Long story short i had a kidney infection in my right kidney and was put on antibiotics. The kidney pain came back so i got switched to a stronger antibiotic. It cleared everything up and my urine was even clear. I didnt miss a dose but after six days of feeling fine the pain returned in my left kidney. I feel fine otherwise but before pain was the initial symptom and then i got a fever. I got checked for kidney stones last week and i dont have any. What could this be? Is it the infection again?

I’ve had kidney pain for 7 weeks now scan shows i have a 5mm stone in my left kidney doesnt seem to be going on its own as surely it’d have gone or at least moved by now. it hurts and im fed up how much longer am i likely to suffer or will i need it zapping or surgery?

I am a 31 year old woman, and this is my 3rd visit from the kidney stone fairy in less than 5 years. The last 2 times, my kidneys were peppered with little tiny flecks of "stones", so I am familiar with a little kidney pain, but never knew if/when I was passing them because they were so tiny.

This time, I have 5 stones in my left kidney and 2 in my right. They are all small enough to pass, but are still on the large side of passable. A week after they first showed up, they were still sitting at the top of my kidneys, and hadn’t even begun to move.

I am taking pain pills everyday because I cannot function otherwise. I can definitely tell when these are moving because the pain brings me to my knees, but how will I know if I’ve passed them or if they are still hanging out in my kidney somewhere?

At this point, it’s been almost 3 weeks….shouldn’t I be done with this by now?

Hi everyone-

I’m prescribed quite a large dose of methylphenidate (ritalin) daily: 54 mg of concerta (long-lasting ritalin), and two 20 mg instant release ritalin tablets. We’ve tweaked the dose for a while and this is something that really just makes me feel happy, productive, well-rested, personable, and motivated for once in my life. But it only works at a dose that high.

I WAS a vert severe cocaine addict and alcoholic, then I was prescribed these meds and I’ve been clean and sober ever since. My blood pressure and pulse are fine, I’ve been taking this dose for months. But I’m worried SOMETHING will happen to prevent me from being able to take it.

Does anyone know what this does to the kidneys? I’ve had some lower-left-side kidney pain lately and I’m just terrified something will disqualify me from taking these meds. I’ve had kidney stones in the past. Can someone PLEASE let me know if this will ruin my kidneys? Thanks SO MUCH for any help…

The first time I ever heard of MSK was today in my urologist’s office. He actually didn’t tell me the name of MSK but described what he thinks could be wrong with me and after a miserable night of pain I got online to see what I can learn and came across the name. I am confused and scared but mostly so tired of feeling awful.

I have had a history of kidney stones… at least 60 in the last 6 years without any doctor being able to find a cause for them. I have chronic pain even when the doctors say my kidneys shouldn’t hurt. Many times I’ve gone to the doctor complaining of kidney pain and they do tests that reveal stones in the kidneys but they say I shouldn’t be in pain because the stones are in the kidneys instead of the ureter tubes and send me home. Well regardless of whether its SUPPOSED to hurt or not – it hurts!

With the pain comes an unbearable exhaustion. I say that I feel like I’ve been hit by a truck. Sometimes I just cry because its all I can do and I feel so worthless. I own a business and its so hard to run it when I have such a difficult time making plans – I can be fine one minute and in immense pain the next.

I also have a lot of GI issues that I deal with and I don’t know if the pain and diarrhea is caused by the stones or what is going on. I just know that it is excruciating at times and I feel so hopeless.

I had an ultrasound in December that showed bilateral ‘cysts’ in my kidneys and stones in both as well. After that they did x-rays and then an IV dye ct scan. Now that the dr. thinks I have MSK he is having me do the IVP. I am nervous about drinking the citrate solution and I’m nervous about the test and the diagnosis. Do my symptoms sound similar at all to yours? Is there anything you can offer me to make me feel a little less apprehensive about the test and disease? Any help is greatly appreciated!

A year ago in March I had an episode of kidney stones that only lasted for a week of what was intermittent pain never to return again … until possibly now!

With the exception of last night, I have woken up during the night with minor kidney pain which felt like a minor muscle pull, if the kidney had been a muscle that is. In brief the pain was minor and a couple of gulps of water seemed to get rid of the pain.

Please tell me if the stones may be recurring as I await an appointment with the doctor.
I think that the stones were small and that I in no way had the typical-least of all the worst case-of the disease, so my doctor said to watch myself and to report back if things got worse, which they did not.

The pain is centered in my left kidney and I should say that it took a lot more than "a couple of gulps of water" now that I think about your questions more.

I have been having severe itching all over my body, but usually it only occures on my lower back right near my kidneys. I googled Kidney disease and I have found that in the past week, I have had at least 7 of the symptoms associated with Kidney disease. (Sweating, itching, lightheadedness, paler skin, easy bruising, frequent nightime urination, and kidney pain) I had kidney stones in the past and heard they can cause kidney disease as well, if left untreated, as mine have. I also have sharp, sudden pains that occure in the front right above my hip bone. Could this mean kidney disease or could there be a less dramatic diagnoses that I am missing?

I’ve had complication in the past due to my kidney stones, but the worst I’ve ever had was the pain in the mornings. Now I’m showing many other symptoms of something.

Heres the thing, I have a bad kidney already (damaged, deformed, works 32%)
I went to the hospital two days ago from it hurting, pain stated over last weekend and I usually only have kidney pain if i’m passing a stone or a kidney infection. Thing is the hospital told me there was no stone and no infection in the kidney. They gave me percocet for the pain which I have in me now, but this pain is killing me!! Sharp pains too. I have a doctor appointment Thursday (day after tomorrow). Should I want and see the doctor Thursday or go back to the hospital with the chance they tell me nothing and send me home, since i’m not sure if they can do anything, or can they? What would you do?

The title pretty much sums it up!

I was searching around on google and it said a few different things.
My first question, can endometriosis cause rectal pain? And if it does, does the endo have to be on the rectum for it to be painful or can it be on the tissue aroun it?

It also said sometimes your uterus can lay on your rectum and sometimes it said you can have an enlarged uterus causing the pain. Almost everythin the treatment was a hysterectomy or some pretty potent narcotics. I also have really awful kidney pain during menstruation.
I’d really like to avoid a hysterectomy or even a partial hysterectomy because I’m only 18 and dream of having a family everyday. I guess this just really scared me. I also would prefer not to be on narcotics for extende amounts of time.
I’ve tried birth control and it made the pain stop but i really hated te side affects. But would be willing(I guess) to go back on it for a while.
I know I need to get to yhe doctor, I’m trying to just at te moment can’t.

And also, I have kidney stones and IBS and I know I’m being hopeful but is it possible my symptoms are just from that and not endo?

Pixxie chick, I have been having the pain for months. It started as about once a week and pain about a 7. Now I have it every day, sometimes a few times a day and the pain is a 7 to 10, more often on a ten. I feel very hot, a bit nauseous, but no vomiting. Its the type of pain that I can’t get comfortable in any position. By the time I think it’s not going to stop and think of going to the hospital it does stop. From when it first stated until now the time it lasts has increased form a minute or so to sometimes 10-15 minutes.

I went to the emergency room 2 days ago…i thought for sure they would say i had a kidney stone…but they did a CT scan and it showed no stone, they did a urine analysis said i had a urinary tract infection…which reached to my kidneys. muscle pain and internal/kidney pain,, i’m a 14 year old girl and have just found out that i have kidney disease/ disorder… i cant really explain much about it coz i don’t no alot myself yet but i had alot of stones in my kidney and urethra tubes and got them removed my internal surgery (through the bladder ) , i had 2 operations, the second a little over a week ago but because of my condition i still have a lot of stones that they couldn’t remove because they are half in and half out of my kidney, they could drop at any time.

i have been non-active for about 7 weeks now and i am normally very active ( dancer) , but i was wondering, what would be the difference in pain from muscles and pain from a stone that has fallen? i no im in the healing process but would normal healing or musclee pain be

13 days ago, I started having UTI symptoms. I don’t have insurance, so I went to the local acupuncture school and tried herbs for a few days, but it didn’t clear things up. They sent me to a regular clinic, as they found bacteria still in my urine. So, 10 days ago I went to a clinic and was told I had bacteria and blood in my urine and given a week’s worth of macrobid. Some symptoms seemed to get better at first, but then I started getting flank pain and the burning returned. I returned and this time they did a culture and sensitivity test and said they were going to treat it as an early kidney infection. I received two shots of antibiotics and a 14-day course of Bactrim. I have not yet heard the results.
I felt much better at first, but after a day or two started to have some strong, sharp, crampy pains in my extreme lower abdomen, or groin area. The kidney pain is also still there. The crampy pains only lasted about two days and don’t seem to be bothering me anymore. I have some pains on both sides, but not at the same time. Could I actually be suffering from a stone? I swear, I actually feel as if something might be in there, trying to come out, but it could be my imagination, as I have been reading about stones online…
Should my kidney pain have been relieved yet by the Bactrim? I have now been on it for four days, and five days of the macrobid before that, plus the shots…

I’ve had kidney pain, fever, nausea and body shakes for about a week now and have already been to the E.R when the pain first started. I have a bad kidney already it only works 32% and it’s damaged from when I was a kid. The emergency room told me the kidney was swollen and I might have passed a stone but that was it.
I have history of kidney stones and infections. The kidney doctor I went to yesterday told me my urine was fine and therefore no infection then I should be fine. Sent me home no pain pills just an order for a reflux test (VCUG) which I already had like 5 times & it always says I had reflux. I told him I don’t want the test because I already know I have reflux and he told me to be an adult and have it done.. So I will go but i’m dying in pain all day long and it keeps me awake at night.

What is causing my pain!? I am 100% positive it is my right kidney because of my past pains related to the kidney itself. The urinalysis said "trace" for blood, protein & so on.. but not enough to say anything. Why the hell am I hurting! I’m so frustrated my kidney dr blew my off.
Could the fact that it is damaged and doesn’t work well have to do with anything? Oh and my blood work levels for my kidneys are always really low.. whatever that means.

Also where my hairline is in the back of my neck behind my ear i guess, and a few large ones up the side of my neck aligned with my shoulder), Re currant low Grade Fever(no higher than 101 w/out infection),Itchy Skin, Memory Loss,Hair loss, Acne,Bowel Changes,On and Off fatigue, mucus in my stool(for one year at least.More mucus than actual stool on average! SORRY TO BE SO GRAPHIC! The doc’ did not know what was causing it. I was treated for ghiardia and had two severe trips to the ER due to dihydration, abdominal pain, etc. They found a 2.7 mm kidney stone and a week later when I was in ER again with kidney pain chils and sweats, the second cat scan showed no stone so they to passed the stone. I did not feel any pain at all so I was astonished and a little sceptical since I have fibromyalgia. But even after that every time I would get off the antibiotic, kidney pain, chills and sweats returned. When I was on antibiotic again the symptoms disapeared. The urologist said that according to my urine sample I do not have a kidney infection and she was baffled about the effects of the antibiotics. The urologist said that since I had blood and bacteria in my urine during the first ER trip I was having a kidney infection, which went untreated. Although the ER doc felt my lower back which was sore and sent me to the cat scan he failed to diagnose a kidney infection.

About a month ago I was having sharp pains in my kidneys, the right one mostly, and frequent urination. I went to the doctor and they said I had a uti and gave me bactrim and it cleared up. As soon as I was done with the antibiotics the symptoms came back. I lived with it for another week or so, then the kidney pain became severe. I went to the er where they perfomed blood and urine tests, a doctor examined me and they also gave me a CT scan and could find nothing wrong. They said I had no stones or infection, offered me painkillers, which I declined, and sent me home. I have been to two doctors, urgent care, and the ER and I am really at a loss of where to turn next. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? The symptoms are not as severe as they once were, but still are there, also I have been feeling a great amount of fatigue. I am on 3 medications… Zoloft, klonopin (only as needed I rarely take it) those are for anxiety. And I was on Adipex, but stopped taking it two days ago because it seems that all of this started a few weeks after I began taking it and I don’t like how it makes me feel. Are any of these meds related to kidney problems that anyone knows of? All of the doctors I saw were aware of the meds I am on and didn’t say anything, but I am running out of places to turn. Help Please!!!
