About a month ago they found calcium in my urine. Then on the 10th they found a small amount of blood. Yesterday they found a small amount of blood. Then tonight I wen to the ER for back pain I have been having for the past 3-5 days in the kidney region, mostly on the "right" side. The doctor told me that it didn’t sound like pain from a kidney stone, but said he has been wrong before. He mentioned I have chronic back pain, then sent me for a CAT scan of my kidneys.
The Tech found 1 small stone in my "right" kidney and a small amount of blood in my urine, 3-5 something per something, I don’t remember exactly. He says it is nothing to worry about because it is so small. The nurse told me if my urine gets darker or the pain gets worse to come back in.
Last October I had what I thought was a flu, due to back pain and a fever. It turned out to be a 6mm kidney stone stuck in my ureter that blocked off my left kidney filling it with puss. The infection then spread to my blood stream (ecoli). I am now scared to death of kidney stones. Three days into my 6 day stay in the hospital, the doctor came in and told me "you know, when you first came in here you were dying"
I am 28 years old.
Should I be concerned??? What should I do??? My back is so sore. I have other problems if you want to read my other questions.
I am just so afraid it will grow and block me up again. Two of my kids birthdays are in October, I missed them both last year, ER on 1, admitted on the other. Then on my wedding anniversary, same month, I had a lithrotripsy. I don’t want to repeat that.
I have had 4 vaginal births, so my pain tolerance is up there. But I also have fibromyalgia, so everything hurts.
Help, what should I do?
also have a uterine prolapse, cystocele and rectocele. Is this related?
By are they related, I mean are these problems causing the kidney stones because of the inability to empty bladder or something???
With my last kidney stone and infection, I had a stent implanted before my lithrotripsy. I don’t know the size of the stone. All he said was small. The doctor said he didn’t see it just the tech or something to that effect. He didn’t seem to take me too seriously though. Attributing my pain to chronic back pain and telling me it didn’t sound like a kidney stone. He only did the CAT scan to rule it out. I don’t think he expected to see anything, nor do I think he even really looked. It was just the way he acted.
My take home paperwork didn’t even say Kidney Stone, it said, lower back pain. No hematuria, No Kidney stone, yet he tols me both were wrong.
I think having the diagnosis fibromyalgia on your recors is more of a curse. They just don’t take you seriously.

Hello, I have been having changing symptoms over the past 2 months and it is almost impossible to get a diagnosis. I’ve had endoscopy, colonoscopy, blood tests. The pain started in my left side lower, It was an ache I could feel it when I would bend down. I had a very swollen vein in my left testicle that morning. The swollen vein went away that day, but the ache lasted for a month. I finally went to the doctor and had a ct scan done, everything was normal except 2mm possible kidney stone in left kidney, which "shouldn’t be causing any pain."

Well now for the past month the right side of my ribs has a bad pain when I lean back, I also feel nauseous throughout the day (I am not sure if this rib pain is making me feel unwell, but I have no desire to puke.) Had a kidney ultrasound and gallbladder ultrasound, all okay.

Sometimes I will wake up in the middle of the night and feel like my left leg is VERY weak, hard to explain. There is something going on, but I cannot find the answer. I almost feel a numbness senstation somtimes. I do not have much anxiety, mentally I feel fine.. although the last doctor kept saying it was anxiety. Well if that’s true, why can I not even throw a ball without this shooting pain under my right rib? Where do I go from here?

Could there be some sort of blood clot somewhere in my body causing this? What tests should I have done?

I had the ESWL procedure on on June 10. On the third day after the procedure the stent moved leaving me incontinent for two days until the stent came out on its own. I called my doctor’s office, but they seemed unconcerned, and said that it was normal for this to happen sometimes. I went back to my urologist June 24 for a two week follow up after the ESWL – time that I had spent at home recovering. The urologist did another x-ray and the stone was smaller, and had moved into the upper part of my kidney. The doctor assured me that the stone should not give me any further problems, to come back in 3 months, and cleared me to go back to work.

I worked two shifts on June 27 and June 28. On June 29, I woke up feeling fine, did some errands, and then made my and my son’s lunch around 2pm. Within just a few hours after that my temperature shot up to 103 degrees, I was vomiting, and felt very sick. I was having shooting pains down the outside of my right leg. I felt like I had terrible indigestion, and I was in pain.

I went to the ER, and initially the doctor did not know what was wrong. After several tests including two CT scans, and other x-rays, I was diagnosed with a kidney infection – my left kidney where the stone was had filled with pus, along with an infection in my bloodstream. I was put on a heavy duty antibiotic, and I had to have a procedure done to insert a new stent in my left kidney to get the pus out, and draining into the catheter. I spent 6 nights and 5 days in the hospital, and I was released yesterday on June 5.

I keep feeling that none of this had to happen if the stent had been inserted correctly the first time during the ESWL so that the stent did not move around. I want to know if what happened to me was a case of human error and avoidable. From what I have been told, I am now at a higher risk of this happening again which scares me. I don’t want to feel again like I did last Tuesday night.

I just did a ultra sound and got a notice saying that I have a 0.5 x 0.7 cm Calculus in the lower pole of the left kidney. Ever since I had kidney stones two years three years ago, I’ve been getting them every year! Last year i went to ER for that. My question is how do you prevent kidney stones? How do you get rid of them once you have it ( I have one right now) ? Is 0.5 x 0.7 cm consider a big stone or small? I use computer all day, that might be the case i got stones? cause i always get thirsty.

When I was recently having an ultrasound scan done of my bladder and kidneys, the doctor doing it took a little while looking at my bladder, a little while on my left kidney, then a long time on my right kidney. After looking at the right kidney for some time, he paused and asked whether i have any family history of problems with the kidney, I replied that someone may have had stones at some point but i’m not entirely sure, and he just went quiet which made me think he’s not talking about stones, then he continued looking at the kidney some more.

What kinds of kidney diseases are associated with family history?

My left kidney area is incredibly sore around the side, and edging towards the back a bit, and also edging somewhat to the front of torso. I also am very hungry but have no desire to eat, however i have an exam in a while so i had to eat something and immediately i am feeling sick. The nausea seems to be very acidic.

i recently had a kidney infection 2 months ago, after which the doctors discovered i had a kidney stone in the pelvic area after doing an X ray (not injected with dye though), also had an ultrasound but they could not see my left kidney properly which was where all my pains were during the infection. My treatment for this is not to begin until 8th may.

I had difficulty sleeping last night due to an uncomfortable pressure sensation on the left side. My left flank area also seems to be swollen and more risen than the right side.

Any helpful advice (apart from go to doctors, will do that after exam!)? Thanks

I am 24yrs and during or around my monthly period I get a kidney infection. This has been the case for at least 6months. 4weeks ago i was admitted to hospital and was there for 3 days being treated for suspected kidney stones. Havent had CT scan yet although they did find an echo on my left kidney and i had all the symptoms of kidney infection, as well as testing positive for all kinds of bacteria in my urine..I havent passed any stones as yet.
I started my period again yesterday and woke up this morning with the start of another infection… have been to see my gp who is just contradicting what the hospital have said and didnt prescribe me with any antibiotics so looks like im going to be back in a&e tomorrow when it progresses! no one can explain why the infection kick starts on or around my period and i would just like some other suggestions??!!

I am a 24 year old female. Since beginning of July I’ve been having pains in my LEFT kidney. It was nothing terrible just a faint numbness. I just rubbed it and slept on my right side and it would usually go away. A week ago the pain in my LEFT kidney radiates to my LEFT shoulder blade and the faint pain stays there. Plus the pain got worse. Yesterday I got a pain on my RIGHT ovary… that pain for the most part went away. TODAY I have pain on my RIGHT kidney and the pain radiates to my RIGHT shoulder blade. NOW both sides are hurting. It’s a faint numbness that gets to a sharp pain for a few seconds. If I take a deep breath I feel the pain in my back. Today I am also getting acid reflux with it. FYI my pee is normal. I’m going to the doctor tomorrow but people are telling me it’s my kidneys, gallbladder, stones, ovary infection, mini heart attacks or just bad gas. What do I believe??? I know I will get an answer tomorrow but I’m scared as hell now and want a better educated idea on what might be going wrong here. I take vitamins every morning, drink lots of water, and don’t have a bad diet (I’ve actually lost a lot of weight recently). Please help!

had a ct done and there is a 2mm stone in my left kidney.

What should I expect? How long before it starts to pass? Will one that small hurt really bad? How long will the pain last?

(and before everyone says "why didn’t I ask the Dr" I didn’t think of it as the ct was for something else major I was worried about. Didn’t hear a word about what he said about the stone.)

I had surgery on my left kidney about 9 years ago and it no longer functions. I started having pain in it a few days ago. It is a pretty severe pain and has even spread to my lower abdomen a little. I went to my doctor who put me on antibiotics. He said he is not sure what it is but it could be a kidney stone or infection. I seem to be prone to UTIs and kidney infections. Today I think I saw blood in my stool for the first time. I was wondering if that is related to what is going on with my kidney. Also, I had a renal ultrasound today and the tech was having a hard time finding my left kidney. She said she wasn’t sure what she was looking at and thought something might be in front blocking it. I’ve had ultrasounds before and they’ve never had this problem.
I also have blood in my urine.

I went into the hospital for kidney stones. This making my 5th trip in for these things in less than 3 years. Each and every time I have to have them surgically removed. They are too big to pass and lithotripsy does not work on my kind of kidney stones. This time after having them removed, my kidney decided it did not want to work properly. It became obstructed and my left kidney was having to work overtime to make up for it. Now to the point. I have gained 25 pounds in one week after leaving the hospital. This CANNOT be normal. None of my medicines have changed since the surgery besides the normal prescribed pain killers. Which I barely took any. My diet has not changed. I stay on a strict 1000 calories a day diet. Yes I was bed ridden for a week. But come on! 25 POUNDS IN 1 WEEK! Being bed ridden for a little while could not possibly cause that. What on earth could be making me gain so much weight so quickly?

I have had 4 c sections after my 3 child I was in and out of the doctors office because I would have these painful cramps and pains in my lower abdomin, I would have 2 or 3 periods a month that lasted about 3 to 4 days each. Each time the doctor could not help me. After about a year I passed a gal-stone(not sure the spelling), but then I had my last child and now it has been 7 months and I am starting to have the period problem again, lately I have this pressure to the back of my head and the top of my neck, it feels as if my neck needs to pop, but doesn’t. I have constant head aches. I am always so tired, no matter how much sleep I get. I feel weak, The other day I was sitting with my baby and I got light headed and it felt like all my breath was getting sucked out of my mouth, i had this heavy feeling in my chest and everything turned white. I then have felt the breath problem a few times since. But I woke up this morning and I have this pain in my left kidney area, it is just becoming duller and duller pain, which is bothersome. If I take a deep breath then I feel a pressure in that area and it’ll pop my lower ribs. I don’t know if these symptoms go all together. But I don’t have insurance to go into the doctor several times to get examined, I’d just like some advice from people who might have had these experiences or know something about them. Thank you everyone.
Has anyone gone through this problem and been diagnosed?

in June, the doctors thought i had a UTI because every time i would wipe after peeing, there would be squiggles of blood on the toilet paper, but i had no pain or any other symptoms. they put me on antibiotics untill the lab results came back. well, they came back negative for a UTI, and i wasn’t seeing any blood anymore. exactly two weeks later, on the 4th of July, my blood was bright red in the morning. it looked like watery blood. the color weakened through the day, turning to an orange color. i went back to the doctors, and still no positive results for UTI, so they sent me to get an ultrasound on my bladder and kidneys. they did not see any stones, but they noticed my left kidney is swollen and said that if i dont have more symptoms, to just wait until after i deliver to see if it just goes back to normal.

anyone else have anything like this?

I’m a 35 year old male. I have a severe and very hard pain in my kidneys area (both front & back), it became very frequent in the last 3 months. It is also associated with a very disturbing hypertension, when at peak my BP reaches 160/110 (and I do have BP of 140/95 or more most of the time), and also occasional nausea and dizziness. I have done every test the doctors asked me to including x rays, ultrasound, and CT scan, I also had an endoscopy to check the colon, nothing’s wrong there. I have been to 5 doctors, all of them said my tests are ok and there is absolutely nothing wrong with my colon, kidneys, bladder, prostate, testicles (not even a kidney stone). I still have this pain and it really changed my lifestyle. I can’t work anymore or make money, I rarely go out of home, because I always feel I lack energy, I am always tired and I just wanna lay down, and my sex drive is down significantly, I failed to get an erection on several occasions. I feel as if the pain is a wire connecting the area from my left kidney down to the left testicle, which gets elevated sometimes.

I am very sad and I don’t know what to do.

Can you please tell me what to do, are any other suggestions? Could this severe (life changing) pain & hypertension be caused by another/other reason(s) aside from kidneys? What suggestions do you have, and what tests are needed to verify them?

No words can describe how thankful I will be to anyone who helps me get my normal life back.
Here is my email if you want to contact me: MarjiFX@yahoo.com

Here is a summary of my symptoms:

1.Pain in my left kidney area (both front & back).
2.Hypertension that peaks at 160/110 and most of the time is 140/95 or above.
3.The pain is like a wire that connects from the left kidney down to the left testicle, I do feel the pain in my left testicle which gets elevated sometimes (during the pain only).
4.Enormous deduction in sex drive, and erection failure on several occasions, which is a problem I never had prior to the last few months.
5.Continuous lack of energy, and the feeling that I just wanna lie down and do nothing.
6.Occasional nausea and dizziness.

Thank you very much for your kind help.

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism when I was pregnant with my daughter over 2 years ago. My thyroid then regulated itself halfway through my pregnancy. About 9 months afterI had my daughter(Feb.2006), I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. In March 2007 I became pregnant with my son and was again diagnosed with hypothyroidism, which I am still dealing with. At 6 months pregnant with this last pregnancy, I found out that I had kidney stones. There were three stones in each kidney that were about 10mm in size and a cyst on my left kidney. I thought that those had broken up and I was passing a lot of stones about the size of small peas. I recently went in for a CT scan to see if any stones were left. I just got a call from my urologist who told me that there were even more stones now than there were before. What could be causing this? I have changed my diet as suggested by my urologist. I do also have a history of kidney stones in my family.

I have frequent UTIs and was certain that I woke up with one 4 days ago. I went to the doctor who said that I had white blood cells, blood, and renal cells in my urine and diagnosed me with a kidney infection. He said he was going to have the lab culture the sample to determine the type of bacteria. He put me on Levaquin. They called yesterday and said the culture was negative… no infection. The nurse said to keep taking the antibiotics and call if there is no improvement. Today the burning and urgency is returning and I have a dull ache with the occasional sharp twinge in my left kidney area. Could this be a kidney stone? I certainly wouldn’t consider the pain severe. I have had issues with interstitial cystitis, can that affect the kidneys? Why are there renal cells in my urine?! And why would they tell me to keep taking the antibiotics if the culture was negative? I thought Levaquin was really strong, is there a bug that it can’t kill? any answers would be appreciated

I get Kidney Stones. I’m a 24 year old female. My first stone was when I was 18 years old. I believe in the left kidney, if I am remembering correctly. If anyone reading this has ever had them, then you know they’re excruciating! :( At that time, I had insurance (I live in the state of PA so I was covered under some PA insurance for children called CHIP.) so, I went to the local ER. Determined I had one small stone. It was a couple millimeters. They said to drink TONS of water and try to catch it, and gave me Percocet for the pain. I ended up passing the stone after about 2 days. But, was unable to catch it, so I don’t know what causes my stones. I currently have no health insurance and no money to pay for doctors and such, and visits to the ER are very expensive here.

Back in December I got the same pain I get from a Kidney Stone in my right kidney. Went to the ER, they didn’t do much for me, since I have no way to pay. They give you very minimal treatment if you can’t pay. They basically just gave me a prescription for Vicodin and 800mg of Ibuprofen tablets. I had pain off and on for about a week, eventually, it just stopped. I never did pass the stone though, I’m sure of that. Then about a week ago, I started getting really bad pain in my left kidney. So, I guess I have a new stone in there. I had some Vicodin left from December. But, I used all that. Now all I have is the Ibuprofen. It doesn’t really work. I should go to the ER when I get pain again, but I am tired of racking up huge bills that I can’t pay. Not to mention, they usually just give Vicodin for the pain (which no longer works on me) and if I ask for something else it might just look like I only want the drugs. So, I’m trying not to go to the ER unless I really have to. Thankfully, today has been pain free. I hope it stays that way. But, I’m sure I didn’t pass the stone. As far as I know, I have at least one in each kidney.

So, what I am wondering, does anyone know any real (and SAFE) natural remedies that can help break up/dissolve kidney stones? I’ve been reading up online about all this stuff, I read that Apple Cider Vinegar mixed with some warm water is supposed to help certain kinds of kidney stones. I don’t know what mine are from though or if the ACV solution will help. But, I started trying it last night. I also read Lemon Juice with Olive Oil helps, but there is no way I am trying that one. That sounds horrible. I am just barely managing the ACV. I also read Lemon Juice with water helps. I might be able to try that one. They’re the only ones I know though.

So, please, if anyone knows any other safe, natural home remedies I can try that would help break up/dissolve my stones, that’d be great. Also, for those familiar with the remedies I already mentioned, does anyone know if they’re good for all kinds of kidney stones? Or, only certain kinds? And, which kinds are these remedies good for? Sorry for this being so long and informational, I just wanted to be as specific as possible about my history in case it helps. I’m just desperate to try to get rid of these stones and get some relief. Please, honest and thoughtful answers only!

HI everybody! i m taxi driver in birmingham uk, i was on my job about 3 o clock in the morning and i had passenger on board, as soon i turned from main rd to a side rd i hit a pothole which burst my tyre and bent the allloy wheel too. i arranged another car for the passenger and changed my tyre, but it was too dark to take the photos of the pothole as a proof so i could make a claim for my damage caused by this pothole. i went home and then i felt pain in my kidney and had to go to the hospital where they told me that i got stones in my left kidney , i stayed in hospital for few hours and was sent home to come back the next day for ct scan. I drive because of lots of pain and i was admited in hospital after ct scan for possible operation , later they didnt do operation but told me to stay home and take rest. i was in pain whole week and i didnt go back to the place where this pothole was, after a week when i got there the pothole was repaired and there was evidence of the pothole and it was massive area which was repaired , but now i am asking you can i still make claim for my damages or not? i got proof of hospital admition and proof of not working for whole week. any body with any idea. thanks for your time and many thanks to all of you in advance.

About 2 weeks ago, I had lower back pain followed by nausea. The nausea went away, but the back pain stayed. It’s right near my left kidney. I saw a doctor, did tests and said there’s no infection and after an ultrasound said there’s no kidney stones. A blood test confirmed that my kidneys aren’t working the way they should. (I suspect creatinine levels, but the doc didn’t say) What could this be? If it’s not infections and not stones, I’m confused.
