Could I have a kidney stone?
About three weeks ago I had a very sharp and sudden pain in my back on the right side. It continued, infrequently for the next couple of days. I also began to experience symptoms of a bladder infection so I went to the doctor and told them all of my symptoms and they tested my urine and said I had a bladder infectoin and gave me Bactrim to take for 5 days. They said nothing about my kidneys. I finished my antibiotics yesterday and was feeling okay. Today I have been getting sharp pains in my back again, I have no fever, and no UTI symptoms, so I don’t think its an infection, could it be a stone? If so should I go to the ER or wait for a doctor’s appt?

kidney stones are usually sharp pains felt more towards the front of your stomach/near the sides but they can be felt from the back.. the pain results from the building pressure of urine that cannot pass as the stone is trapped within the narrow tubes leading from the kidney to the bladder. the pressure sometimes gives you nausea. – If it is kidney stones i’d go see a doctor in the morning unless the pain is unbearable.. that’s your call. Other than x-rays to confirm the blockage there really isn’t much they’ll do unless the stones are large in which case they’ll have to get a urologist involved to blast them with sonic waves… Small stones generally pass on their own but it can take several days… Your regular doctor can prescribe pain pills over the phone – you may also want to get something for nausea just in case.
It is important to stay hydrated. Drink plenty of fluids.. That can be a challenge as you may feel nausea and increased pain but that fluid will help push the stones through.

Drs. appointment is much cheaper! If you go to ER, there is nothing they can do for it other than tell you, yes you have one, here is the bill and prescription! so go to the dr. he’ll probably prescribe the pain reliever for the big hit of pain. Watch for ill feelings and blood. You would hate to have renal failure to.
