go to the bathroom, so badly i just have to double over for a moment until it passes. it also often hurts randomly for no apparent reason. my pain is in my front lower side, not in my back like it often is.

i was just wondering if someone who has had stones could describe their pain. im curious as to how it effects different people.
they could remove it but they didnt want to do surgery unless absolutely necessary. im scheduled to go back in 2 weeks for another Litho, and they are thinking of doing another type of procedure.

My husband in last one year gone through Prostate Biopsy and twice Lithotripsy. Last time of 15January) After 15 jan he had bloody urine for some days and nausea and vomiting and the stones came out in 10 pieces. since last 20 days we had sex for 4 days and he had blood in semen. before it used to look like muddy but last time it was just like blood. Can somebody Tell me what is the reason?
He called his doctor ( Urologist) And he said not to be worry it will go away by itself. from the very first time. Now doctor has gone for a week and it was 4th time. I am worried to the last. I have contacted our physician and showed him the blood sample on the paper too he asked what the urologist said and then he too said it is not to be worry. One person I know he is Cardiologist in USA I asked him and he said not to be worried. It is action reaction. I am worried up to the last. Pleas help me and give me the detail.
One thing I think he has done 2 hours yoga everyday. Do you think this may have caused any damage in organs.
Can stones blocked in KUB may cause this because I feel doctor saw that stone was not in the kidney but not in uretor or bladder.
Dr. Swami Please help me I am on orkut and facebook too

My wife had kidney stone. She was treated with Lithotripsy. But her urine tested positive for E.Colli. She has vomitting feeling and burning during urination. She was treated with Magnex seven injections once and again on recurrence with Amikacin seven injections. On reccurance she is now given Martifur 100 mg. thirty tabs 0- 0 – 1 every day. Is there a better way of tackling it. Vomitting sensation and vomitting is causing a lot
of problems. She is 68 years old.

the US healthcare system seems pretty screwed up to me, we pay 3X as much other developed nations for our healthcare but its still not all that good, our birthing deaths are 3 times that of countries like japan and sweden and our life expectancy is one of the worst, up to 5 years less, we also have the worst turnouts for many fairly common medical procedures. we say that we have the best medical technology because we have the most mri units, open heart surgery centers, lithotripsy scanning centers, ct scanning centers and cardiac catheterization centers. but socialized countries dont need to have all this equipment because the hospitals aren’t competing with each other and if someone needs any of this done you could just send them to a hospital 10 mins away, another thing is hospitals like jefferson healthcare (where my dad works, i get most of this from him) dont have any negotiating power with large insurance or pharmaceutical companies and end up paying .00 for a pill that cost $.01 to make, anyways, as you can probably see my view on this is fairly one sided so if you can help me to understand a Conservative standpoint on all of this please do

I am currently on kidney stone #5 in 3 years..this one has been there for 1 1/2 weeks. My brother doesn’t believe me that it hurts so bad. He says him having mono for a week is way worse than my kidney stone! Haha! Are kidney stones worse for women or men? Is it fair to compare it to being kicked in the balls during that sharp stabbing pain with stones? No guy I know has had one to ask.

I try to compare it as the worst cramps you’ve ever had, plus being stabbed and kicked all at the same time, and STILL doesn’t do it justice!

Also, I keep reading many false things on here. One person said that when you have lithotripsy they put you in a tub of water and shock it out…it has nothing to do with water and they knock you completely out. Stints are something the doctor must put in AND take out, you can’t do it on your own! You should always try to catch the stone, and coffee filters work fine. And no, peeing into that strainer is not the most annoying part of a stone! Sheesh!
I’ve had many kidney stones before so I know what they are (mine are calcium).

It’s good to know that there is at least a medicine out there..I’ll have to ask about it the next time I’m in!

I have a friend that has been experiencing pain in her back as well as pain on urination and blood in her urine. She just had a kub ultrasound done yesterday. The Doctor said there was nothing of concern showing up in her kidneys other than 1 small kidney stone. The doctor told my friend that the stone could easily be gotten rid of by taking antibiotics (which she has already done twice prior to the ultrasound with no improvement). Could it be that she was not given the proper antibiotic for removing kidney stones but one for UTI instead (which was the preliminary diagnosis)? I myself have a very large kidney stone in my left kidney which my urologist has been monitoring for the past 4 years with an annualy Xray. It has never given me the least bit of trouble and I have never seen blood in my urine. If it’s true that kidney stones can be gotten rid of with antibiotics why wouldn’t my urologist have already prescribedthem for my stone? He said the only solution is to do one of 2 procedures, one which involves going up through the urethra and into the kidney breaking up the stone into small pieces that would still have to be passed with urination …VERY painful! The other choice would be something called lithotripsy which is a laser type method used to break the stone up also and the small pieces would still have to be passed through urination ….. again VERY PAINFUL!
My question is NOT how to avoid getting kidney stones but whether antibiotics can get rid of them.

I’ve been dating my bf for 6 months now, he is older than i am. I am 27 and he is 50, I know that is a big gap. He does have kids from previous relationships. I get along with his other kids very well. I know we’re close to talking about marriage, but I really want to have a baby with him. He has had a variety of health problems. He has high blood pressure, had a gallstone, he’s passed his share of kidney stones too and has an enlarged prostate, bph I think. He recently had some stone problems. He had a lithotripsy back in May & passed several fragments. In June he also had a stone removed by ureteoroscopy & shortly after that, has passed 2 more stones and he has blood in his urine again & thinks he may have another stone! Having all of these stone problems and stuff, would this make him sterile? When we’ve had sex, he still gets it up as good as any other guy, but would he be able to get me pregnant? most likely his health problems would be passed on to your kids, if we have any?

I’m just wondering how long I have to wait to have sex after a c-section..also, did it hurt for you, what did it feel like. And if anyone knows…can I have sex right after I have a lithotripsy? (It’s a procedure where they use sound waves to break up kidney stones) I’m gonna ask my doctors of course, I’m just curious now. I’m planned for a c-section on nov 12 and then after a few weeks have to have my stones dealt with. I’ve been in so much pain from the kidney stones that my hubby and I haven’t had sex in what feels like forever and I would really like to know when I’ll be able to again…

I’m on Blue Cross/Blue Shield (nearly 5 a month just for myself) and my husband receives Cherokee Nation benefits (free).

He gets better health care than I do (this includes a ,000 lithotripsy in 2005 which was all paid for by the Cherokee Nation, as well as ongoing care for a chronic dental issue and cholesterol … his dental issue and cholesterol are under control). If he was still on my private insurance (it would cost 0 a month additional to add him), he would still be having kidney stones, high cholesterol, and his dental issue. On my private insurance, I can only afford one endoscopy a year (I have a precancerous condition in my throat).

I’m in the process of finding out if anyone in my family was on the Dawes roll, because private insurance sucks.

My husband is on Social Security Disability for a refractory seizure disorder. He receives free medical care and medicine through the Cherokee Nation (he is a Cherokee citizen). He is on the hospital portion of Medicare. He receives better care through the Cherokee Nation (example: ,000 lithotripsy all paid for through the Cherokee Nation, among lots of other things) than he ever did when he was under my private insurance which costs 0 a month addition to cover just him.

Will this new health care reform (if it passes) affect him in any way? Will he be required to purchase insurance? (My point is this would be counterproductive since he already receives free medical care anyway.)

I am on thyroid medication.50 levothroxine my thyroid runs low. I have been on this medication for about a year and they said it is working fine. May 6, 2010 I had lithotripsy for kidney stones.
On May 23 rd I started my period in which I hadn’t had one in 5 months started my period and two hours later in the middle of the night I felt chilled got up to change close and passed out.
I woke up and laid on the bed for a hour I felt like I had to go to the bathroom got up and went to the bathroom had diarrhea tried to get up from the toilet and passed out again. I tried to get up from the floor and passed out again. I was told by the doctors that the stones were not gone and were lodged in the ureter and was backing urine into the kidney which was toxic and that and the diarrhea made me pass out. Now My lymph nodes have been swollen off and on and going up into the left side of my head. It feels like something is draining on my left side of my gland in my throat I keep swallowing something. When this gland swells it gives me a light headache and the back of my neck hurts like there is another gland there or something. I also keep having hot flashes night and day. Sometimes it feel like something is lightly crawling on the left side of my head inside.
I have not had the flu or a cold in several years. I Have had some dental work but after all of this medical issues started. Please help me someone. I am 54 years old and don’t know what to do.
I talk to my doctor and he said we will take more lab work in two months. My last lab work had a weird reading saying my WBC is 3.8 L and should be 4.5 or higher. also the absolute granulocyte was 2.1 L should be 2.5 or higher. I have never had any chemo or anything like that.
Please if anyone has any answers for me PLEASE HELP ME !! I am really worried because it has been since May 2010 this has been going on and last week it has come back. One more important detail I feel lightheaded and dizzy all the time even while laying down.
Please help ! Thank you !

Last year I had a lot of kidney stones, so many that my doctor ordered a Lithotripsy. (Blasting of stones with a laser to make them small enough to pass)

I went home and did as they said, took pain killers if needed and drank a lot of water. I drank more than a gallon.

Towards the end of the night things started moving and i felt pretty uncomfortable so i took a pain killer and fell asleep. I woke up the next morning and was in a lot of pain. I had to go to the ER.

They gave me morphine and hydrated me. No scans. I felt good after awhile but most likely because of the drugs. I went home and wrote any pain that i had off as residual pain from the passing of stones.

Naturally after a long morning in the ER on drugs, and most of the rest of the day trying stay awake I had to sleep. I woke up at 9pm in the worst pain I’ve ever experienced.

Back to the ER I went. They rushed me in because they saw I still had a bracelet on from the morning and they knew they screwed up sending me home without doing any scans. The nurse ran me down the hall in the wheelchair, so fast my parents couldn’t keep up.

The tried to manage my pain with various drugs, nothing worked. They used so much they were preparing to reverse an O.D.

A cat-scan showed a 10mm obstruction and a 7.5mm obstruction trying to pass through the ureter. There was no room for me to do surgery at that time so they gave me a room and a button to self administer drugs. which didn’t help one bit.

9pm – 630am was hell
Prep for surgery

The surgeon, who works in the same practice as the surgeon who did the lithotripsy, talked to me before hand and was not happy with him. She said that he should have put in a stint to allow the particles to flow and not clog like they did.

She did an invasive surgery and physically removed everything she could find. She put in a stint as well. I am very thankful and grateful for her but…

Now i have a ,000 bill that I can’t possibly pay for(I’m 23) Ive received my final notice from a collections agency and I’m just so overwhelmed. There’s ambulance fees from other stones, (unrelated incidents ) and KUB’s. It just keeps piling on. I feel hopeless at ever being able to move out. Now here I am one summer later and I am in pain once again.

I followed their directions so I just don’t feel like I should have to pay for a room and a second emergency surgery that they caused by not putting one little plastic tube in me.

Do you think I have a case if someone comes knocking at my door? can I say "I’m getting a lawyer and I’ll see you in court"

I had my baby about 3 1/2 months ago. This was my third child, and I am breastfeeding. Everything is different with this one. He has been going longer between feedings than my dughter did at this age. He is going about 4-5 hours between feedings sometimes. With my daughter, which was my second child, I had started my periods again about this time and she was only going about 3 hours between feedings. I have not started birth control yet because I was put on antibiotics a few weeks ago for a procedure I had done. I had to have a kidney stone removed from my right uretur and also had lithotripsy done on my right kidney to break up some stones. I had that done on Feb 26th and had a preg blood test a week before which came up neg. I am due to start my birth control today but have not had my period and was just curious when I might expect it. I have shown some signs of PMS.

Ok, I recently had a kidney stone blasted (lithotripsy, not sure on spelling) and they had to put a stint in to allow for parts of the stone to pass through.
(The stint was put up to my bladder/kidneys through my penis)

Well I have started to get better and with it my little buddy has been getting better as well.

Problem is, whenever I get "excited" my buddy goes up on the stint string. it kills. same thing when it goes back down….it kills

Is there anything I can do to limit this pain and will it have any long term effects?

I have had it for a week and I hopefully get it out Monday,

that brings me to another question. What will it feel like and how painful will it be when it comes out?

Yesterday my brother had lithotripsy with a stent placed. He was told to remove the stent himself on Wednesday. Is that a common practice-to have the patient remove his own stent? His Urologist is 1.5 hrs from his home, so I’m thinking that’s why. I’ve just never heard of that and I’m afraid from him. Does anyone know anything about this practice?

Hi,

I have a problem and I don’t know what it’s called or if anyone else has had this problem. The reason I don’t know what it is, is cause the Dr’s. pretty much gave up on me. It started 10yrs ago. First, I have a kidney disease called Medullary sponge kidney. Lots of stones and lots of lithotripsy’s. But that’s not the problem. I started getting severe cramping that led to diarrhea on a daily basis. In 1 month I lost 20lbs. The second month, I lost another 20lbs. The doctors sent me to a gastrointestinal doctor, where he tried to do a colonoscopy. That didn’t go very well. While awake he tried to pump 10 lbs of air into me. I could only handle 1lbs. Why? Cause I was screaming to make him stop. By the time I had got to that doctor, I was going in everyday for IV’s. For re-hydration. Water wouldn’t even stay in me. I would take Imodium3 to 4x a day on a regular basis just to go to pick my son up from school. And even when I would drink water the cramping was so severe that my insides felt like they were bruised. It would take up to 3 days later to feel less bruised. Finally the gastrointestinal doctor sent me to the pain clinic. They put me on 5mg of oxycodone 4x’s a day. And finally I was able to eat and drink anything I wanted. The problem is: I’ve been on pain meds since that day. And when I’ve tried to go off of them, the intense, severe, cramping and bruising comes back. There is no pain like it. I rather have a kidney stone then to have even 1 episode of whatever this is. I’ve gained weight. Lots of it. And I know all I have to do is stop the pain meds and I’ll lose weight. But it’s not worth it. There is nothing in this world worth that pain. I have had to stay in motels because of traveling issues. Cramping in the middle of nowhere, ruining my vacations, missing important dates, everything. And if taking pain meds help keep it at bay, then so be it. But I want to know what it is. And the only way I can get another Dr. to do tests is to go off the medicine and have it start all over again. That’s why I’m hoping someone out there can give me a clue as to what it might be. I don’t think I ever seen blood in my stools except from going so often and being raw. A long time ago, I seen a study that was done where they were talking about the difference between IBS and another disease and the IBS didn’t fit what was happening but the other one said pain meds will stop it. Unfortunately, I can’t find that article any longer. And my new Dr. doesn’t understand why I don’t want to go off of pain meds. So I need help as soon as possible. If he takes me off the pain meds, I would rather die then go through that pain again. I need some information to show him that this is real. The pain Dr. that I had, left the state and is no longer taking care of me. And this new Dr. is anti-pain medicine. Even if it helps. Please please help. I’m running out of time. Oh and I had test done to see if there was an infection or some kind of bug that was causing this and all test came back negative. There is actually a worm that gets into your intestines that can cause problems and they even checked for that. That too came back negative. Thank goodness!!

I really hope someone out there can help me?

Thank you,
Andrea K.

My grandma had some kidney stones, she had lithotripsy(kindey blast) done and had to continue monitoring it to see how many pieces came out. She then got an xray that showed there was one big chunnk, about 3mm left and she just got it out yesterday. Today she discovered blood in her urine. Any ideas as to what’s going on? since the cord from the kidney to the bladder is only about the size of a spaghetti noodle, I guess that it ripped somewhere while the kidney stone was being passed but Im no doctor. Any one have any idea?

I just had lithotripsy and a double j stent was placed. I had very bad kidney reflux so I was taken to the ER last night to have a foley catheter in. That was very painful. I just woke up at 3 am and have a real urge to pee. I am not sure if I am supposed to somehow just let the urine leak out, or if I can actually push urine out like you would normally when you take a pee. My right kidney is hurting pretty bad so i am drinking water, which makes me want to go more, but I just want to know if I can push?I don’t know if having this catheter is really a better choice then dealing with the intense kidney reflux/pain when urinating. thanks.

ok so a little background info before everyone gets on here and tells me how im so horrible for having government assistance and its not the taxpayers responsibility to take care of me and blah blah blah.
so when my husband and i were trying to get pregnant i had a wonderful job at an engineering firm with benefits; vacation, 401k, health, dental, and vision. my husband also had a GREAT paying job as a concrete finisher (benefits of his were dropped when the economy started going down..he worked for a VERY small company) but that was ok because mine were so great. so when i got pregnant, everything was great. at 11 weeks, i started developing chronic kidney stones (about 1 or 2 a month lasting anywhere from 4 days to 3 weeks) rendering me unable to work (which i lost benefits and couldnt afford cobra) a few weeks later, my parents asked us to move in with them rent, bill, and grocery free so my husband could quit his job to stay home and take care of me. i have been working since i was 14, so i did not feel so guilty applying for medicaid (i did not have any other options anyways). so that is why i am on government assistance.
so i had my baby a month ago and have undergone 3 operations and now my left kidney has stopped functioning once again because of a large kidney stone. my doctor ordered a lithotripsy asap so i wouldnt lose permanent function in my kidney. so i go to schedule the surgery and they tell me that it will be at least 48 hours until the surgery can happen and thats if they can find an anasteiologist that accepts my insurance that quickly (it could take as long as 3 weeks..by then i will have permanent damage). my questions are 1) do they treat everyone on government assistance like they are less than human and do not deserve care? and 2) is there anything i can do to speed this up?
***i post every question on Newborn and baby because i like getting responses from other moms. also please no one tell me that i am less than human because of my situation. i would rather no one try to hurt my feelings over this. thanks in advance.
*i applied for medicaid when i was about 8 months along..when mine ran out.

My first kidney stone was horrifyingly painful & it was 1cm (10mm). Didn’t need any treatments other than lots of pain meds, and it passed on it’s own. Had 2 more that must have been smaller because they weren’t nearly as painful & passed easily. Now I’ve got another 1cm stone that they are going to do lithotripsy on because it isn’t even fitting into the ureter this time.

PS – I also just had a gallstone removed that was 1 1/3 inches X 1 inch.

Now if only I could make diamonds….!
I can’t believe some people crying about their 1mm stone! Boo hoo!
LOL. I should’ve known the guys would play the penis card!
