I went to the dr, because i thought i had a bladder infection or uti..blood work and ua came back neg for infections and std (not sexually active, just putting that out there lol) I have a lot of pain in my right side, maybe an inch or two lower than my rib (its the floating rib, not the ribcage) and i also feel pain in my back, its been pretty consistent pain for about a week, it feels like a stabbing pain, or almost like a bad cramp from running. i also feel it in my back on my right side., about even where it hurts in the front. When the dr pushed on my abdomen, it HURT BAD, she said i didnt have any infections and kind of just blew it off. Im going to get a second opinion on Monday. Could it be a kidney stone? or what? I have been drinking a lot of water lately (2-3 liters a day), ive also been taking azo twice a day for about a week now too, and it hasnt helped. If it is a kidney stone, would it just hang out for a while or flush itself out? Could it even be a kidney stone? Or a misdiagnosed UTI? Kind of confused here, thanks in advance guys

A few months ago I had A kidney stone show up in an annual sonogram. The stone was not obstructing anything so I have not had any pain or symptoms. It was about 5 to 7 millimeters. I have only one kidney so my doctors wanted me to have the shock therapy which I did exactly two weeks ago with a stent. I have been straining and not seen any stone fragments passing. The stent was removed three days ago and I had an x-ray. The stone was split in three fragments.

How long should it take for this stone to finally pass?

If you have ever had a kidney stone, what are the starting symptoms?

Is the pain something that last for a few hours-a day, or is it longer than that?

The past two days I did not drink much water and the food I ate was very salty, and dry, and very little fiber/no fiber at all.

Bowel movements are normal but today when I woke up I had really sharp pains in my mid and lower abs. When I got up and tried to walk I had really sharp pains. The pain was also in my pelvic region and groin. I did have to go to the bathroom but trying to push out a bowel movement hurt (sphincter muscle) , and I was unable to pee until I drank more water. I also felt very nauseas I have been drinking more water and now when I pee there is some pain in the pelvic area I think. The pain is no where near as bad as it was, it has gone down a lot.

I’m not sure if this is possible kidney stone or just the result of the food I ate and lack of water.

With kidney stones is there pain when doing simple movements such as jog/running down the stairs, or anything like that?
I’m not male

Hello!
So here’s the problem,
we all know swallowing tooth-paste is bad, right? Well, I’m grossed out by spit. I hate it when others spit, but I deal with it. However, if I spit, I gag and feel the need to vomit.
After my 13 years and 11 months in this world, I still swallow my tooth-past because I just CAN’T SPIT!
So I know it isn’t good for you, lucky for me, I hate mint and so I still use child’s tooth past. -_-
Could anything happen to me? Is it bad? Is there a way for me to learn to spit? I mean, I tried today, but I had to sit down cause I almost threw up…
Could I get a disease? A kidney stone? Anything?
Please help!

I’m 15 and just found out 2 weeks ago that I have a kidney stone. Its been hurting for a while, enough to send me to the er. But now that they know what it is I don’t want to go to the er. They gave me hydrocodone 5/500 or something and I took one earlier cause it was hurting but then it started hurting again real bad a few minutes ago so I took another with hardly any(if any) relief. I’m have a lithotripsy next Thursday. This is painful now and I just wanted to knowwhat parts will hurt. I know the lithotripsy will make me sore but how does it hurt when they start passing? Where does it hurt? When will it start? Does when it come out hurt or just moving from my kidney down the tube? I’m so scared. And what can I do to relieve the pain? Thanks, hope y’all had a great new years and holidays.
The doctor said its the size of a marble. I heard that too. Just what can I do to relieve it?? I mean I hate this! And I’ve been having pains for 2 or3 years.
I’m finding that sitting in a tub of hot water with the water hitting directly where is hurts is helping. And I’m trying to drink lots of water but I throw most of it up.

I passed a kidney stone a year ago (my frist one) then I found out I had another one and had a lithotripsy. I am experiencing some back pain in my lower right side but my urine isn’t changing colors at all. I also am having some nausous moments too but no vomiting. Can someone please tell me what this sounds like? Its been bothering me for 4 days now and can’t get to my doctor until next week. I just want to know if it sounds like I have a stone in my kidney working its way down or if it sounds like something else. Thank you

PLEASE READ ALL OF THE FOLLOWING . IMPORTANT !! My guinea pig has been peeing blood and
her # 2 is diarrhea . She also has
been really quiet and isn’t eating or drinking except for some lettuce . We took her to the vet this
morning , they gave her an x-ray and what I thought was a urinary tract infection was a kidney stone
blocking her bladder. We have 3 options . A. Give her antibiotics and let the kidney stone stay there , letting my poor Rosie suffer . B. Do nothing (Not an option ! ) C. Give her surgery. Either way , my guinea pig may die . The anesthesia involved may kill her . She may never wake up . She may die of shock also . We cannot dissolve the kidney stone either .

Please pray for Rosie that she will survive . I am just a 13 year old . I don’t know what to do ! I’m really in need of some comforting words .Thank you .

I’m having a kidney stone removed tomorrow by shock wave lithotripsy. The doctor didn’t tell me too much and I was in too much pain to ask questions. Has anyone done this recently? What exactly can I expect? Do they put you under anesthesia?

I’ve never been the type to drink a lot of plain or even flavored water, however I do generally drink a lot of fluids. My friend got a kidney stone at the age of 20 and now again a little over a year later. He’s always drank more water than me, although he also on occasion drinks lots of Monster and other energy drinks.

Does proper vitamin balance and diet help avoid this problem? What is good for you? Juice, Tea, Milk, or only water? It seems like I’ve been told each of those can contribute to kidney stones.

I developed a kidney stone recently. The doctor told me that I need to change my diet and to drink a lot of water. I’m avoiding sugar, grease, fried foods, anything that can make the stone increase in size until it passes. With the drastic change of diet, will I most likely lose weight? I’m 18 by the way.

3 mm stone Dx 2 months ago when abdominal CT was done for vomiting. Last night started with Lt flank pain, nausea, vomiting and temp of 101. Thought it was the flu but checked again the results of the CT and sure enough it was on the Lt side. Saw the Dr today for multiple reasons and had + blood in the urine but no pain at that time. I just caught the Dr prior to 5P and she is ordering antibiotics. I also have severe abdominal bloated feeling and 7/10 pain when palpated flank or abdomen. Temp now 100.6. Here I am an ICU nurse asking if I should go to the hospital but this is my first kidney stone. Of course I have to work 2 -12 hour night shifts this weekend to top it off.
Anyone with remedies when the SEVERE pain comes that you can’t even hold still??? Karen

im 16 and i have a 2 cm kidney stone. in the last few months ive had two rounds of Lithotripsy and had stents put in my kidney.

it hurts insanely right after i go to the bathroom, so badly i just have to double over for a moment until it passes. it also often hurts randomly for no apparent reason. my pain is in my front lower side, not in my back like it often is.

i was just wondering if someone who has had stones could describe their pain. im curious as to how it effects different people.
they could remove it but they didnt want to do surgery unless absolutely necessary. im scheduled to go back in 2 weeks for another Litho, and they are thinking of doing another type of procedure.

Okay folks, let me start from the beginning. A week ago yesterday mother nature had already come for a visit (aka, my period) and also in addition to that I had experienced my first Kidney Stone ever…

I am a 32 year old woman, so I didn’t know what was what, I kept feeling pain at first but passed it off as a menstrual cramp. Nothing I was taking helped. The pain would come and go in waves until Tuesday of last week I had had enough and went t the ER. They Catscan’d me and all that good stuff, they said they couldn’t see the stone but saw evidence that it was there. They gave me morphine and a script for Vicodin and sent me home.

less that 18 hours later, I experiment pain VERY differently and I was SCREAMING, almost called 911.. went back to the ER at 3 AM and they said I had a kidney infection and was shocked and floored that the doctor during the first ER visit did NOT put me on antibiotics… for 3 hours there bey 6 AM they had apparently flushed out the infection with was apparently in it’s final stages.. and sent me home.

Now, everyone, I am left scared here, I never want to have to go through that again… even after the 2nd ER visit, after the infection and stone were declared gone, was still SORE and sleeping round the clock for almost 3 days, thanks to Vicodin.

So, first I do not understand why I was in sore discomfort even after the stone and infection were gone… It blew my mind… why?

and 2. I don’t want this to happen again, everyone told me it was NOT my fault it had occurred but told me to help prevent another by drinking more water. They told me kidney stones are made of Calcium, so okay, I have MS and my doctor has me on a Vitamin D/Calcium supplement, and I wonder now… by me having to take THAT for my MS, am taking more calcium, could that have been the cause of the kidney stone since I was told that they are formed of calcium…?

It is as easy as drinking water to help prevent another stone…?

Was it my fault that I had one cause I didn’t drink enough water?

Why was I hurting with soreness after stone and infection were gone…?

And do taking Calcium supplements encourage the production of stones?

This is a long involved question and I am sorry if anyone gets confused… but my mind won’t stop racing with these thoughts, can anyone put my mind at ease?

kidney stone that recently passed but the dr said he also had a non obstructive stone in upper pole of the left kidney and also limited bowel loops without oral contrast but no bowel obstruction noted. He has had numerous mri’s cat scams and sonos (to which always say he has a unremarkablecontour urinary bladder. Still, he always wakes each morning to excrutiating pain to his left pain. He feels better after pain med and urinating. He is also on Disability for unexplained pain that they finally categorized as severe ibs and abnormal tight lower sphincter causing constipation. We are at our witts end but feel very sure that his pain is coming from something with the left (due to the filing of the left kidney)-he even gets rib pain on side when pain is real bad and he cant move bowels due to straining pain on ribs. He had a ambiguous procedure about 18 yrs ago when he was young due to them thinking he had kidney stones-and he didnt (though this time where sure he had stones he even urinated one out. The operation he had before was said to be that -he was born with excessive vessels and they had to get rid of some of them, i think because the was causing the side bloated and pain. He was cured from that. This pain feels sometimes like the same but seems to always be dismissed due to the mri, ct…….results. Please help as the rt surgery was misdiagnosed to until they opened him up (them days was no lalascopic). He suffers everytine he seems to drink to much water or filled intravenously from too much water on left. Thanks so much- What are the options we should suggest or u would suggest? please feel free to list all ideas that seems feasible? Thx so much

I’ve researched a lot about kidney stones, and about how they feel.

Well, every now in then i’ll get a sharp pain in my lower back, inside where all of my organs are.

I always think it’s a kidney stone, but everytime I go to the hospital, there isn’t any.

Here are the medicines I take on a daily basis, plus a few vitamins. It’s alot, so please don’t say anything. I can’t help what these stupid doctors got me addicted to.

Magnesium, B12, Mega men vitamins, Strattera, Geodone, Vistaril, Suboxone, Baclofen, Remeron, Metapolol, Bisacodyl Laxatives, and Stool softners. I also take something for my acid reflux disease, normally pepcid AC

We live in Hawaii. My husband was seen at the ER August 14th because he couldnt urinate or pass bowels. They did bloodwork on him & gave him pain meds, was going to send him home. When I inquired about the cause, he told us that "if you want, I can send you to the other ER & they can do a CT scan, but you’re going to have to wait long time".

At the 2nd ER, the dr examined my husbands penis & balls. He told us all the bloodwork came back normal & was about to send us home. I insisted that we came there for a CT scan. SO, they finally gave him a CT scan & found a kidney stone & a what appears to be a rectal mass. The dr & nurse explained that sometimes stuff shows up on a CT scan that isnt actually there so he could have cancer, but it could be nothing,& make sure he follows up w/his regular dr & see a specialist. After we informed the dr that my husband didnt have a regular dr established, he recommended us to a dr, who we thought was going to be a specialist. When we called to get an appointment, we discovered that it was an internal medicine dr & to see him, we would have to change our PCP to that dr who is 25 miles away from us. So since that dr wasnt a specialist, we opted to see a PCP that is closer to us, so that whenever my husband needed to see the PCP, it was close (we have QUEST HMSA medical insurance & no cash since my husband is out of work).

We went to Waianae Coast Comprehensive Center & seen DR. LIAO. Worst experience EVER. We could barely understand anything he said when he asked us what ER we went to & what he was seeing my husband for, told my husband he had to lotion & lose weight, then without looking at his paperwork from the ER that I gave him, he left the room. Then the nurse came in & told us to come back in a month for recheck. When I asked the nurse why in one month, she said for recheck. I told her the dr didnt look at his paperwork & explained my husband was in alot of pain & needed to see the specialist right away. She asked me what type of insurance we had & when I told her Quest, she made a face and told me thats why we had to wait a long time. SO naturally my voice raised when I insisted they refer my husband to a specialist immediately & thats when the dr started yelling at us from another examining room to go see another Dr if you dont like it!

We then had to find another PCP. He referred us out to a specialist. We drove there & my husband said that the specialist came in & told my husband that our dr referred him to the wrong specialist, & wrote down information for the urologist. He did not even look at the image of the CT scan or examine my husband. 3 days later, my husband passed a BM with lots of bright red blood. I took him to his Dr & he immediately send us to the emergency room (another different one, not the 1st 2 that we went to). At the emergency room, they gave him pain medication, took a urine sample, & informed us that there was nothing about a rectal mass in my husbands record from the ER. They gave him instructions to follow up w/his PCP & the urologist for his kidney stones and did not examine him or get a sample of his stool. When I asked about what we should do about the rectal mass, they said I dont know. Its weird and confusing because it doesnt say anything about a rectal mass in his report. BUT HE HAS BLOOD IN HIS STOOL! We were then told it could just be from a hemmoroid. Physically & emotionally exhausted & defeated, we went home.

We went back to my husbands PCP the next morning & explained everything that happened w/the specialist & the ER, & the Dr shook his head & then told us to follow up w/the urologist & see if the urologist. When I asked about the rectal mass, they said the urologist can help us because shes a urologist.

I called the ER that told us about the rectal mass & explained everything and they said they cant discuss anything over the phone, but EVERYTHING should be in the report. They wouldnt let me talk to the dr because they said that he couldnt discuss patient info over the phone. They wouldnt tell me his schedule either. I called our medical insurance & they told me to follow up w/the PCP or change PCPs or get a 2nd opinion. We did but because the possible rectal mass is not noted in the report, no one has examined him.

My husbands TDI is pending & no savings. I need to complete a 3 wk class in order to get assistance. BUT I have no cash, bus pass, or gas or family to help. I called the welfare worker & explained our situation & she said there is no way around it, I have to comply w/the class 1st. So I have no childcare & no $ or transportation. We used the pay from my husbands last check to pay our rent & put gas in the car. Now its gone. My phones going to get turned off soon along w/my internet. So then, I wont even be able to call or email!

I dont know what to do about anything. Any positive, educational answers would be greatly appreciated. Please no personal rude comments. I have enough

When I pee it doesn’t hurt, but right after it stings right out of the place where I pee, it feels like something large is trying to come out, it makes my body tense and hurts like that for about 2-5 minutes but when I wipe and press pressure on it, it doesn’t hurt as bad or sometimes at all, That’s the only time there’s pain, I started drinking more juices because I drank a lot of pop over the weekend, it’s been doing this for the past two or three days. I also have sex about twice a week though… but I haven’t ever since it started doing this, and I’m peeing more than usual too, like it’s trying to flush it out. I figured it was either Kidney stone or UTI. Please help.

My boyfriend found out on Wednesday that he has a kidney stone that is 3.6mm wide. He still has pain in his side and his back. When the doctors did a cat scan on Wednesday, it showed that it was just about to drop down into his bladder. Should he go back to the doctor to see if it got stuck? Or is it normal to still feel this pain even after it dropped into is bladder?

My hubby, who is 37, is recently diagnosed with Diabetes and has been prescribed to take Metformin 500mg tds. But he has been diagnosed with fatty liver 2 years before and 7 years before he had kidney stone and went through surgery for that. Now my query is, does metformin has anything to do with these two illnesses as I read in the patient information leaftlet to inform the physician about liver and kidney diseases before starting metformin.

I would appreciate very much if somebody could eloborate what we should do and is there any other alternative for metformin?

I have had a 2.5mm kidney stone at the junction right before it goes to the bladder…according to a cat scan. Its not excruciating, just crampy, and terribly uncomfortable, not to mention confusing pain. My urologist is "surgery happy" i think, and when i ask if this or that is "normal" pain, all he says "if it hurts to much , I’ll take it out." well, that involves SURGERY, and i believe i have a good chance in passing this size. However, its been 3 weeks, and it makes me feel like I have a UTI also. I don’t. Been checked twice for infection. How much longer till this thing could pass? Is this amount of time common???
Thanks
