Any chance kidney stone pain can cause you to sleep a lot ? Obviously the pain would keep you awake, but can?
it cause you to sleep a lot too ?
Its actually my Mom who is suffering right now. She thinks she passed a stone at work yesterday, and she pretty much did a 180 and was wide awake for half of today when she has been sleeping a lot. I should have mentioned that she is an insulin diabetic and her sugar has been running really high most of this past week, like 500 high and now she has it stable at 250 give or take.
Well the last time she had a kidney stone "attack" her sugar was out of control. But never this bad. She does not have a doctor (No health Ins.) but she said she will be going to the E.R. tonight and hopefully they can help her.
My mother was just admited to the hospital with sever kidney infection. They have her on pain killers and I am assuming a strong antibiotic. They said that they should be able to clear out the infection, but if it doesn’t clear out she might have to dialysis. I tried to get her to go Friday night to the hospital but she kept holding it off because of no insurance, but I hope it is not too late for her.

My concern is her blood sugar levels! They are quite high for an insulin dependant diabetic.
The range for a random level is 70-125 mg/dL (3.9-6.9mmol). Her sleepiness could be related to this.
Do an accucheck now-if it is around 250 she needs to go to her doctor and have her insulin re-evaluated. If it is higher than 250 and she is still sleepy she needs to go to the ER now! The pain she was having may be kidney related but not from a kidney stone! Please post back and let me know how she is doing. I’ll check back.
I understand about not having health insurance. I am glad she is going in. Her high blood sugar level could have a more lasting and dangerous affect on her and her body.
We see many people in the ER who don’t have insurance. As a nurse I don’t deal with that-but I did have a patient who mentioned she set up a payment plan with the hospital and pays twenty dollars a month towards her bills. As long as she pays that the hospital billing departement doesn’t bother her. Is that possible for your mom? Hope she feels better soon. You are a good daughter for checking up on her!

Any pain can make you sleep when it’s been around long enough. Are you sure it’s a kidney stone? There are many back pains that happen because of pinched muscles in the back which can be very painful and I’m wondering if you might have them instead? You can release the muscles in your back to get rid of the pain if that might be the problem. Here’s how to release them:
Back:
(do from a sitting position)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder and find the muscles next to your spine and firmly press on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.
