monthly kidney infection?
I am 24yrs and during or around my monthly period I get a kidney infection. This has been the case for at least 6months. 4weeks ago i was admitted to hospital and was there for 3 days being treated for suspected kidney stones. Havent had CT scan yet although they did find an echo on my left kidney and i had all the symptoms of kidney infection, as well as testing positive for all kinds of bacteria in my urine..I havent passed any stones as yet.
I started my period again yesterday and woke up this morning with the start of another infection… have been to see my gp who is just contradicting what the hospital have said and didnt prescribe me with any antibiotics so looks like im going to be back in a&e tomorrow when it progresses! no one can explain why the infection kick starts on or around my period and i would just like some other suggestions??!!

It’s hard to say "why" it is happening but I can offer a few sites that I have found helpful. Also drinking cranberry juice helps with PREVENTING (not treating) those types of infections. Cranberry juice prevents the bacteria from clinging to the bladder walls. But you have to be constantly drinking it every day, and not the "juice cocktail" but the 100% juice. Have they ruled out a "Sepsis" infection? Or Interstitial Cystitis? Check out those sites I’ve attached I hope they help.

I am very sorry to say that I would need more information to be of help to you. If your infections occur in association with your menses this would exclude nephrolithiasis or ureterolithiasis – ’stones’ – as a cause. People are seldom hospitalized for so-called kidney infections as we have oral antibiotics that achieve the same blood and tissue concentrations as intravenous antibiotics. An intravenous urogram – which is the correct term for an IVP – is the test that is done when ’stones’ are suspected rather than a computed tomogram (CT) scan. You apparently had a sonogram of your kidneys does not seem to have suggested ’stones’ or related problems. You have had bacteria in your urine culture but you do not provide sufficient information. In fact multiple organisms found in a urine culture are more likely to be a contaminant than an infection. Your physician may have disagreed with what the hospital said as what the hospital said may be in error. If you will provide me with additional information I will try to offer a more thoughtful response: joinery’s@Jehu.EDI. I look forward to hearing from you. I wish you the very best of health and in all things may God bless.
