About a month ago I was having sharp pains in my kidneys, the right one mostly, and frequent urination. I went to the doctor and they said I had a uti and gave me bactrim and it cleared up. As soon as I was done with the antibiotics the symptoms came back. I lived with it for another week or so, then the kidney pain became severe. I went to the er where they perfomed blood and urine tests, a doctor examined me and they also gave me a CT scan and could find nothing wrong. They said I had no stones or infection, offered me painkillers, which I declined, and sent me home. I have been to two doctors, urgent care, and the ER and I am really at a loss of where to turn next. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? The symptoms are not as severe as they once were, but still are there, also I have been feeling a great amount of fatigue. I am on 3 medications… Zoloft, klonopin (only as needed I rarely take it) those are for anxiety. And I was on Adipex, but stopped taking it two days ago because it seems that all of this started a few weeks after I began taking it and I don’t like how it makes me feel. Are any of these meds related to kidney problems that anyone knows of? All of the doctors I saw were aware of the meds I am on and didn’t say anything, but I am running out of places to turn. Help Please!!!

I’ve had kidney stones since I was 13 due to a side affect of topamax that peppered both kidneys. As of 2 years ago I had stent surgery in right kidney. Nothing but problems with that. But for a year I’ve been stone free. But I just had this right kidney pain, got cat scans and no stones. But my wbc is 18.2, monocytes abs 1.8, neutrophils 85, and neutrophils abs 13.7.
Can you tell me why?

I have had a kidney stone/infection before so I know what kidney pain feels like…

Out of no where today, since I woke up, I’ve been having a dull aching pain in my right kidney? But its more towards the front of my body than the back. I’m having to walk slow and hunched over because of it…and when I went pee, the pain got worse while I was peeing. I’m not having any other symptoms, no fever, no burning when I pee, no weird smelling pee….What could be going on???

I have a history of kidney stones and as of now the docs say that both of my kidneys are full of stones and cysts… I have been having pain that is not unbearable but its very often coming and going. But I am just so exhausted… the exhaustion is far worse than the pain. I am also so thirsty that it’s irritating. Are the exhaustion and thirst related to the kidney pain? I am so tired of feeling awful :/

My husband recently has been reporting pain around his right kidney, extending from his back towards the front of his body and downward. Our first thought was kidney stones, but he has since been to the doctor, who had an ultrasound done and no kidney stones were found. It is definitely possible that he already passed a stone, but the kidney pain has gotten worse since then. It is probably worthwhile to mention that blood was detected in his urine (prompting the ultrasound) but he has no fever or other signs of infection.

They prescribed him hi strength Motrin for 3 days (followed by ‘as needed’) to calm any inflammation. He is on day 3, and the pain has only gotten worse and he says it now extends up his back to his arm and down his leg. Again, no fever or anything but we have no idea what this could be and his doctor won’t be in until Tuesday (she hasn’t really been that much help so far…) Any ideas? I’m worried sick…
Thank you Nicholas but he has no fever and has been suffering from this for a while. I actually had a kidney infection myself so severe that I was hospitalized for 5 days with intravenous antibiotics running a 102 fever…I would think that if it was an infection he would be running a fever by now??

I had severe kidney pain that started last monday. i went to the er and they told me that i had passed a stone but that i had a cyst on that kidney. when i went to the urologist they told me it was not a cyst that it was where my kidney had been swolllen trying to push the stone out. since then it has slowly been dropping. it is now in my bladder. but i am sick of being in pain. i also have a uti. should i seek a second opinion? is it possible that my stone is stuck in my bladder. i cant continue to suffer this much pain. my doc just keeps telling me that it will pass, it will pass, but i heard that it should not take more than 2-3 days to pass it completely. I asked my doctor to blast it, but as usual he said it will pass on its own.

I passed a kidney stone less than four months ago but I heard that once you get one, there’s a good chance you’ll get another. First time I passed it I was under the following circumstances and now that those circumstances occurred again, I had some pain in that region. I am wondering if that was by chance or if it has anything to do with it.. PLEASE HELP:

1) I took a very long bus ride (5 hours) after which I had the kidney pain and then 4 weeks later I passed a small stone. Now after I took another bus for the same duration of time, I had pain in that region

2) Both times I had the pain, it was the night of or the night after some heavy drinking. Does that matter at all (will I have to give up my booze???)

3) On a side note, I love coffee. Does drinking coffee help, hurt, or do nothing?

Thanks for the help in advance!

I have had sever kidney pain for weeks. I went to the hospital, they found a kidney stone and blood in my urine. The kidney stone is lodged in there and is not causing any blockage. Therefore they said it couldn’t be causing me pain. Anyone ever have this happen to them or any ideas about what else could be going on?

I am a very healthy 17 year old, I have no other problems, It is my lower left side of my back(not at all on my right). I have had it for quite some time now about a year and its a dull pain and when I drink more water it goes away. I don’t see how it could be that bad because im healthy and 17. I do take Meds maybe this is contributing. It’s not like im super dehydrated I drink water a bit, but I need extra for it to go away( to the point where I have to go to the bathroom often) theres no burning or anything associated with kidney stones except slight dull pain

Anyhow is this muscle or kidney pain and how to get rid of it?.
And is it bad like I need to see a doctor, I already did and he said it could be a few things and if it got worst to go back but its not really worse it just comes and goes with a dull pain
and last should I sleep in a different position. I sleep on my right but it hurts on my left.(not serious enough that I need pain killers)

Anything apreciated thank you.

Hi. In the last 6 months I have begun having extreme lower back pain, it feels very deep in the tail bone and runs down my legs. Also extreme pain in the kidney area. It comes and goes in waves. It can last any where form 30 seconds to 15 minutes, and has become more frequent and lasting longer. I took a urinalysis strip test a month ago and it showed moderate to high levels of Bilirubin and Leukocytes and protein 30+. My urine is sometimes between tea colour and red and foamy. I’m constantly on painkillers, ibuprofen with codeine, for undiagnosed lower abdominal pain, my doctor said that this wouldn’t be affecting my kidneys and causing pain, he thinks there is nothing he can do fro me! Although I have not had any blood or urine tests or my kidneys checked. This has been going on for so long, I have stated looking for help online, not to self diagnose but to get some ideas of what may be wrong. I don’t feel like my doctor has done enough to say, sorry, I can’t help you. I read the pain in my kidneys could be kidney stones, for anyone who has had them, can the pain from the come and go for months? When I have an episode of the kidney pain, it is definitely a 30 on a scale of 1-10! But I am under the impression that you have an ‘attack’ of them with the pain and then will end up passing the stones or having to have them removed. Can anyone give me any help, advice and understanding please. Thank you.

Okay, on October 1st of 2008 (My 17th birthday) I had very intense kidney pain, which my father concluded was gas, and it went away after an hour helped by a low dose of hydrocodone. On the 17th, I had the same pain, but it was much more intense and the hydrocodone did not help so we went to the emergency room where they diagnosed me with a kidney stone. Well since then, the pain has become more frequent, and now it’s almost every day to every other day and it lasts for hours. I’m prescribed Vicodin for the pain, but it doesn’t seem to help anymore. I’m taking 1010 mg, and it doesn’t really help, so I assume that I’m becoming tolerant to the medicine. Is it normal for someone to have kidney pain this frequently from kidney stones? and should I have them change my medication, would it help? I find that moist heat and pressure sometimes help, does anything else help with the pain? The doctors are doing tests and stuff, but I’m not sure if they’ll be able to do much for me because i’ve read they’re incurable. If you have any advice, I’d really appreciate it.
i’m almost 100 percent sure its not the same stone. I’ve only had two CT scans, but they think they’re different stones, especially since i first started experiencing it almost six months ago..
oh yeah, and I know to avoid foods with a lot of sodium, I try to drink lemonade and acidic drinks to break them up, and i’m seeing a the nephologist later today, thats why I wanted to know a little bit more before going in.

I am feeling right side kidney pain last 2 months. Mostly I feel pain evening time. I check with one doctor and took ultra sound scan and shows one small stone (1.5MM), and using medicine and drinking plenty of water. But at that time I didn’t feel any pain in that area. Now I am feeling pain mostly evening time. What is the reason??. Is this kidney stone or kidney tumer??. i am really afraid. Now what happend to feel pain. if it is stone why i didnt feel pain since 7 yers. Now i am drinking plenty of water. But no reduce pain(mostly evening time). My english is not good. Severe ongoing kidney pain please help!?
I had leukemia when I was a kid. In remission. Extensive chemotherapy for 3 years on and off. Tested for Lupus one year ago due to questionable symptoms. I know not everyone on here is a doctor but I need advice for the time being. My symptoms are severe kidney pain (right side) for AT LEAST one year now. Weird rash on hands-have to itch it with a brush and the skin peels of my fingertips and palms. I cant stand for a long time because my right kidney hurts so bad its debilitating. I know its not a joint/bone problem because I had some arthritis and RA testing done-alls well there. I cant drink soda’s, juices, milk or coffee obviously this causes severe chronic pain. Kidney hurts whenever I have to urinate-which I do as soon as I feel the urge to go. I get nauseated often but dont vomit, and when I wake up in the morning Im in severe pain its hard to even get dressed. Ive read up on the symptoms of kidney disease but I dont want to sound like a hypochondriac to my doctor when I go. Please advise-anyone know anything about these symptoms. And yes, I constantly have kidney stones that pass and regenerate, and my urine is always foul smelling and extremely clouded. Please help-thanks so much.
53 minutes ago – 1 week left to answer.
Additional Details
Also, I always feel like Im thirsty and I always have something to drink with me. I try as often as possible to drink water. I know the pain is kidney pain because I went to the ER and they said I had kidney inflammation. The pain takes m my breath away at points and their are times when I get extremely dizzy and faint.

Good morning,
I want to know what is going on with me. I am having pain in urination, blood, burning sensation, and a feeling of "pulling" when urinating. I have kidney pain often, so no surprise in my kidney mildly hurting. My mom and brother have had extreme kidney stones in the past, but I have never had them.

Is it kidney stones or just some sort of infection?
I wish this pain was from deep penetrating sex, but unfortunately it’s not! :( Also, I am starting to feel very sick to my stomach and I am trying to will away the feeling of vomitting.

I wonder if anybody else has experienced diarrhea with kidney stones? I have had upwards of 40 kidney stones in the past four years but somehow still have no answers as to why my body is producing these or how to relieve them. And i never fail to turn up new symptoms or troubles. I have been having dark urine and a lot of kidney pain lately and I’m sure I have another stone working its way out of my kidney…I have also been suffering from frequent stools and diarrhe and I’m wondering if these can be related? I am so tired of the tummy trouble, that is causing me more discomfort than the actual kidney pain. Can kidney stones cause diarrhea? Even if they are not the most painful stones I’ve had?

I am having severe kidney pain. I went to the Er and they told me that they found a kidney stone but it is lodged and it is not blocking anything and they also said there was blood in urine but there is no sign of infection. He then preceded tell me that this could not be the cause of my pain. Is the doctor right or should I get a second opinion.
