She has either kidney or bladder stones. It hasnt passed with her new diet and she is going into surgery this week. Today she threw up in the morning and just now she peed blood. It wasn’t even pee with little drops of blood. It was completely red. Is this an emergency? Or should I just wait until her appointment this week? Is this normal for stones?

Basics about me: I’m in my early 20s. I’m relatively healthy, I currently have kidney stones I’m trying to pass (this is definitely not kidney stone pain!). I’m sexually active. I’ve been on Ocella birth control for 3yrs. I have no children, nor have I been pregnant.

Friday this pain started on my left side that just seemed like REALLY bad cramps. I pretty much just tried to ignore it as best as possible and go about my life. Tonight, uh yesterday at about 8 I started feeling the pain again. I went to the restroom and it felt better. Then it started feeling a lot worse about 2hrs later. So I took some ibuprofen, which knocked me into sleep. My fiance woke me up to take my regularly prescribed medication and to get out of my day clothes at 3am. And I’ve been awake since running to the bath room trying to urinate and having general stomach upset. The pain is in my pelvis region on the left side. I can feel it threw my back just above my buttocks and it reaches down my insides towards my vaginal and urinary canal openings and to my left leg at my groin at time times. I will more the likely try to make a doctors appointment Monday (definitely will if it continues), but I just need some relief from my pain so finding out what it could be would help me figure out a way to temporarily relieve my pain enough to sleep and go out tomorrow.

back in october, i passed my first kidney stone. a month later, i passed another. a week and a half ago, i developed a bladder infection and it has been off and on since then. i took some azo and an antibiotic i found for a sinus infection and a lot of the pain would subside and my urine wasn’t cloudy or smelled anymore. but then a few days later it come back. i noticed yesterday i still had pain when i was done peeing.
now i’m experiencing sharp pain below my bellybutton and in my lower back, but i’m not sure if my bladder infection has turned into a kidney infection or if i’m possibly passing another stone. i actually have a doctor’s appointment today at 10 AM for a physical, but what could be going on?

Well the signs I have had and do have are sometimes I can hardly walk or sit, hurts with pressure. Shoots pain up towards my naval. That plus the occasional buildup/blood excreated from my bowels. I am going to the bathroom way more often than I used too, probably 4+ times a day. Bowel Movements are not solid. I have slight gas, but nothing more than I usually do.

I have had a colonoscopy recently, and the only issues found were small hemroids (not in the area of the pain).

On a related note I have two kidney stones in my right kidney, but i have passed them before, and this pain is in a completely different area.

I had previously changed by diet to try and see if it was just the things I was eating. The pain is still there.

I have had this sort of discomfort/pain for about 2 months now. It didnt used to be this bad, but has gotten to this point within the last couple of days.

I have a doctors appointment in 4 days. Should I go to the emergency room before hand? I really dont know what to do.

My father had a history of kidney stones for the past ten years. He was gone through two procedures before to get these stones from his kidney out using the lithotripsy option, which was described to be very painful but it did not get rid of the problem. He has again diagnosed with another kidney stone and the doctors suggested lithotripsy again. We are very concern and we are seeking other alternatives other than this same procedures that have been conducted before. The stone is about 8mm, considered big. If you have any answers or suggestions as to ways or other alternatives other than the two procedures above that are safe and less painful, please let me know. We need answers as soon as possible before he has to go through surgery in the next couple of weeks and the doctors are calling to schedule an appointment for his surgery already. Thank you so much. I’m looking forward to hearing from you soon, and hopefully you have helpful answers and suggestions to my concerns.

I’m uninsured. :( And I’m suffering from multiple UTIs. I think I started having a kidney infection since I had mild on and off fevers, cloudy + bloody urine, lower left back pain. I drank a lot of water/cranberry before my doctor’s appointment since I was getting really paranoid. The doctor suspected a possible kidney stone?? I also had a urinalysis done and was prescribed to get an ultrasound which I figure is COSTLY. I took cipro for 3 days, symptoms went away but joints started aching, started having hives. Didn’t finish the 1 week course of cipro. Went to visit the doc to get a different antibiotic, but since the urinalysis grew no culture (probably cuz I drank a lot) she just prescribed me pyridium, which is sure no antibiotic and just pushed me to get an ultrasound again. She thought I might’ve passed the stone already. But.. the lower back pain is coming back again since I’m not on any antibiotic. It’s really frustrating. I really don’t want to get an ultrasound just to show I don’t have a kidney stone. I really don’t think I have a kidney stone when I have a history of UTI’s…

Last night I went to the emergency room because I was in horrible pain, they diagnosed me with gall stones and said I would need surgery. However the surgeon was busy last night saving someone’s life so I was told to call his office on Tuesday and make an appointment for the surgery. I was just wondering if any of you with experience what I should absolutely avoid eating in the mean time? I know that I’m not suppose to have fatty/greasy foods and such, but are there any other less obvious risky foods that I should avoid during the next few days? And what sort of foods would you recommend eating? Right now, I’ve got a bunch of fresh fruit and raw veggies, but I’m trying to find something that would actually be a meal, verses a snack.

Also, for those of you that have had your gall bladder removed, what was your recovery like? I just had a c-section and the recovery sucked.

Thanks so much for all your answers in advance.

Just this past February I was having incredible pains in my left lower back, so I went to the hospital. I had a cat scan and nothing appeared on it. The doctors took a urine sample and said there was a trace of blood in my urine. Then they told me (I’m guessing they assumed) it was a kidney stone. It has been four months and I still have these back pains where my right kidney is located. I have become used to this pain so I keep forgetting to make a doctors appointment. But just today I discovered I am peeing blood and it is very painful, almost like a UTI. I’m wondering if anyone thinks that it might be related to my kidney pains?

I had a ct scan because of pain and infection. I am on antibiotic and running fevers. My appointment with the uroligist is 5 days away. The stone is just sitting there and is large. Any input will be appreciated.

My dr. set me up with an appointment to talk about my options regarding how to treat a cyst and large kidney stone. They also want to biopsy the cyst. He didn’t discuss with me what the options are, does anyone have any ideas? Thanks I’m really scared.
I have Kaiser so I really doubt they would suggest surgery if they didn’t think I needed it. The Dr.s get paid a wage so it doesn’t benefit them to do surgery.

I’ve been showing symptoms for about two days now but normally my drs surgery is very busy and at times j have to wait like a week for an appointment? So how long does it take to progress into a kidney infection?

I am 47 years old. My periods have been lighter the past few months but they normally last 7 days. I started my period on February 14 and I am still on my period. It is not heavy bleeding at all. The only medication I am on is Triamtereene/HC TZ 37.85/25 CPBRR for high blood pressure which I have been on for a while. I called my gynegologist and they made me an appointment for March 20th. I called and spoke with the nurse yesterday because I was hoping to come in before the 20th and she said to tell the doctor when I come in on the 20th and he will probably run some blood tests. I bought some Uristat and took that last night just in case it has to do with my urinary tract. I have had 4 kidney stones in the past and each time I have different symptoms. I don’t know if this is a female problem or kidney, bladder problem. I am going on vacation the week of March 11th and I wish that I could find out what is wrong before my vacation.

I went to the ER with bad back pain and lower abdominal pain. They did a CT scan and found a couple of kidney stones and multiple cysts on both kidneys. The ER Doc and Radiologist both thought it was polycystic kidney disease, but I don’t have an appointment with the Urologist for another month and a half. Does anyone know of any guidelines I should follow in the meantime?

I am not able to get an appointment in for months. I dont have insurance or medicad so I go to the health dept. But they aren’t able to see my for months. My urinary tract infection began yesterday or at least that’s when I started to feel the symptoms. I only drink water already and I cut sweets out of my diet about three days ago. I need advice on how to get rid of the infection without antibiotics.

So I guess I have a urinary tract infection from what people have told me on here. :) Because I have a weird smell when I pee and it burns kind of.. but from what Ive heard that is not uncommon during pregnancy, I was wondering if it would hurt the baby if I don’t get it checked right away? My next appointment is April 12th, so about 4 weeks.
Would I be okay to wait until my next appointment or should I call and go get checked out sooner?
Thank you. :)

I already asked this question before, but I need more answers. I’m 24 years old and was diagnosed with a large kidney stone a week ago. A week ago they removed the stone through urethroscopy (sp?). The doctor put in a urethral stent which he said he will take out on Monday. The nurse who called me to make the appointment said that they don’t use any anesthesia or anything when they take the stent out, only some numbing gel. I was under general anesthesia while having the stint put in, and now I’m really worried about having it taken out without any anesthesia. I’m terrified that the pain is going to be horrible. I asked the nurse if they could give me anything to help calm me down before the procedure. She said they don’t do that and that I was worrying over nothing. The nurse said that the "discomfort" of having the stent out is less than having a pap smear done. I find this very hard to believe. I have some hydrocodone left from the procedure which I’m planning to take before the removal, but I’m afraid it’s not going to be enough. Has anyone ever had a stent taken out without any pain medication? How painful was it? How long did the pain last? I really need advice from someone who’s had this done before. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I have had Kidney stones for the last 5 almost 6 years. It all started when i was pregnant. I had a ct scan done in either late 07 or early 08 and was told i had "multiple calculi" in my right kidney. I recently had another ct scan done and was now told that i have 20+ stones in my right kidney. I have a copy of the report and also a copy of the disk. I have looked at it on my computer (i have a fairly decent knowledge of human anatomy), and my right kidney is much larger than my left. I have never had a stone in my left kidney, only my right. In the mornings when i wake up, even after i pee, my kidneys just throb with a dull achy pain. It eventually goes away. is this normal? Why would stones form in only one kidney and not another? i ponder these questions a lot lol. I have an appointment with a urologist, but it got rescheduled due to some bad weather we recently had. Any answers would be greatly appreciated!
Tramadol doesnt do crap for me. every time i pass a stone i’ve pretty much done it with no pain meds because nothing works for me. I’m a single mom and i don’t have time to pass stones!! lol. I’m wondering if a kidney infection could have caused damage to my kidney therefore causing me to form more stones etc? I have had several UTI’s / kidney infections. idk why but i am very susceptible to them.

bf is worried and jumping to the conclusion he has cancer but everything he tells me sounds like kidney stones and would like more information about what you went through and all that. and how long were you in pain before taking care of the problem. He says he has another appointment with his dr. in a week.

I’m worried about my mom. Last July her blood test showed her kidneys were normal but an ultrasound said her urine and kidney ultrasound were abnormal. She has to make an appointment to get the results.
She has arthritis and scoliosis so she thought her back pains were due to that but her symptoms are urinating a lot, back pain, headaches and sometimes being tired for no reason. No pain when urinating and the blood was only visible under microscope.

Are blood tests not accurate at detecting kidney diseases as the ultrasounds are?

Can kidney stones or PKD be missed by a blood test?

Okay for the last couple days I’ve been feeling really weird. The first thing I noticed was a difference in my pee. It has become really cloudy and has a terrible smell that it has never had before. I didn’t change my diet and I have been drinking a lot of water, so I know it can’t be because of that. The next thing was that I started having a really sharp pain in my lower back on the left side. It came and went, hurting a lot at some point in the day, and hardly at all during other parts so I just thought that it was back pains or something. But now not only does my back hurt but my lower abdomen does as well. It started out as a managible pain but every day it gets a little worse and now I don’t even want to move or walk around to much because it hurts. My stomach also has been making some funny sounds and when I push on the lower left part of my abdomen I can hear like a little swishy sort of noise.

I know that something is not right, and I’ve made a doctors appointment for tomorrow, but I’m just kind of curious to what the real reason might be. I’ve researched it and I think it’s probably either kidney stones or a kidney infection, because my symptoms match both of these. I was just wondering if any one has any idea to what it could be or if any one has any similar stories that they’d like to share with me
