Calcium supplements may increase the risk of kidney stones, if the dose is too high (over 2,000mg/day). On the other hand, a large survey in men showed that those with the lowest dietary calcium had the most kidney stones. This is because the most common kind of kidney stone is caused by oxalate, and calcium inhibits the oxalate absorption from the intestines.

Calcium pills will increase your blood concentration of calcium. this will spill into your kidneys and can at times precipitate out into kidney stones. So, the pills will increase your chances of getting kidney stones, but not necessarily give them to you. When you take calcium pills and other mineral supplements, you should always drink a lot of water to decrease the temporary effect they have on your system.

My urologist said that calcium intake has very little effect on kidney stones.

check up with your doctor if there is really a necessity of taking those pills and regulate e dosage of then if needed, you need your piss to be analysed in a lab to check out the amount of calcium. Calcium is the principal trigger mineral for kidney stones… we recommend to people with history of kidneys stones in the family to reduce consuming food with high levels of Mg and Ca to prevent those problems.

It is not the calcium you eat and take but the fact that there is free calcium in your body. When it lacks other minerals, much of the calcium you take can not bind to your bones and becomes free calcium in your body which in turn is filtered out by the kidneys and bladder and eventually builds up. There is an important balance in these minerals. Please see this article below for a full explanation.
