I was on the Atkins diet and I loved it. I ate lots of meat and vegetables. I didn’t miss sweets, and I lost 52 pounds in 6 months without having to work out (although I know I should have been exercising).

I talked to several people who are in the medical field and they were saying that it is unhealthy; that I could develop kidney stones or worse. I got off the diet, and later gained all the weight back plus some. At the time I didn’t have medical insurance, so I couldn’t get checked out by a doctor.

I eventually got insurance and went to the doctor. My doctor said that there was nothing wrong with Atkins as long as I drank plenty of water.

I used to never get sick then I moved to a new state and I feel like i’m sick all of the time! This past month i’ve had two kidney stones that messed me up for a week at a time. Now i feel like I have the flu (nauseous, body aches, fever, chills) I’m always tired ALWAYS. I have low thyroid but i’m on medication for it. I’m dizzy 90% of the time and feel like i’m gonna pass out about as much. I’m so sick of being sick but I don’t have insurance to be going to the doctor to get a bunch of tests done. I’m wondering if maybe it’s a diet problem…I don’t eat the healthiest (constantly on the go) but i’m not overweight. I usually eat fish and salads but probably get mcdonalds a couple times a week when ‘m on my way to class. Oh and i get migraines but i’ve always had those. Anyway does this sound like anything or am i just a hypochondriac lol.

I’ve began to pass some kidney stones at home, I’ve read up on what types of treatment and tests you might get at the doctor-often it seems like they just diagnose you and then tell you to wait it out. I don’t have health insurance, and I’m seriously considering waiting it out without the help of a doctor. Besides misdiagnosis, what kinds of risks would I face if say, not all of them were able to pass?
I’m looking for answers from people with some kind of experience, no scare tactics please.

it cause you to sleep a lot too ?
Its actually my Mom who is suffering right now. She thinks she passed a stone at work yesterday, and she pretty much did a 180 and was wide awake for half of today when she has been sleeping a lot. I should have mentioned that she is an insulin diabetic and her sugar has been running really high most of this past week, like 500 high and now she has it stable at 250 give or take.
Well the last time she had a kidney stone "attack" her sugar was out of control. But never this bad. She does not have a doctor (No health Ins.) but she said she will be going to the E.R. tonight and hopefully they can help her.
My mother was just admited to the hospital with sever kidney infection. They have her on pain killers and I am assuming a strong antibiotic. They said that they should be able to clear out the infection, but if it doesn’t clear out she might have to dialysis. I tried to get her to go Friday night to the hospital but she kept holding it off because of no insurance, but I hope it is not too late for her.

I’m reposting this for more opinions, since I posted really late before. I’ve had a stinging sensation, for awhile now, while I urinate. It only stings at the start of urination and sometimes a few seconds longer. It started when I wasn’t sexually active, for atleast 2 years and didn’t lose virginity until last week. Condom was used.

Symptoms:
-Stinging sensation at start of urination
-Testicles tend to ache time to time
-There is no discharge whatsoever
-Recently, not sure if related, lower abdimal aches along with a slight ache going down the outside of my right or left thigh
-Stingy feeling, under the head, when squeezed a bit

Note:
-I wasn’t really hygienic until recently
-I’ve had an itchy scrotum, since like puberty I think
-I rarely drank water
-As far as I know I am diabetic.
-After having sex, for first time, the day after my penis "stung" for a day or so

I’ve been thinking it’s anything from a STD(but I wasnt sexually active when it started), UTI, to like a kidney stone
I also have no health insurance or money to afford going to get checked out. Any suggestions as to where I could go or do? I’m working on getting health insurance, soon, with a new job.

I started taking tramadol to help with the pain. Not very useful. Ive gone to the doctor and taken tests to be sure its not an infection. Emergency room told me it was "Probably" kidney stones. A week has passed and I haven’t passed anything. Otherwise no doctor can give me a solid answer. Any thoughts?
The only test that was done was on my urine to test if I had elevated blood levels. The docs in the ER wanted to do a catscan but since I dont have health insurance I opted just to wait and pass the stones if thats what it truly was. At this point, I doubt it. I drink plenty of fluids every day. No caffiene. Since the pain is only on my right side, i doubt its an infection. Its funny though, because Im a server on my feet for a long time and I dont feel the pain when Im standing. Only sitting or laying.

Say you see a pain management doctor (in Alabama) and you’re legit, not a junkie, and he writes you a Rx for XYZ. Then you go see an urologist and he writes you the same Rx for your kidney stones that your pain management doctor writes. Minus all the insurance stuff, is there an actual way for the pain management doctor to see that your urologist wrote you that same Rx? I don’t want to get in trouble here.

I have had 4 c sections after my 3 child I was in and out of the doctors office because I would have these painful cramps and pains in my lower abdomin, I would have 2 or 3 periods a month that lasted about 3 to 4 days each. Each time the doctor could not help me. After about a year I passed a gal-stone(not sure the spelling), but then I had my last child and now it has been 7 months and I am starting to have the period problem again, lately I have this pressure to the back of my head and the top of my neck, it feels as if my neck needs to pop, but doesn’t. I have constant head aches. I am always so tired, no matter how much sleep I get. I feel weak, The other day I was sitting with my baby and I got light headed and it felt like all my breath was getting sucked out of my mouth, i had this heavy feeling in my chest and everything turned white. I then have felt the breath problem a few times since. But I woke up this morning and I have this pain in my left kidney area, it is just becoming duller and duller pain, which is bothersome. If I take a deep breath then I feel a pressure in that area and it’ll pop my lower ribs. I don’t know if these symptoms go all together. But I don’t have insurance to go into the doctor several times to get examined, I’d just like some advice from people who might have had these experiences or know something about them. Thank you everyone.
Has anyone gone through this problem and been diagnosed?

my husband went in several months ago to the ER (he was in extreme pain)for a colon issue and got a cat scan. They found no problems with his digestive system or anything in the cat scan..they told him he should see a gastroenterologist . So he did a few mths later (after insurance had kicked in) and the results oft the cat scan were faxed to the gastroenterologist(sp?) and they told my husband that the cat scan showed that he had kidney stones…

The hospital said NOTHING about kidney stones!! Isn’t it there job to tell him if something was wrong!?!

Someone said that because thats not what he went in for that they didnt HAVE to tell him about it…

The gastroenterologist said the kidney stones shouldn’t get any worse if my hubby changes his diet. so they aren’t an immediate threat. But he could have been working on fixing it MONTHS ago!!

Am I wrong…but I think they should have told him!! Can I get the in trouble for that!?! lol

I am quite sure I have a kidney infection: fever of 100 for 2 days, awful lower back aches (walking hurts a lot despite being 24 and in good shape), chills, nausea, headache, stiffness and peeing blood. This is the 3rd instance of this in 20 months…the 1st two times I went to the ER, was told it was probably kidney stones, and instead it ended up being combo uti and kidney infection. I got percocet, morphine, and promethazine for pain/nausea…not worth the collections calls from not affording my visits. I was peeing blood yesterday and today, but since about ten hours ago I have not been able to urinate at all despite drinking 4 big glasses of water and an entire bottle of cranberry juice. My back hurts and I am dizzy, but I don’t want pain pills. What should I do? I don’t have insurance.

Every time my wife gets her period she ends up on the floor screaming of pain. since she was 12 she’s been visiting doctors but no one seems to care but for the money. as a matter of fact, we once called a doctor’s office for the results of some exams and all they asked us if we had insurance, once we said no they said "oh… then she has nothing." and they hanged up. she’s been to the hospital too and they always send her an external sonogram and send her home with the sentence "there’s nothing else we can do, go home" and the sonograms always comes back normal. we recently went to a doctor that was one of the best gynecologists that exist and sent her an external and internal sonogram, but she also made blood tests… we have no insurance, no money for gynecologists anymore, and all doctors want is money but they don’t solve any problem, we got the receipt for the blood tests and it came for almost 800 dollars, thankfully they lowered it to 170 but we never had they time to take the internal sonogram. i want my wife to take the internal sonogram but have no money to pay the doctors cause im out of work, my wife is taking care of the bills for now, im trying to find a good job but there’s nothing… No doctor has given us any name for the problem, they havent made a diagnosis, they just dont help and about a year ago she got a big ball, some kind of inflamation between her urethra and her vagina. we went to a urologist and told them that she peed blood and about the ball but all he said that he wanted to concentrate on kidney stones (which she doesn’t have) and that the gyn had to take care of the ball and the gyn said the urologist had to take care of it. what do you think we have to do to find a good doctor? i mean, im Colombian and in my country they rarely send you a test but just by giving them your synthoms and MAYBE once in a while a blood test they tell you exactly what you have and they cure you. In here all they want is money and they dont solve anything, 12 years and no answer. Where can i find a good urogynecologist that would REALLY care and help us solve this? is it posible that she has endometriosis?
By the way, she’s taken ALL KINDS of pain killer… im not talking advil and aleve, im talking vicodin and other narcotics and they don’t even do anything anymore.

I recently went for my annual pap, my urine sample showed a trace of blood. They sent me to a Urologist for further testing. When the Urologist did a urine sample, blood was present at a level 1 (4 being the worst). I was sent to the hospital for an x-ray to see if it’s a kidney stone, nothing showed. He "felt around" and didn’t find any lumps, says he doesn’t think it’s any kind of growth because I’m 29 and a non-smoker. Now he wants to run another test, which involves running a tube up to my bladder to see if anything is going on. My only symptom is that a urinate a little more frequently than usual. The problem is I don’t have any insurance, and these office visits and tests are ridiculous costs. What should I do, keep going or just forget it? Any kinds of natural cures for clearing out your urine stream?

So I was on antibiotics for a urinary tract infection. It made my poop hurt my butt and kind of cut the outside of my I guess butthole and after I stoped taking the antibiotics I feel like that cut feeling moved to my vagina area.

And it feels like a yeast infection. What should I do???

I spent all my money on the doctor and I don’t have health insurance.

Has this ever happened to you? Is that normal?

I get Kidney Stones. I’m a 24 year old female. My first stone was when I was 18 years old. I believe in the left kidney, if I am remembering correctly. If anyone reading this has ever had them, then you know they’re excruciating! :( At that time, I had insurance (I live in the state of PA so I was covered under some PA insurance for children called CHIP.) so, I went to the local ER. Determined I had one small stone. It was a couple millimeters. They said to drink TONS of water and try to catch it, and gave me Percocet for the pain. I ended up passing the stone after about 2 days. But, was unable to catch it, so I don’t know what causes my stones. I currently have no health insurance and no money to pay for doctors and such, and visits to the ER are very expensive here.

Back in December I got the same pain I get from a Kidney Stone in my right kidney. Went to the ER, they didn’t do much for me, since I have no way to pay. They give you very minimal treatment if you can’t pay. They basically just gave me a prescription for Vicodin and 800mg of Ibuprofen tablets. I had pain off and on for about a week, eventually, it just stopped. I never did pass the stone though, I’m sure of that. Then about a week ago, I started getting really bad pain in my left kidney. So, I guess I have a new stone in there. I had some Vicodin left from December. But, I used all that. Now all I have is the Ibuprofen. It doesn’t really work. I should go to the ER when I get pain again, but I am tired of racking up huge bills that I can’t pay. Not to mention, they usually just give Vicodin for the pain (which no longer works on me) and if I ask for something else it might just look like I only want the drugs. So, I’m trying not to go to the ER unless I really have to. Thankfully, today has been pain free. I hope it stays that way. But, I’m sure I didn’t pass the stone. As far as I know, I have at least one in each kidney.

So, what I am wondering, does anyone know any real (and SAFE) natural remedies that can help break up/dissolve kidney stones? I’ve been reading up online about all this stuff, I read that Apple Cider Vinegar mixed with some warm water is supposed to help certain kinds of kidney stones. I don’t know what mine are from though or if the ACV solution will help. But, I started trying it last night. I also read Lemon Juice with Olive Oil helps, but there is no way I am trying that one. That sounds horrible. I am just barely managing the ACV. I also read Lemon Juice with water helps. I might be able to try that one. They’re the only ones I know though.

So, please, if anyone knows any other safe, natural home remedies I can try that would help break up/dissolve my stones, that’d be great. Also, for those familiar with the remedies I already mentioned, does anyone know if they’re good for all kinds of kidney stones? Or, only certain kinds? And, which kinds are these remedies good for? Sorry for this being so long and informational, I just wanted to be as specific as possible about my history in case it helps. I’m just desperate to try to get rid of these stones and get some relief. Please, honest and thoughtful answers only!

I am not able to get an appointment in for months. I dont have insurance or medicad so I go to the health dept. But they aren’t able to see my for months. My urinary tract infection began yesterday or at least that’s when I started to feel the symptoms. I only drink water already and I cut sweets out of my diet about three days ago. I need advice on how to get rid of the infection without antibiotics.

If you change you diet to low oxalate foods and drink juices high in citrate like lemon juice or lemon aid. can a kidney stone dissolve over time and just disappear? one dr. says no another says yes. who is right? i have a 5mm stone stuck in my ureter and 6 smaller ones in my kidney. The dr. wants to let it pass on its own but i don’t think its moving. it has been two weeks. pain remains in the same place. i am worried about the 6 stones that are still in the kidney. x-ray only shows one 2mm stone 4 inches above the bladder. and no ware else. ct scan dose not show any stone near bladder and one 5 mm stone 4 inched below the kidney and 6 more in the kidney itself grouped in an area a 3mm x 8mm the stones them selves are 2mm or less. i don’t have insurance and im unemployed. so i cant afford any kind of surgery. if i stick to my strict diet will stones go away or will i have to painfully pass every last one of them?

I’m going to keep this as short as possible.
I have to urinate on average about 20 times a day. Sometimes, a lot more. It hits me every 30 minutes (Yellow Urine). Sometimes it flares up and its every 10 minutes (Clear Urine).
Majority of the time it is clear like water and its accompanied by a weak flow. Whenever anything involves having an errection (Sex,Masturbation, and w/else) I have to go every 5 minutes and is always clear. It is very annoying as you can imagine. Theres no pain or any other symptoms… Just constant urination. Now I used to drink pop like no tomorrow. When I quit and started drinking water it started around that time. I have been to a doctor that did a urine/blood test and the blood test came back negative for anything and the urine test showed I have high acidic levels in my urine which may be kidney stones. I don’t have any symptoms for kidney stones.

I am 18 with no insurance, going to college soon and I need to know if anyone knows what this could be.

Can eating a lot of chocolate cause a kidney stone? I drink a lot of water and no dark soda but I have a horrible diet (candy, greasy food, junk food..) Can this be the reason I have one or is it something else? Also do they have anything that can break one up to help you pass it? I was in the hospital Monday morning and they told me I have a 6mm stone which I found out is about as big as they get, but they just told me I could have surgery or go home with pain meds. I chose to go home but now I think I’m going to end up back in the hospital with the same agonizing pain and have to have surgery anyway. What is the likelihood I will pass it on my own? It still hurts…not as bad, but getting worse again by the day. I wish they would have gave me more info when I was in there.
also I have no insurance, so a follow up with a urologist is not possible. I don’t have the amount of money they want up front.

Went to the emergency room. They say i MAY have an infection, they gave me cipro. They say i MAY have stones (did a CAT scan). Gave me 15 vicodin and told me to pass it. It’s been 5 days, i’m still having the same pains, and i’m almost out of vicodin. I dont’ have insurance to keep going back and forth to the doctors. Stones are in my family, so i’m sure this is what it is….feels like a kidney infection, which i’ve had before, but 100X worse…i just dont know if i’ve passed it, what’s the normal time it takes to pass one, is there certain things i should be doing (already drinking a million glasses of water)…no pain when i urinate, nothing. How do you know when a stone is not gonna pass on it’s own, and you need to have surgery??
