PLEASE READ ALL OF THE FOLLOWING . IMPORTANT !! My guinea pig has been peeing blood and
her # 2 is diarrhea . She also has
been really quiet and isn’t eating or drinking except for some lettuce . We took her to the vet this
morning , they gave her an x-ray and what I thought was a urinary tract infection was a kidney stone
blocking her bladder. We have 3 options . A. Give her antibiotics and let the kidney stone stay there , letting my poor Rosie suffer . B. Do nothing (Not an option ! ) C. Give her surgery. Either way , my guinea pig may die . The anesthesia involved may kill her . She may never wake up . She may die of shock also . We cannot dissolve the kidney stone either .

Please pray for Rosie that she will survive . I am just a 13 year old . I don’t know what to do ! I’m really in need of some comforting words .Thank you .

We have a 9 year old Schnauzer, Pepper, who weighs around 10kg (22 lbs). She has been in good health with a good diet and exercise. We think. My family and I have owned many dogs in my life, but I have never had a Schnauzer.

A few months ago after a long walk we noticed a reddish color in her urine at the end of her walk. We were concerned so we took her to a vet, but they couldn’t figure out why. We both thought not enough water in her diet to flush her system. We didn’t see the problem again for a while. Two weeks ago, at the end of her walk, we noticed the reddish color in her urine again. Considering the late hour, we waited until the next morning to take her to the vet. The vet took an ultrasound and found something curious. Then took an X-ray and found that there were crystals in her urine and she has a stone in her bladder. Apparently the stone is rubbing the bladder at the end of her walk causing her to bleed.

So the vet suggested to change Pepper’s food to Royal Canine Urinary S/O to help with the crystals and to try to dissolve the stone. Makes sense. The vet also prescribed her a medicine to give to her twice a day that we thought was something to help dissolve the stone. In a few days she was incredibly thirsty and developed a potbelly. Her mood didn’t change so much other than she just seemed really full all the time, but she still did eat her breakfast and dinner. But the amount of water she was drinking and the potbelly were very concerning. There was also a more panting than usual on a cool Fall afternoon.

A week later at our scheduled check-up. The doctor did another ultrasound and found the stone hadn’t changed. We had him run a blood test to check for heart-worm and any thing else that could be an issue. We found out the the vet had prescribed her steroids to make her thirsty to help flush out the crystals and to try to dissolve the stone. (Note: In Korea, vets are not allowed to disclose the type or name of the medication given to animals in fear of possible future issues on prescribed medication.) So we don’t know and can’t find out what kind of steroid exactly she was given. We also found that the steroid had reacted in a way that gave her the symptoms of Cushing’s disease. Scary. The doctor told us, if she does have Cushing’s disease, then she may only have a few months to live. Devastating.

The vet decided to take her off the steroids and then prescribed another medication to help with her kidney damage from the steroids. What? Not understanding how this seemingly healthy dog with a little blood in her urine could have a few months to live, I started hounding the internet. Trying to find information about steroids, crystals, Schnauzers, holistic diets…everything. The day after the vet visit, Pepper was in good spirits. Happy, playing and interested in our movements. After her dinner, she was still acting the same, until around midnight she projectile vomited. A lot. Mostly water but still a mess. Then the same again this morning.

Our concern now is that the steroid treatment could have brought on symptoms and a possibility of Cushing’s disease, which I do understand is deadly. And a lot more common in Schnauzers. Or the steroids have made her so thirsty that she is over-hydrated. Steroid withdraws and over-hydration can cause vomiting. Right? Other than the excessive water drinking, which is slowing down, and her potbelly, she is acting normal. She is excited to see us when we come home. She was excited and playful when I took her out for a walk. She still does her job, barking, when she hears strange noises outside. Now she is napping and her breathing seems normal. No longer panting like a week ago.

The non-disclosing of the medication and the reasons for the treatment give me great concern. And also make me question the intentions of the vet. For years, I have taken my dogs to the VCA and other hospitals, the amount of information they give to you to monitor your pet on medication is fantastic. Here, if you call another vet they will not question another vets treatment in consideration of their fellow vets. The only paper you walk out with is the receipt from the cash register. Concerning and curious.

Personally I don’t agree with the vet on prescribing the steroid treatment to make her thirsty. Upon more negative findings about steroid use in dogs, if we had known or were allowed to know, I would have never given the steroids to my dog. It is hard to know what to do next. My idea is to monitor her water intake so she isn’t over-hydrating to try to reduce her potbelly. Feed her a little at a time so she doesn’t fill her stomach to much and then end up vomiting. And start her on a good holistic diet to try to break down the stone naturally along with the Royal Canine or Hill’s urinary food.

What are your thoughts on what has happened and what we should be doing?

The tricep on my right arm has felt sore during the past three weeks. – This pain has gotten so intense occasionally that I can barely turn my head, when this knot in my muscle creeps up my shoulder.
In aim to remedy this pain, I follow the advice of my Grandmother, who passed away at the age of 103 years in 2010. Oma advised to take Calcium tablets. When I take Calcium tabs, the pain instantly subsides!
Myself being one who thinks "what if?", I’m considering the Side-effects that this Rx can cause elsewhere in my body. %Am I risking possible troubles in my kidneys or bladder (gall stones) in my body by increasing my calcium intake (600 mg tabs)?
I am taking these once every 12-hours….. <-Should the repetition of dosage matter how / if any side-effects become a problem?
At a recent dental visit, I asked and am told my Dentist to take Glucosamine Condroitin tabs for my muscle-condition. What are the side-effects to taking Glucosamine Condroitin instead of Calcium tablets to remedy my muscle soreness in my arm?
Searching for A CAUSE to this pain, I want to blame my leaving my arm in a "non-moving" position at my terminal for hours at a time. – Getting up and walking around does not seem to totally remedy this muscle-soreness in my arm.

I have no General Practitioner to ask, which is why I’m asking this in here.
Thanks for known re’s.

I took my cat to a vet who is supposed to be really good because my cat was passing kidney stones and a crystal had passed through his bladder and was stuck in the urethra. The vet put a catheter through and had to flush out his whole system because my cat was in REALLY bad shape.]: So i got my cat back on the 23rd and have been giving him antibiotics the doctor gave me every 12 hours. Now my cat is going back to his painful lethargic state he was in BEFORE we ever took him in the first place! We payed OVER 1,300 dollars which we really don’t have right now (we don’t have animal insurance either). So we called to the vet again to tell them how he is in pain again and really lethargic etc. and they said theres really nothing they can do about it. I know for a fact that is BULL SHIT because this kind of thing happens to humans all the time. I have family in the medical fields nurses, surgical technologists etc and i know that when this happens to a human they don’t just let people die. I understand people are different but they take care of it and they don’t go back to the same conditions 3 days later. Most wouldn’t understand but my two cats are my favorite things in the whole world and i have the strongest love for them I couldn’t bare to let one go. Please I need some help on what to do and why his first treatment of being in the hospital for FOUR days didn’t work. Please help.
]]]]’:
Also they said he is NOT supposed to be lethargic really at all anymore. I have him on a special diet he needs to be on for at least 3 years. And is there nothing I can do since he was not treated properly? I cant pay another 1400 dollars but I will try payment plans. Why is it they say there is nothing they can do?
]’:
Also my kitty isn’t very old he only just turned 3 years old.

My boyfriend found out on Wednesday that he has a kidney stone that is 3.6mm wide. He still has pain in his side and his back. When the doctors did a cat scan on Wednesday, it showed that it was just about to drop down into his bladder. Should he go back to the doctor to see if it got stuck? Or is it normal to still feel this pain even after it dropped into is bladder?

I have had a 2.5mm kidney stone at the junction right before it goes to the bladder…according to a cat scan. Its not excruciating, just crampy, and terribly uncomfortable, not to mention confusing pain. My urologist is "surgery happy" i think, and when i ask if this or that is "normal" pain, all he says "if it hurts to much , I’ll take it out." well, that involves SURGERY, and i believe i have a good chance in passing this size. However, its been 3 weeks, and it makes me feel like I have a UTI also. I don’t. Been checked twice for infection. How much longer till this thing could pass? Is this amount of time common???
Thanks

I am a male, and I have to suffer every time I urinate. If I’m lucky it doesn’t last long(5 or 10mins). But I am not often lucky(45mins-1hr30mins). I have the Reiter’s symptom of urinary inflammation. It has been getting gradually worse for the past 5 years, going from occasional inflammation to what is now constant inflammation. I was scoped and it was seen (and I can feel) that it has spread from the urethra into the bladder lining. No kidney stones, never any STDs, no identifiable cause other than Reiter’s (properly diagnosed/only explanation so far). The pain is like being stabbed right up the urethra with a switchblade each time you use the restroom, and having the blade slowly withdrawn for the next hour or so. More recently, a tiny muscle or nerve I can’t identify down there frequently tremors and twitches. I cannot have sex/do the other thingy without incredible pain resulting. I live in fear of nocturnally emissing. I have Uristat (OTC pyridium) in my urine at ALL times and it doesn’t do much. Does any other male (or female) have the urinary side of Reiter’s this bad, and is there anything you’ve been able to find to treat it/manage the pain?
Am already seeing a urologist, and an arthritis specialist has me on immunosuppressive therapy (no results so far). Please keep in mind the phrasing of the question: "Does anyone ELSE have pain like this" (urinary or Reiter’s-related pain bineg included, but not limited to those). It’s pretty much a yes-or-no. If you do NOT have chronic pain, or don’t know anyone who does, or don’t know jack about urinary stuff or Reiter’s…then you have not answered the question. Well, unless you just put "no". I guess that would count, too.

I am a 30 year old male who experienced my first kidney stone 2 weeks ago. After surgery the Doc. placed a stint in me. 4 days ago I got the stint took out. I still burn when I pee and the pain goes all the way back up to my bladder. I still have some soreness in my kidneys and bladder area that get worse at night time. I was wanting to know if maybe I have a UTI or was this normal from having the stint taken out ? I have heard alot of men say that they burned for only a day or so and I am on my fourth day . I went to the doctor and they say I have blood in my pee and Bactria. Should I have blood in my pee from a UTI ?

I was diagnosed with two kidney stones, 9mm and 1mm. The doctor went in with a scope to remove the larger one which was embedded. A stent was placed to keep the tubes open. A week later they took the stent out and to see if there were any more stones and they finished by putting a larger stent in. Five days later I went back to the doctor and they numbed me and took out the stent. Two hours afterwards I was in extreme agony and couldn’t urinate. I called the doctor and he said I was probably having spasms of the urethra and the bladder. By the end of the day, I went up to the ER because of extreme pain. They gave me fluids and pain medicine though it didn’t help the pain. I stayed two nights in the hospital and I was feeling somewhat better and they sent me home. For two days I took things easy, the pain was minimal. On the third day in the morning I passed a large blood clot, which I literally had to pull out because it was stuck. And the severe pain returned. Now I am also vomitting. I called my doctor and he told me to drink plenty of fluids and your either going to get better or worse and that was it. What should I do, I’m even considering going to a differant and better hospital two hours away.

My mom has a kidney stone and it’s 5 mm. It right now is at the end of the bladder and is at the verge of coming out. The doctor says to drink lots of water and walk around. She’s been drinking lots of water and peeing often. But the pressure down below is unbearable without the pain pills because the kidney stone is blocking the urinary tract a bit. When she tries to pee, only a little pee comes out and there is little to no relief from the pain. Her belly is getting bigger from drinking so much water and not being able to pee all of it out. Is this supposed to happen? I think the kidney stone is gonna pass tonight.
The pressure’s not that bad, she has access to a bathroom now. It got really bad to the point where she started crying in the car cuz she had to go so badly and there was no restroom. The pressure was so bad then. But now, she’s taking pain pills and the pressure without the pill isn’t as bad as the car. I have a feeling its gonna pass tonight (I really hope so )

I know you go thru major pain and get all the symptoms.
I did the tests and there’s no infection in the kidneys/bladder but I have this dull pain right where the kidney’s located. The doc said it could be a kidney stone and told me it’ll go away cuz if it was big enough (which requires surgery) that I would’ve been in unbearable pain

Im asking it here cuz I’ll prolly get no answers in the other sections
batman- I went to the doc, she just said to do an ultrasound. I dun think there are any pills to get rid of kidney stones.

Last night I was at a hockey game with my family and I went to the bathroom and I had blood in my urine (not extreme but a light orange, visible hematuria). I thought it might be a kidney stone (I’ve had them 11 times) but it wasn’t. I flushed my system by pounding water until my urine ran clear and now today it is running clear or lightly yellow and I have had a continual sporadic pain in the top part of my bladder area (maybe 4 inches below my belly button)……. Could this be something serious or just a growing pain? I’m 16 and never have felt this before.

My kidney stone is near my bladder according to a CT scan, but my back (the area where my kidneys are) and underneath my left ribcage still hurt. Why is that? It’s severe pain too. Is it spasms?

Ok, so I played basketball for like 3 hrs in 95 degree heat on Saturday. Was pretty dehydrated after, but was okay and recovered. The next day I went to pee and the right side of my bladder had these sharp stabbing pains! It’s not up near the kidneys.. it’s below the belly button to the right close to the groin. It feels a somewhat better after I’m done, but still has a sharp lingering pain all the time. Then when I have to pee again (i guess as the bladder is full) the intense pain comes back! It hasn’t gotten any better and is now Wednesday. Went to the doctor today and they found no blood or infection in the urine. Gave me flexoril and said it’s probably a pulled muscle. By the way, I don’t have any history with kidney stones but my dad has had gout and uric acid stones sometimes. Anyway, the only diet changes lately have been drinking coffee and taking Pepcid. Thanks for you help!! :D

after 2 days of sporadic agony, i was diagnosed with kidney stones. i’ve gradually felt the pain moving, and getting lower, but today is my second day (up to now) with no episode of pain. i’m positive i haven’t passed the stone. has it moved to my bladder now? is that why i can’t feel any pain? if it is in my bladder, how long should it take to pass?
thanks!

My son is 16 yo and is having pain when he goes to the bathroom. He is also having some pain in his stomach(possibly bladder area) and he said his back hurt a while ago. He has an appointment on Friday and is taking some medication right now that turns his urine blue until then. I have had a history of stones myself and have had gout since I was 16 in my big toe. His father had a stone a few months ago .Could he possibly have a stone? He swears it’s not an STD…..I made sure I brought it up. I wasn’t 100% sure how hereditary kidney stones were. Or could it just be a urinary tract infection? And yes, he is already going to the Dr. to be 100% sure. I was just curious what others thought it could be.

I have been straining my urine for about 3 weeks now and have not found any stones. There were small pieces of bloody tissue…i assume from the stone moving. Is that normal and when should i pass this stone, Like i said it has moved what feels like as far as it can without coming out. the pain comes and goes throughout the day but it is just dull pain. When i try to pee i get a really sharp pain, it takes my breath away and makes me want to scream. I have tried everything. drinking lots of water but it doesn’t seem to be helping.
I woke up yesterday morning and the pain was so bad i could not walk. My boyfriend took me to the hospital and they did a CT scan. As far as they can tell I have a kidney stone lodged where my uiter enters my bladder. I have been advised to wait it out…I am going next week for a second opinion. I don’t see how the Doctors expect me to be able to work with this pain. They did give me pain medicine but as she was writing the prescription she said " this is going to get alot worse before it gets better" Ill keep you posted thanks for the help.

I have been having pain in my right kidney that feels just like a kidney stone (I’ve had several on the right side). It aches constantly and I get intense sharp pains that make me nauseated. It got so bad that I went to the ER 4 days ago where I was told that I have a stone stuck in the left ureter just before the entrance into the bladder but they didn’t see anything on the right side. I am pregnant so I could only have an ultrasound done which isn’t very accurate in viewing stones. My question is can the stone on my left side be causing all the pain I’m experiencing on the right side? The doctor seemed to think I was crazy.

I’ve had left flank pain for about a year. Between now and then, I’ve had: bladder, kidney, and UTI infections. Blood in urine, nausea/vomiting/diarrhea, feverish and chills, blocked ureter (had nephrostomy tube for 2 months) and kidney stones. My urologist and nephrologist don’t think it’s kidney related. But it seems like it is. What is it and what should I do? I have ct scans with pain when nothing shows up.

It was in the upper 1/3 rd of the right ureter. It was crushed under GA using urethrogenic laser lithotripsy. A stent had been placed between the rt kidney and the bladder. Even after 1 week, I feel urge for frequent urination and bladder does not empty completely it seems. Doctor said that was because of the stent. Can a qualified urologist give an advice on this condition please.

Its been over 12 hrs now and he still hasnt passed it and has only gone #1 once in the last 8 hrs.. Should we be worried its still in his bladder? They didnt say how big it was. He has been very nauseas all day…are there symptoms to look for if its stuck in his bladder? Thanks!
