We live in Hawaii. My husband was seen at the ER August 14th because he couldnt urinate or pass bowels. They did bloodwork on him & gave him pain meds, was going to send him home. When I inquired about the cause, he told us that "if you want, I can send you to the other ER & they can do a CT scan, but you’re going to have to wait long time".

At the 2nd ER, the dr examined my husbands penis & balls. He told us all the bloodwork came back normal & was about to send us home. I insisted that we came there for a CT scan. SO, they finally gave him a CT scan & found a kidney stone & a what appears to be a rectal mass. The dr & nurse explained that sometimes stuff shows up on a CT scan that isnt actually there so he could have cancer, but it could be nothing,& make sure he follows up w/his regular dr & see a specialist. After we informed the dr that my husband didnt have a regular dr established, he recommended us to a dr, who we thought was going to be a specialist. When we called to get an appointment, we discovered that it was an internal medicine dr & to see him, we would have to change our PCP to that dr who is 25 miles away from us. So since that dr wasnt a specialist, we opted to see a PCP that is closer to us, so that whenever my husband needed to see the PCP, it was close (we have QUEST HMSA medical insurance & no cash since my husband is out of work).

We went to Waianae Coast Comprehensive Center & seen DR. LIAO. Worst experience EVER. We could barely understand anything he said when he asked us what ER we went to & what he was seeing my husband for, told my husband he had to lotion & lose weight, then without looking at his paperwork from the ER that I gave him, he left the room. Then the nurse came in & told us to come back in a month for recheck. When I asked the nurse why in one month, she said for recheck. I told her the dr didnt look at his paperwork & explained my husband was in alot of pain & needed to see the specialist right away. She asked me what type of insurance we had & when I told her Quest, she made a face and told me thats why we had to wait a long time. SO naturally my voice raised when I insisted they refer my husband to a specialist immediately & thats when the dr started yelling at us from another examining room to go see another Dr if you dont like it!

We then had to find another PCP. He referred us out to a specialist. We drove there & my husband said that the specialist came in & told my husband that our dr referred him to the wrong specialist, & wrote down information for the urologist. He did not even look at the image of the CT scan or examine my husband. 3 days later, my husband passed a BM with lots of bright red blood. I took him to his Dr & he immediately send us to the emergency room (another different one, not the 1st 2 that we went to). At the emergency room, they gave him pain medication, took a urine sample, & informed us that there was nothing about a rectal mass in my husbands record from the ER. They gave him instructions to follow up w/his PCP & the urologist for his kidney stones and did not examine him or get a sample of his stool. When I asked about what we should do about the rectal mass, they said I dont know. Its weird and confusing because it doesnt say anything about a rectal mass in his report. BUT HE HAS BLOOD IN HIS STOOL! We were then told it could just be from a hemmoroid. Physically & emotionally exhausted & defeated, we went home.

We went back to my husbands PCP the next morning & explained everything that happened w/the specialist & the ER, & the Dr shook his head & then told us to follow up w/the urologist & see if the urologist. When I asked about the rectal mass, they said the urologist can help us because shes a urologist.

I called the ER that told us about the rectal mass & explained everything and they said they cant discuss anything over the phone, but EVERYTHING should be in the report. They wouldnt let me talk to the dr because they said that he couldnt discuss patient info over the phone. They wouldnt tell me his schedule either. I called our medical insurance & they told me to follow up w/the PCP or change PCPs or get a 2nd opinion. We did but because the possible rectal mass is not noted in the report, no one has examined him.

My husbands TDI is pending & no savings. I need to complete a 3 wk class in order to get assistance. BUT I have no cash, bus pass, or gas or family to help. I called the welfare worker & explained our situation & she said there is no way around it, I have to comply w/the class 1st. So I have no childcare & no $ or transportation. We used the pay from my husbands last check to pay our rent & put gas in the car. Now its gone. My phones going to get turned off soon along w/my internet. So then, I wont even be able to call or email!

I dont know what to do about anything. Any positive, educational answers would be greatly appreciated. Please no personal rude comments. I have enough

He had to go through several blood and urine tests, a painful STD test, and a CT scan where they were finally found. He has 2 stones in one kidney and the urologist said they will be painful but will pass on their own. Now comes the question. He has been in a lot of pain as they have been passing but it has subsided now, which the doctor says means it is moving. Now my son starts school on Tues., and is very worried. He often pees blood, has frequent urges to urinate, and has on one ocassion wet himself, as well as been in so much pain he must lay down and is moaning. He is a popular boy, on the football team, and he is very worried about dealing with these issues in school. As a mother it is a tough decision. He and I both dont want him to miss his first days of junior year, he doesn’t mostly because of missing football and explaining to his friends. Now any suggestions for him to deal in school? I suggested wearing a pad incase of blood or accidents but he says no, anyone think that is a good idea? Additionaly he is VERY scared about peeing out the stone, especially if it happens at school. I know it will be painful but what will it be like, will he scream, cry, pass out? I am so worried for my boy and so is he. What should he do about school and how to manage? Thank you all so much.
PS, Also how can he bring the strainer to the bathroom?

Yesterday I took an 89 year old man to his cardiologist appointment and he arrived at the office with intense pain in his lower sternum. The cardiologist immediately examined his aorta because he was concerned that pain in that area could possibly be his aorta. But the doctor ended up telling him he should go to the ER next door because he was in too much pain.

We spent the whole day there, 8 hours to be exact. They did many lab tests, blood, urine, CT scan of abdominum with contrast, ultra sound of aorta, chest x-ray, EKG, all of which came back fine. For awhile, his blood pressure dipped super low, 90/45, which in the past has always happened when he had an infection. No infection in his lab work though. I am baffled!

I’ve been his caretaker for 5 years and he has never had such an acute attack of pain like that. Blood work said everything was fine. The pain seemed to travel down from his sternum to his abdominum, and then back again. Could it be kidney stones? Would the lab work have shown if he had kidney stones? Is there something they could have missed?

Usually your blood pressure will increase with pain, but his dropped very low, considering his appointment with the cardiologist was for high blood pressure, which was increasing in spite of being on three different blood pressure medications. Any insight would be appreciated. They were very packed at the ER yesterday, and sometimes ER’s are not the best place to get a diagnosis of some kind of disease.

I had a large kidney stone 8mm, several years ago. Now I have passed 8 stones, then had a ct scan, and they have found I have at least 4 more. Why? I have never heard of anyone having so many!!

I am a 29 year old male who has a muscular athletic build. I lift weights and exercise on a pretty regular basis. The past 4 days I have been under an extreme amount of stress. Ive had chest pains and my left kidney felt to have pressure on it. I also noticed that my urination was over %50 reduced and darker. I started freaking out majorly and my fiance(and I) decided it was best I go to the ER. I went to the ER and my blood pressure was elevated along with my pulse over 120bpm. I was seriously freaking out and could not calm down. I had a few panic attacks the days prior and nothing I did could calm myself down. I was convinced I was dieing.

They took a urine sample from me that was not much and slightly dark, not bloody just darker than normal. They also took 2 things of blood and ran tests on it. They pretty much told me up front that they thought I was dehydrated and seriously stressed out way to much but I was not convinced of that and I had to know that something was wrong with me. I was having chest pains the past few days, high heart rate, short of breath, along with not going to the bathroom much at all…..scary.

Furthermore the Dr. ordered a CT scan to be performed to look over my kidneys for stones, tumors.

Well after everything she came back in and told me that the CT scan showed no stones, tumors and they were regular size. They could find nothing wrong at all. Also my blood results came back normal and urine came back. The only thing she told me is that my creatinine level was a little higher than it should be. It was at a 1.4. She told me it was only .1 above a normal level and that it could be caused because she felt I was very dehyrated. I also read that muscular younger people will have slightly higher than normal levels of creatinine because it has to do with muscle repair. Regardless she told me to see a dr just to make sure there is not a problem that may be starting.

I felt really good after this and immediatly I felt 10x better than I was. I am still slightly concerned something is wrong. I have felt a few chest pains still and after I got home yesterday I drunk a TON of water. I am talking probably much more than I should. I had to go to the bathroom normally after 4-5 days around 4 times and it was a lot each time and looked normal. I woke up this morning and my lower back region felt kinda achy, sore….not really sure how to explain it. I am also still having some pressure on my left side. Could all this be still caused by stress?

I am going to the dr. soon as I get an appointment to go see him. Should I be really concerned?

I’m a single mom alone with my kids and about 30 minutes my back suddenly gave out. I started feeling intense pressure and burning in my mid back area. I went to lay down. I got up to try and see if it would go away and I had to lay on the floor for a few minutes and crawl back to bed. I don’t have a fever but if I move I feel the pain.

I don’t know if I need to call 911 or wait it out. My doctor told me last week I have kidney stones from the ct scan they need but I’ve never experienced any pain from it that I know of. I was just fine this morning.
I paged my doctor and she thought it was a back spasm. She told me to take a muscle relaxer and some Ibuprofen. Thankfully I still had a muscle relaxer. I took a nap and now I am able to at least get up and walk. I still feel sore and pain but nothing like before.

My kidney stone is near my bladder according to a CT scan, but my back (the area where my kidneys are) and underneath my left ribcage still hurt. Why is that? It’s severe pain too. Is it spasms?

I have been straining my urine for about 3 weeks now and have not found any stones. There were small pieces of bloody tissue…i assume from the stone moving. Is that normal and when should i pass this stone, Like i said it has moved what feels like as far as it can without coming out. the pain comes and goes throughout the day but it is just dull pain. When i try to pee i get a really sharp pain, it takes my breath away and makes me want to scream. I have tried everything. drinking lots of water but it doesn’t seem to be helping.
I woke up yesterday morning and the pain was so bad i could not walk. My boyfriend took me to the hospital and they did a CT scan. As far as they can tell I have a kidney stone lodged where my uiter enters my bladder. I have been advised to wait it out…I am going next week for a second opinion. I don’t see how the Doctors expect me to be able to work with this pain. They did give me pain medicine but as she was writing the prescription she said " this is going to get alot worse before it gets better" Ill keep you posted thanks for the help.

I was act the dr. a while back and after a ct scan was informed that I have a small kidney stone and an ovarian cyst. I was told to get the cyst checked out by a gyno so they could do a ultrasound for it. I haven’t done that yet. (appointment is in 2 weeks) I have been taking vicodin for the pain, but the last few days, I have been having really thick, reddish-brown discharge (not my period) does this sound like I need to go back to the dr. again, or is this just something thats going on because of the kidney stone? How long does it take for a stone to pass?
Thank you.

So my dads foot and leg starting changing color and going numb on Aug.31. Took an ambulance to the hospital where they did a CT scan and discovered he has 2 aneurysms 1 smaller one in his stomach and a larger one in the abdomen. He was told to the larger one has to be completely removed and to go for surgery the next day but my father refused, he was told he could die and may have to wait a cpl months before another chance at surgery but still opted to go home. He was told no strenuous activity at all, but my father an avid exerciser is still going on his walker each morning and stops when his leg cramps up which is also leading to his feet changing color but once again returning to "normal". Now he’s insisting on waiting to see his family dr on Sept.9 to discuss alternate options for surgery, he’s convinced that he didn’t need to hop straight into emergency surgery bc his leg returned to normal and he feels fine. He had a heart attack last year but the surgeon opted the medicinal route instead of bypass, so he does have clogged arteries and high blood pressure. I’m assuming with his age and heart conditions for the surgeon to want to do emergency surgery, which in itself is a risk i think, that his aneurysm must be serious? Just wondering professional opinions on my dads chances? Do you think its about the rupture with his feet acting the way they are? I live a cpl provinces away so was not able to question the surgeon myself or hear what he had to say. Don’t know if this helps but i read symptoms are abdominal pain which he has been having for I’d say about 6 months now but just assumed it was one of his heart medications or his dr told him it was most likely kidney stones. Chances of surviving till surgery if or when or even making it out of surgery itself? Sorry for the lengthy post and tia for any responses.

So doctors thought i had PID (Pelvic Inflammatory Disease). They did a pelvic exam and found i had no STD which can cause PID. They also did a CT scan and found no inflamation in my pelvic area. Does this mean i can stop thinking i have this disease????? I also have a small ovarian cyst and 2 kidney stones, a bladder infection and fluid behind my uterus.

I went to the doctor for pain around my right kidney. I thought it was a kidney stone. They tested for it, that was not what I have. They sent me to the hospital for a CT Scan (at this point vomiting is occuring). CT Scan came back as a ruptured ovarian cyst. Blood Test came back with higher than normal white blood cells. Doctor hospitalized me until the white lood cells become normal amount, then sent me home with lots of pain meds. They did an ultra sound on my abdomen. Nothing abnormal. Any suggestions? Pain is severe, I wake up in tears from the pain.

I have had flank pain for over a month now. CT scan just shows a kidney stone in the kidney and the Dr.says it shouldn’t cause pain. But it is not my imagination, it hurts in the area of my kidney. The Dr. just wants to give me antibiotics even though the urinalysis was clean. Just wondering if anyone has heard of this causing pain or is the Dr. right?

im 16 and im a regular patient at great ormaod street children’s hospital for my kidneys, i have nephrocalcinosis in both kidneys which causes pain and stones. for the past few months iv been in and out of extreme agony really, so iv been back and forward to gosh having ultrasounds and on each one it showed nothing that could be causing the pain. so they sent me for a ct scan about 4 weeks ago and they called us up about a week ago saying there is something on my left side which COULD be causing the pain, were gonna discuss it fully at an appointment iv got tomorrow. but i was just wondering if there is a stone do you think they ll remove it via lazer or by actually going up there? iv had of these kind of ops before and each time they’ve actually gone up like,my wee hole lol. but atm im on my period so do you think theyll make me wait until iv come off or what? thankssss

I’ve had this weird lower back pain for years that comes and goes. The best way to describe it is an aching throb that’s accompanied with a tingle that’s almost like a burning sensation. I’ve been examined by many physicians, all of whom have never found anything (although I don’t think I’ve ever had an X-Ray/MRI/CT Scan/anything along those lines…it’s pretty much just been the standard bloodwork and urine tests to make sure it’s not kidney stones or anything). Over the past year, however this pain has intensified greatly, and it’s accompanied with spasms and sometimes these spasms even send pain that shoots down my legs and makes my legs spasm too. I can’t get comfortable, no matter if I sit, stand, lay down or curl up in a ball; the only thing that will occasionally offer minor relief (depending on the severity of the pain) is if I arch my lower back in a way that tucks my tailbone in, as if I’m trying to crack something or put something back into place. I can take painkillers and muscle relaxers, put on a heating pad and NOTHING seems to work (although I will take Vicodin sometimes and that seems to alleviate some of the pain for no more than an hour). The pain will intensify with menstrual cramps and randomly sometimes I’ll even have REALLY sharp pelvic pains for no reason at all (not necessarily during menstruation); the pain gets SO BAD that all I can do is curl up in a ball, hug a pillow as tight as I can and cry (although that doesn’t really help either).

The only back pain I’ve ever had aside from this is my trigger point (that I injured about 8 years ago and STILL has issues, even after physical therapy), but that’s way up there by my shoulder blade, so I don’t think they’re related (I wish I could go see the same doctor who diagnosed that, but he’s no longer in practice). The lower back pain is 100000000x worse than that trigger point pain and the pelvic pain is crippling (it will literally bring me to my knees if I’m standing). I’ve done some internet research, and the only thing I can thing of is sciatica, but I’m clueless as to what the pelvic pain could be…PCOS, maybe? Endometriosis? What do y’all think? Has anyone ever experienced this before? If so, what do you recommend I do to get some relief until I can go see a specialist? Are there any specific tests I should be asking for in order to be diagnosed? I’m miserable…In my early 20s and falling apart. UGH!

Thanks in advance for your answers!
BTW, the lower back pain isn’t on one side or the other…sometimes it’s on the left, sometimes it’s on the right and sometimes it spans the entire length of my lower back. At this very moment, it’s all over…but I just had a bit of a spasm on my left side, even though it was on the right not long ago. I’m a HOT MESS!!!!

I am a 23 year old female with 2 kids I went to the hospital early friday morning after being woke up at 1 20 am with crazy pain in my side back and tummy. I knew it was my kidneys cause I had a problem with them when I was pregnant with my daughter, however when I was preg with my daughter they could not do anything about them cause I was preg and after I delivered I had no issues so all was forgotten well after my daughter I have had one more child since and no issues untill now. I went to the ER and they did a CT scan and found 3 small and 1 12mm stone in my left kidney and a small stone in my right. However the large stone in my left kidney was stuck at the bottom of my kidney and causing damage to my kidney as I could not pass urine. They did the laser stone removal an placed a stent in that surgery was finished at midnight friday leading into sat, they sent me home saterday afternoon, and told me the blood in my urine would be less and less over the next day and would start to be orange coloured instead of bright red well it is not bright red anymore it is dark red and they did not send me home with any pain killers and asprin or anything else are just taking the edge off. I have to go see the Urologist on wen afternoon but I am not sure if I should go to a clinic or try to get into my doc tomorrow or even go back to the hospital before that, it just still seems like alot of blood. anyone have any advice or had this themselves????

So exactly a week ago I had this awful pain in my side and I held off for like 2 hours but had to go to the ER. So they did a CT scan and they said it was a kidney stone traveling through the narrowest part of my urinary track. So they gave me pain killers and sent me on my way. Well i’m here now and I’m having some familiar pains in my side and not sure if the stone had passed yet but it had been a week and i have been urinating very often haha. Any ideas on what might be causing the pain or if the stone is still in there?

I’ve had two chest x-rays, one abdominal x-ray, and a ct scan within the last 3 months. My urologist wants another abdominal. x-ray in 2 weeks, plus he may want an IV contrast scan if I can’t flush my kidney stones out. With different Dr’s requesting all of this I’m afraid they might not take into consideration how much radiation I’m receiving.

i was in the hospital friday and went through a CT scan, A CAT scan and a sonogram but they found nothing. I was diagnosed either with a bowel obstruction or a kidney stone. Today I was pooping and I passed a 10 inch long bloody mucus membrane along with my feces. Is that bad? Does it indicate a specific problem? Please help me

So last Saturday I noticed that i had frequent urination, burning, pressure in my bladder, sharp stabbing pain in my bladder. I knew it was a Urinary Tract Infection, I called ‘Teledoc’ (it’s a doctor who can prescribe antibiotics) He prescribed me Macrobid, twice a day until they are gone and Pyridium for the burning. I instantly started taking the antibiotic. The next day it seemed worse but i just let it pass. On that Monday it was even worse, pain in my bladder was horrible, On Tuesday i ended up going to my obgyn (so he could also check my IUD for my endometriosis) and yes he checked me for STD’S. He gave me Cipro for the infection and a pain medication. The pain medication didn’t work very well but it made it easier to deal with. Now 5 days later and my antibiotic is all gone, it still is here worse then it was when it started, I have of course the normal burning and frequent urination symptoms, My bladder is constantly hurting, I have a weird sharp stabbing pain in my bladder, I am freezing but my skin feels hot and I’m sweating constantly. I’m having some flank pain but not to bad. I have kidney stones and have had them since i was 14, they run in my family. The last time i had a CT scan about 4 months ago, it showed i had 12 stones in my right kidney and 6 in my left. I was so surprised. I have passed about 3 of them since then, Well that i know about. I’m not sure if this is because of my kidney stones by having one stuck in my bladder, or the UTI has moved to my kidneys. I don’t know what to do and don’t know whats wrong!? can someone please at least give me an idea of what it might be, cause i know i only will find out if i get checked out by a doctor but just need to know what to do?

Last year a CT scan showed I had 3 kidney stones which were expected to be small enough to pass without any intervention. This past week I have had a terrible heaviness deep into my groin. I have pain when I urinate and a massive bladder spasm sensation which is a 10/10 pain while it is in spasm (30 minutes or so) but then completely pain free when it releases. It is a generally severe pain and I have to take hydrocodone for it to go away and Azo to numb the urinary tract.

I went to my doctor and the urinalysis showed positive albumin and nitrites with 3+ blood and 3+ white blood cells and a bright yellow urine.

I am wondering if this could be a bladder stone. It FEELS like a bladder stone. The CT scan that they did last year did not go low enough to image the bladder, just the kidneys.

Anyone with expertise have any ideas?

I am about to faint from the pain. Maybe I should just bail and go home. I had a CT scan this morning. It is a really crucial time for me at work right now and don’t want to miss anymore work because of these stupid stones. This will be # 5 in as many months.

I have multiple kidney stones seen on a CT scan and x rays. The pain was unbearable for 3 days but since then the pain has not returned (it has been 6 days total)
I have not seen any stones when I go to the bathroom so I’m confused.
Why has the pain stopped if the stones haven’t passed?
Did I miss it? I strain every time I go.
