I heard that calcium can do a lot for your hair, and someone told me that it can prevent or put off a current hairline.
Most of the men on my dad’s side of the family have had baldness to some extent.
No one on my mother’s side of the family has had hairloss including my grandfather who didn’t seem to lose any hair until he died in his mid-70’s.
I have an average amount of body hair, maybe a little more. I have hairy legs and a unibrow if I don’t shave it, but everything else seems about average for my age.
I have a lot of calcium in my body, so much so that I have been prone to getting kidney stones since I was in 5th grade. I think this is why my bones and teeth are so strong.
So, with the information given, do you think I’ll end up bald or with significant hairloss?
Maybe I should mention that I’m 15 and have a straight hairline. It goes back very little on the sides, a bit less of a recede than I see on most other guys.
I would also like to ask when you think they’ll have a cure for baldness.
I also have hair like my maturnal grandfather. We both have the same color hair and it’s wavy in pretty much the same places.

Ok so I have been trying to be really healthy by introducing greens slowly into my diet. But I have been having doubts.

I have done some reasearch and there has been a lot of of research on oxalates in greens. When greens are left at their natural states they are not oxalic acid right? but when they are heated they turn into oxalic acids which bind to calcium increasing risk for kidney stones and eving robbing our bones of calcium.

Do you think if I take 1000mg of Calcium a day it would be better or worse.

I am sooo confused. I literally spent hours tryign to research this but everyone had different opinoions.HELP

in other words, how much soda can i drink before it becomes unhealthy? do nutritionists even allow caffiene as part of a daily diet? i usually drink two or three cans of 12 ounce sodas on average/day. there are some days like today, that i have drunken two or three cans plus a whole two liter bottle of pepsi. if i look at the servings, it says theres 8 per two liter. so 8 times the 28 grams of suger per bottle equals 224 grams of sugar. i don’t normally do this however, and its mostly when im tired. also, after im tired, and i already had a 5 hour energy drink. so im afraid of having kidney stones when i get older. i know the permanent efffects of caffiene, such as enamel loss. i can tell this by looking at my teeth in the mirror, and noticing the transparent shadow. i know soda does lead to bone loss, since the acids in the soda rob your body of calcium. i do have a bowl of cereal and plenty of milk in the morning. so im getting my daily recommended servings of calcium, as well as any other vital nutrients and vitamins. i also brush my teeth soon after cups of soda, so my teeth don’t also rot out when i get old. am i thinking about this too much?
also, go to work at 2, 3 and 4 o’clock in the morning. as soon as i clock in, i drink a 5 hour energy drink. before i come to work however, im terribly exhausted. then add to several cans of soda after the energy drink at work to keep me going, plus whatever soda i drink at home. am i leading to a problem?

My 7 year old brother was just diagnosed with Osteoporosis. He has a kidney disease that makes his body produce to much calcium, but it doesn’t absorb any of it. They can’t put him on calcium because then his body makes kidney stones. Has anyone heard of this or know anything about it?
Edit: I know about Osteoporosis I want to know if anyone has heard of it in children and with Kidney problems?

I know that there are different types of kidney stones (calcium, uric acid, etc.) but if they are able to dissolved, can they be dissolved the same way or do you need different treatments for different stones?

I had a VERY serious kidney infection when i was 17. I was in the hospital for over two weeks and now my kidney is all scared up.

Then when I was pregnant with my first son I started getting kidney stones…they have had to go in and remove them twice.

Now after having another child (who is now almost 2) I have kidney stones for the 5th or 6th time. I have 2 stones in the right and 2 stones in the left and one that is passing that appears to be from the right kidney.

I do not drink a lot of pop or fast food. I hate milk and don’t drink much OJ. My dr. did say that she thinks they are calcium, but she has referred me to a urologist to help me furthur.

ALSO I found out I also have an ovarian cyst on my right ovary which as a little over 2 inches.

I know that doctors go to school to know all about these problems, but I’m wondering if anyone out there has PERSONALLY had a similar problem and ways to prevent this?

All I know is I am sick of being in pain, this time it has been almost a month and my doctor is so picky about writting pain medicine perscriptions that I’ve ended up in the ER 4 times already…and she had an issue with that…hello…in PAIN!

Anyone with similar problems please advise. Thanks!

My dad drank a lot of mineral water and then got a kidney stone…are the minerals building up in the kidneys, or is it something else? i thought it was just calcium, but is this also a cause?

My mother has had her gall bladder removed about a month ago, because of the reoccurring stones, and has also had kidney stones in the past. I finally got her to start taking those adult gummy vitamins (better than nothing, cause she hates taking vitamins, makes her sick) now I’m realizing there isn’t any calcium in her diet (nor is there calcium in the regular gummy vitamins), especially at her age (60’s). Can she go ahead and start taking these gummy calcium vitamins with her regular gummy vitamins everyday?

I no longer have insurance which is terrible timing. Please if you know anything about Celiac’s PLEASE read!!! Sorry this is so long but any resources or directions other than a simple "symptoms list" would be great!

I recently had a gallbladder attack and docs thought it was non-functioning and diseased, but it was tested and my gallbladder is actually OVER-active and the doctor saw no alarm for this other than stress (finishing my Master’s degree and car broke down in same week). However, this also occurs in people with Celiac’s, finding this out after doing my own research. I also have a huge tendency to form calcium kidney stones (2 surgeries and over 10 stones, I’m in my early 20s), and I also have KP, keratosis pilaris, which is a skin disorder thought to be caused by a vitamin A deficiency. I have been eating healthier and it has helped but only somewhat… I can’t hardly drink beer anymore, even 2 of them cause pain and I used to be able to drink quite a few! Sometimes after I eat I can feel my gallbladder twitching. My CBC blood tests were normal, liver function good, white blood cell count slightly high, slightly low bilirubin (whatever that is) but overall everything looked good.

Then why do I feel like crap!!?!? I feel as though I have a malabsorption problem, or could it be a simple food intolerance? Its hard for me to tell if I have a food intolerance because I feel really full after not eating much, and then feeling really hungry a few moments later… because of my gallbladder :( . Are there any "over the counter" or at home tests that can test for Celiac?

Add’l info: I eliminated most of my kidney stones by cutting down on fast food, soda, and meat. I have always drank a lot of milk, and was actually told to drink more but I’d get sick if I did!

I have been to 4 doctors all who raise their eyebrows, poke and prod, and then just tell me I’m "just stressed". I am already being treated for anxiety…

Due to a re-occurrence of kidney stones, my doctor has put me on a diet.
I will list what I am to avoid. You tell me what I could eat that wouldn’t go against my diet.
I can NOT have an excess of:
-red meat
-calcium
-chicken
-asparagus
-beets
-spinach
-cranberries
-brewed tea
-nuts
-chocolate/cocoa
-salt
-soft drinks
-vitamin C
-strawberries
-wheat bran

What is left that I CAN eat???

I have heartburn alot and Tums seems to cure it. I don’t see any warnings on the label, but someone said that you can get kidney stones from the calcium build up. Is that true?

My husband has had 2 CT scans in the past 3 months both of which show a 2mm kidney stone. He he’s been to the ER for the usual symptoms (lower back and flank pain, blood in urine, fever, chills) and the urologist we took him to a few days ago scoffs at him. His blood work was normal and the CT showed that there was nothing else going on. When we gave the urologist the CD of the CT scan he told us he didn’t see anything that would be bothering him and he’s acting like my husband is just trying to get pain meds (he never asked for them either, I asked them to give him something for the pain). When I told him that I saw the stone on the CT myself, he said, "well yes there’s a tiny stone but that wouldn’t be causing his symptoms". I’m so frustrated. My husband is not a big baby and what’s going on with him looks exactly like what people feel with stones. One of the ER docs said sometimes a stone can move then go back into the kidney over and over and I think that’s what is happening. But the urologist is acting like a 2mm isn’t big enough to bother him. I’d like to hear about other people’s experiences. What can I do for him? He has Lortabs for pain, which don’t seem to help much. Does the lemon juice/olive oil mixture really work? Don’t know what the stone is made of though, probably calcium or uric acid. He is Japanese and has a family history of stones and gout if that makes a difference. Is a 2mm stone really too small for him to feel? Please help.

I am trying to lose weight. I love diet soda and drink about 5-7 a day. I have heard a lot of the bad side effects of diet soda (reduced calcium, water retention, sugar stimulant, kidney stones). Much of the research on this stuff is tough to verify. ANYWAY, if I am going to try and cut diet soda out, what are some good substitutes besides water. Is Diet Iced Tea, Diet lemonade, Crystal Light, Propel, etc more healthy? How much more? Informed answers only please……

when I got the results for my abdominal ultrasound back, they said I had a kidney stone, except I DO drink plenty of water(around 15-20 glasses a day), I don’t eat a diet rich in calcium, or protein , because, for the most part , I’m vegetarian . And,I’m only 16 , so how is this possible?

I’m a kidney stone producing machine and just found out what triggers the deficiency on citric acids and overproduction of calcium in my body.
Urologist prescribed a high blood pressure drug called Hydrochlorothiazide (I have low blood pressure) to reduce the production of calcium and a citric acid supplement I’m really not sure as if I should take this. I have to inject myself with B12 on a monthly basis which I need because I can’t produce it anymore myself and found out that this reduces the citric level. Then I came across Hypothyroidism and wonder if that is the reason for the high calcium production? Does anyone have suggestions on how I should approach the treatment or know about natural ways to get this in control? I do a low oxalate diet and avoid foods triggering my symptoms.

Do you know any home remedies to get rid of them besides drinking lots of water. I have had three in the past year. The first one, an 8 mm stone, got me outpatient surgery (lithotripsy), and the second, a 5mm stone, sent me to the ER for half a day.
I think mine are the calcium type stones, but I don’t want to cut out too much calcium because of ostioperosis. I have heard that stones are hereditary and they run on my fathers side. Thanks to anyone who answers and is trying to help me!!!!
