Hello, I have been having a TREMENDOUS pain on my left side for 3 weeks now. I do not have insurance so i tried to avoid going to the doctor and since I passed 2 kidney stones back in 98, I figured this one is kidney stones as well (similar pain and locations). I could not bare the pain anymore and headed to a cheap doctor who knew less than I do about kidney stones and simply prescribed me the medicine I recommended to him…What a joke. Anyway, thanks to the internet, i told the doctor to give me flomax and he did. My pain would go away during the day a few days before i started my medication and it would come back at night and early morning, VERY BAD. Ever since i started to take the flomax, I have no kidney stone pain or symptoms. What the heck? While it feels amazing, at the same time it scares me. What is it going on guys? Any ideas?

Doctor also gave me pain medication (oxycodone) and I took only one 3 days ago (the day i got it).

Do you think flomax relaxed my ureter and the stone is no longer pressuring and urine is passing through and that is why it is not hurting anymore? I definitely havent passed the stone..
I will go get ultrasound done sometime soon, but I am just curious what is going on. If any doctors on this site have any ideas and would like to share them. Flomax took the pain away.. hmm…
I am feeling 100% normal, I have no symptoms of anything. I was advised to take the medication for a couple weeks or three and then go get ultrasound to find out the size of the stone. I am assuming this is a stone because it feels like it did last time. What else could be? PLEASE do not tell me to go to doctor and leave at that. I am very well aware of it and I have and I will again if nothing changes.

A few months ago I had A kidney stone show up in an annual sonogram. The stone was not obstructing anything so I have not had any pain or symptoms. It was about 5 to 7 millimeters. I have only one kidney so my doctors wanted me to have the shock therapy which I did exactly two weeks ago with a stent. I have been straining and not seen any stone fragments passing. The stent was removed three days ago and I had an x-ray. The stone was split in three fragments.

How long should it take for this stone to finally pass?

If you have ever had a kidney stone, what are the starting symptoms?

Is the pain something that last for a few hours-a day, or is it longer than that?

The past two days I did not drink much water and the food I ate was very salty, and dry, and very little fiber/no fiber at all.

Bowel movements are normal but today when I woke up I had really sharp pains in my mid and lower abs. When I got up and tried to walk I had really sharp pains. The pain was also in my pelvic region and groin. I did have to go to the bathroom but trying to push out a bowel movement hurt (sphincter muscle) , and I was unable to pee until I drank more water. I also felt very nauseas I have been drinking more water and now when I pee there is some pain in the pelvic area I think. The pain is no where near as bad as it was, it has gone down a lot.

I’m not sure if this is possible kidney stone or just the result of the food I ate and lack of water.

With kidney stones is there pain when doing simple movements such as jog/running down the stairs, or anything like that?
I’m not male

For almost 3 weeks now, I’ve been having the symptoms of a really bad kidney infection. But testing my urine, nothing came up. I’ve been in and out of the doctors almost every day. There’s horrible pain in my lower back on both the right side, and left side. Just normally, they feel about the same, but when the doctors push on my kidneys, the right side is almost unbearable, and the left side is a bit more tolerable. They’ve tried using antibiotics, but only the very strong IV medication has helped, and only for two days. When I have to go to the bathroom, my pelvic area cramps up and I need to go right then. When actually going, I cramp up even worse. It’s take a few minutes to actually start going to the bathroom, so I sit there all cramped. My lower back pain hurts a lot worse in the morning, and feels a bit better as the days goes on. I’ve puked twice now, and I’m always either freezing cold, or boiling. I’ve gotten an ultra sound, but nothing showed up. There’s not blockage, no stones, nothing that looks alarming to the doctors. I’m bruising very easily, and cuts are healing very, very slowly. I don’t have the urge to eat, and I’m constantly tired, even after having a nice 10 hour nights sleep. At night when the pain in my back is keeping me awake, I get a very bad headache and my whole face feels really cold. Then when I put on a sweatshirt I get really hot and start to sweat. I have white blood cells in my urine, but no blood and no bacteria for a UTI. The doctors are coming up with nothing, and I refuse to take Vicodin anymore. Does anyone know what it could be? If I have something to suggest to the doctors, maybe they can go off that and go into more tests to try and figure out what’s going on. Thank you for any help.

About three years ago I got extremely sick out of no where. It felt like I was being stabbed directly in my stomach (not my gut), I was vomiting constantly for almost a week. I was hospitalized due to dehydration, and was given iv fluids. I couldn’t eat and was in the hospital for over a week. Along with this physical sickness it felt as if I was literally losing control of my mind. It is the worst thing i’ve ever experienced and I’ve had an extremely hard time explaining this to people. It felt physically like I was going to explode, and as if there was pressure on my skull. It seemed as if everything was spinning out of control every second of everyday, I was confused, couldn’t talk or organize my thoughts. I never thought it was possible for a human being to feel this kind of pain, both physically and mentally. These past three years have been the scariest years of my life, there were days that i just didn’t think I could make it another second. I was actually admitted to a psych ward, after the doctors here in southern ohio told me I had an anxiety disorder. While there it was discovered that I had a very large kidney stone, but it was removed and these symptoms still persisted. To be honest I listened to the advice of my doctors and took the psychiatric approach to feeling better. I was seeing a psychiatrist three times a week, and was on every single mental medication there is from lithium to respirodol to anti-anxiety medicine and so on. I was basically a zombie for two years. However, even my psychiatrist didn’t believe that what was happening to me was mental. To help you understand better, I will tell you that in the day before I got sick, the only thing that I had done differently was start to take a total body cleanser from GNC along with a multi vitamin. I’ve had anxiety in the past, and this wasn’t anxiety. It was as if I was being poisoned, and my mind and body were rejecting it. Also, while in the hospital they took out my gall bladder citing that I had bilary diskonesia. It seems that everyday is still a task for me both physically and mentally. I feel as if it is harder for me to pay attention, learn, keep my cool, and not be sick now, and my body constantly aches. I still have these horrible hunger pain type feelings in my stomach, and when they get bad I feel as if I am going to pass out and I start shaking all over. I’ve had bouts where my blood pressure has fallen during these times….however there have been times where my blood pressure has been extremely high. I was on medicine for a while due to my heart racing. When this all first started I lost 30 lbs, although after all of the psych medicine i’ve been on i’ve gained that back and more. I know that this is alot to take in and I want to stress that this came completely out of no where. One day I was fine the next day I was like this. I need an answer because all though i’ve started to learn how to live around this, it still is by no means living and is hard everyday. I’m scared, and I need some answers. (I’ve seen several doctors, one even diagnosed me initially with MS but later said nothing showed on my MRI) Thanks for reading, and thanks ahead of time for any help you can give me.

We’ve taken a charity case dog, who at the time was about 12 weeks old. She is now 16 weeks (or 4 months old) and we have not noticed any betterment in the potty training process. She is crate trained at night and while we are gone (as ALL my dogs are). She is let out when all the other dogs are, which can vary in time lengths, whenever they ask to go out, usually several times a day.

In the morning, I let the dogs out of kennels, and send them immediately outside, and they are always let out right before bed, however, I have noticed that Jett (this is her name) urinates in my house on average every 15-30 minutes (not an exaggeration). They are not small piddle puddles, which I would assume are indicative of a UTI, but what I would consider fuller bladder puddles. She is not small, she is a Labrador Retriever, so I would expect her to be able to hold her bladder for at least 2 hours, but she does not. I believe she is just unwilling to.

When she urinates (and sometimes deficates in my house), I discipline, and send outside, where she proceeds to bark her head off until we let her back in. She never leaves the back porch! Within 5 minutes of letting her back in, she is urinating in my house again.

When she DOES go potty outside, I squeal and call her a good girl for going potty outside, and make a big fuss (I’m sure the neighbors think I’m loopy) but even so, she will come inside and pee within a few minutes again.

Read up a bit on Cushings in dogs, stones, bladder/kidney infections, ectopic ureters, and other bladder problems in dogs, and she does not display submissive/excitement urination, she does not struggle to urinate (such as with stones) and her urine is clear, not cloudy or bloody, or small piddles(such as with bladder infections/UTIs) nor does she have the symptoms for Cushings, or ectopic ureters (no leaking or dribbling).

Beginning to anger me, really need some advice on different methods perhaps?

(Second time posting this, as it did not show up the first time!)

Well i was admitted in Children’s hospital for 9 days for
kidney problems ( Possible infection/stone ) I was given
a I.V. Antibiotic every 12 hours, As well as other I.V. medications
for other problems and pain. I was released two days ago,
at my 7th day at the hospital i began to start a fever – 99.8
8th day 99.6 – 9th day 99.8. they still however, released me.
Well now i’m still having a fever (goes up to 101.8) headache, swollen
glands in my neck mostly on the right side **I have had the gland on the right side
surgically drained due to cat scratch fever disease a few years back.** My sinuses are fine-not stuffed up. My throat hurts – hurts like hell when i swallow.
i noticed tonight there are these little lines up and down in the back of my throat. ( i do not have my tonsils. ) Also i have a bad cough (loud barking sound, last for a few minutes, i gasp for air during the coughing fits.) i cough up Brown/Rusty colored stuff (in big amounts) i have no wheezing. Vomiting (ive threw up 4 times today.) My parents are now starting to get my symptoms.
What is this? I was on antibiotics while in the hospital but is there
still a chance i caught something from being around other sick children?
P.S. THE DOCTORS SAID MY KIDNEYS ARE FINE NOW AND
THERE WAS NO INFECTION WHEN I LEFT – AND THEY SAID
THEY DIDNT SEEM TO CATCH ANY STONES BUT THEY STILL
PUT ON MY RECORD POSSIBLE STONE THAN A INFECTION

I am a male, and I have to suffer every time I urinate. If I’m lucky it doesn’t last long(5 or 10mins). But I am not often lucky(45mins-1hr30mins). I have the Reiter’s symptom of urinary inflammation. It has been getting gradually worse for the past 5 years, going from occasional inflammation to what is now constant inflammation. I was scoped and it was seen (and I can feel) that it has spread from the urethra into the bladder lining. No kidney stones, never any STDs, no identifiable cause other than Reiter’s (properly diagnosed/only explanation so far). The pain is like being stabbed right up the urethra with a switchblade each time you use the restroom, and having the blade slowly withdrawn for the next hour or so. More recently, a tiny muscle or nerve I can’t identify down there frequently tremors and twitches. I cannot have sex/do the other thingy without incredible pain resulting. I live in fear of nocturnally emissing. I have Uristat (OTC pyridium) in my urine at ALL times and it doesn’t do much. Does any other male (or female) have the urinary side of Reiter’s this bad, and is there anything you’ve been able to find to treat it/manage the pain?
Am already seeing a urologist, and an arthritis specialist has me on immunosuppressive therapy (no results so far). Please keep in mind the phrasing of the question: "Does anyone ELSE have pain like this" (urinary or Reiter’s-related pain bineg included, but not limited to those). It’s pretty much a yes-or-no. If you do NOT have chronic pain, or don’t know anyone who does, or don’t know jack about urinary stuff or Reiter’s…then you have not answered the question. Well, unless you just put "no". I guess that would count, too.

I’m a 52 year old man in what most would think is in very good physical condition. Six months ago I started passing visible blood in my urine. After seeing several doctors the best answer I could get from them was that I was having kidney stones. The urine went from tea colored to the color of cranberry juice. There was never any pain. I’ve had stones in the past and as anyone who has had them before can tell you, the pain they cause is the worst they’ve ever felt.

I discovered that the bleeding was brought on by the use of Advil. I would go weeks with no problems, then take Advil for an unrelated issue. Within three hours I began to see the blood again.
Needless to say, I quit taking Advil, Aspirin or Alieve as the are all NSAIDS and cause bleeding.

Since then, I’ve only had one incidence of visible blood. However, Now I’m experiencing another symptom that has me scared and baffled. I work construction for a living. In the past few weeks my stamina has fallen way off. I become extremely fatigued after only a few hours on the job. After going home my body seems to become one giant nerve to emit pain. I can only compare to the body aches that one feels during the onset of a bad case of the flu. No fever or chills. No joint pain. Just muscle aches. While the urine appears to be of normal color, I wonder if there is something connected here.

Since the doctors have been useless, I am hoping someone here can help give me some answers.

No doctors can figure out what is wrong with him. He is a 69 year old male with a history of diet controlled diabetes and a history of high blood pressure for which he takes medications which control it well. He had a triple bipass surgery about 5 years as well as a stroke a year and a half ago. He recovered well from both the bipass and the mini stroke and has no residual stroke problems. About 20 years ago he had kidney stones which were removed but has had no problems with that since. Well, over the past year, he has had almost like a shuffling gait where he seems to be walking on just the front part of his feet. I notice this mostly right when he gets up. Today it was worse then ever after sitting for 3 hours at his grand-daughters softball games. He got up and said he felt dizzy and when I asked him why he was walking without putting his heal down, he said his legs felt very rubbery. He almost fell sevearl times. This has been going on for a year now and no doctors can figure out what is wrong-he has been to 2 different neurologists, cardiologists, urologists, orthopaedic-all at 2 different huge health systems–he has had xrays, multiple MRI’s including his entire back, an EMG, an EEG.. He is even going to a doctor now who was recommended to him as a doctor who people go to when no other doctor can find anything wrong-he often can. Well, he is stumped as well. All labwork comes back good, everything comes back negative. In my opinion, the problem seems worse after he sits for a while-almost like a myotonia-like the muscles are having trouble relaxing or something after getting up-his gait is shuffled but he only walks on his toes when that happens and he is extremely unsteady. He is getting upset, frustrated, and scared that no one can figure out what is wrong. Do any medical people have any other ideas or suggestions as far as what they can rule out? It seems like they have tested him for everything… I am an RN and I am completely stumped and frustrated as well… I don’t notice any other symptoms except for he has been having some SOB, especially when his walking his worse. He is not sick, no fever, vs all within normal range, memory and thought process is normal. His upper extremity function seems normal-he has no trouble holding anything. He says he doesn’t feel like he has any problems when he is sitting. No trouble speaking-he is kind of hard of hearing but that is very normal for him. Everyone is stumped. Oh and yes they looked at his medications and even took him off some to see if that would alleviate symptoms and it didn’t. He also eats relatively healthy and tries to stick to as low sodium as possible.

I was on the yasmin for 1yr. with very heavy bleeding and bad migraines. but then the doctor changed it to yaz because my ins. didn’t cover yasmin anymore. So the migraines continued and so did the bleeding, but 2yrs. ago I stopped the pill for 1 week and got pregnant. after I found out I was pregnant they found out that I had a large fibroid in my uterus which cause me a lot of trouble in my pregnancy. Also I had stones and a infection in my kidneys , that almost caused me to miscarriagee my baby at 5 months. after I had the baby I kept taking the pills and 1yr. later I have not 1 but 2 fibroids, and lots of stress and anxiety. I just stopped taking these pills 5 months ago because the doctors said that the tumors keep getting bigger because of the hormones in the pill. Has anyone had something similiar happen to them. I still don’t know if the pill is to blame!

My mom is 50 years old, 5′6", and weighs about 156 lbs. She recently underwent an angioplasty procedure after she learned she had 99% blockage in one of her arteries in her heart. And she had a blood clot in her heart. Plus, she had multiple mini heart attacks that never damaged her heart muscle.

Plus, she has had a history of kidney stones and an enlarged, fatty liver. But she is now complaining of a particular symptom that is bothering her. She has had it for a while and it feels like a "bunching feeling" in her stomach (it seems) and to the left side (opposite side of the liver). She’s not sure what it is, any answers?

I’m 16 and I have severe pain in my lower back/sides of back and I used the symptom checker on Web MD and it suggested that I may have kidney stones. I recently had a UTI (Urinary Tract Infection) and I got antibiotics, but I’ve read that if you don’t get a UTI treated quickly enough, you could get a kidney infection or kidney stones. Could someone explain to me what this could possibly be?

Also, when you have kidney stones, do you get the back pain first or do the actual stones come out first?
I’m also feeling nauseous and have a stomach ache.

Almost every time I have an empty stomach, it feel like I get this stabbing pain throughout my whole abdomen area. Usually when I eat it goes away shortly after, but right now it isn’t. When it happens, I don’t want to stand up completely straight because it makes me uncomfortable, so I usually am bending over a little, which makes me look like an idiot. My sister was messing with me and said I probably have kidney stones, and I got freaked and went on WebMd.com and used the symptom checker. Once I checked the box about "stabbing pain" a box popped up that I should seek medical attention. Any idea what it could possibly be?

By the way, I am 13 going on 14 this month…. so yeahh…
30 minutes later and it still hurts

- I have been straining to pee since Friday 6/20 – it’s now Wed. 6/25. It takes me much longer than usual to get started, and it often seems that I have not gone as much as I could have or as much as I usually do.
- I was diagnosed with two "very small" kidney stones in May; the dr. will not check on them again until November.
- I have had three diagnosed UTIs since January. Each time I had some issues with straining, but not this bad. The predominant symptom with the UTIs was severe back pain (which was in the kidney that I later discovered had the stones).
- In the past week, I have had little or no back pain, which makes me think it’s *not* a UTI.
- I am a 19-year-old female who is not sexually active.

Any ideas? Anyone had this happen to them? Do you think the stones are causing a blockage? Would my back hurt if that happened? I am tired of going to the doctor and I don’t want to go in if I can keep from it… I’ve already been to the doctor five times in six months. :( Thanks!
Since Sunday, I have been drinking a considerable amount of water, cranberry juice, and lemonade.

I have had the following symptoms for a few months off and on. The earache and throat pain is back after being gone for about 3 months.

Heartburn every day – even before I eat, and almost always after dinner.
Thick saliva in the back of my throat.
Earache and a little throat pain on right side. But throat doesn’t hurt when I eat or drink.
Earache on the left side sometimes.
Pain under ribcage.

These symptoms are making me miserable… and google brings up cancer no matter what symptoms you search. In the past 4 months I’ve had an abdominal/pelvic CT scan, annual exam, annual blood work, thyroid test, and then a blood test to check for tumors when I told my doctor I thought they had missed something. All was normal…. they found two kidney stones – the pain is why I was having all of the tests.

What does this sound like to you?

ok first lets rule out what I dont have since I’ve been to several doctors and been tested, DON’T have diabetes, UTI, no kidney/gallbladder stones, no abmoral kidney scans, not pregnant, don’t use drugs/smoke/alcohol.

heres what my symptoms are:

pee at night about three times a night its so frustrating wakes me up at night,
pee during the day more than your usual person I wanna say twice every hour sometimes even more and its really annoying.
my stress level is moderate
dry mouth
always thirsty due to dry mouth
no pain when I pee just my upper right side feels pressure when I have to pee and goes away when I pee, not painful just annoying.

I thought it could be overactive bladder but wouldn’t that mean that I would have to have a bladder infection, someone help any suggestions would help since i’ve been to several doctors and nothing they say that im normal.

One doctor did tell me that I had IBS, and have always had problems with this but never the bladder issue until recently for about two months

I’ve noticed that my almost 8-year-old male cat has been producing a large amount of tears lately, so much so that it appears he has been crying. He’s had some health problems in the past (kidney stones, pancreatitis) so I am quite worried this may be a symptom of something larger once again. I have been reading that cats may acquire allergies and tearing may be a symptom of that; however, I see no other allergic reactions accompanying the tears. Am I worrying for nothing or should I seek veterinary care immediately?
It’s just the right eye, it seems. Also, he is a heat addict. We have several electric heaters around the house he loves to sit in front of all the time. If dry air may be a possibility, he’s definitely around dry air all the time.
